This game is awesome. Just stunning. But I have two questions.

1: Are the guns randomly generated? They seem to be. Whenever I pick up a gun it seems to look and act differently from the last.

2: Can you customize guns, add attatchments, etc? I've heard people talking about the game and it seems like you can.
1: Yep, that's like the entire gimmick with Borderlands. You can even get two guns which generated the same name but slightly different appearance and stats.

2: No, you can't modify the guns. You have to hope for a good one to randomly drop.

Anyway, thanks. That's all I needed to know.

I think guns work in a similar fashion to how they did in the first Borderlands. In BL1 each gun had 5 or so different 'parts' to them (receiver, grip, magazine, accessory, etc.) and each 'part' had several variations (An assault rifle magazine could hold lots of ammo for instance, or a different magazine could hold less ammo and fire smei-auto but do lots of damage). When combined in different ways, this would make even two guns that are the same except for their magazines rather different. Combined with the bonuses and negatives from the manufacturer it made even 'identical' guns from different companies perform differently. The thing is, the guns all used the same parts, but they just slapped a different texture on them if they were a higher grade or made by a certain company.

Borderlands 2 expands on this aspect so much more, each manufacturer has their own special attributes (Jakobs guns fire as quickly as you pull the trigger, while a Hyperion gun will be very inaccurate, but get more accurate as you sustain fire). I'm fairly sure it still has the whole 'barrel, receiver, grip' aspect in place but now each gun part seems to be tied to the manufacturer instead of just a general parts list. I haven't gotten to look at any of the gun building aspect in BL2 though so I could be wrong.

But no, you cannot build guns in BL2, I'm just saying in BL1 there was a cheat program that allowed you to cheat guns and items into your inventory, and you could swap the parts they had.

EDIT: Bl1 also had different 'parts' for things like shields and grenade mods, but BL2 expands on that sooooo much more. BL2 is just better in every single aspect.

Minus the fact that I got bored with it within the first few hours of playing it?
Compared to the first one where I played until I beat both playthroughs and had all orange gear.

I dunno, I might have just gotten bored with shooters over the like, 5 years between the two games, but still.

The total lack of ammo and the fact all the guns suck. Fire guns? Suck. Chaingun? 10 rounds in it.

Lack of ammo? I don't remember running out of ammo much... but then again I got the ammo upgrades and I usually just used a Jakobs revolver and headshot everything rapid fire. I typically used the more 'mundane' guns actually and didn't have too much trouble.

EDIT: It helps to keep one type of every gun in your inventory in case you do run out of ammo for some reason.

Here's as good a place to ask as any.

Is the multiplayer still locally hosted games like in BL1?

As far as I'm aware, yes. I don't think a server browser or dedicated server would work too well since the game's progress is kinda linked to your character...

Worked for Open battle.net in the old Diablo games. Thanks for the info just the same. I definitely won't be buying 2 then.

If you're running out of ammo, play a gunzerker - in gunzerking mode, you regenerate ammo and health.

That said, I rarely run out of ammo on my assassin, and when you die and respawn, it gives you more ammo.

Minus the fact that I'm the exact opposite. BL1 was a boring MMO-without-the-people designed game that felt really shallow and woefully misused the random gun mechanics to the point of tedium.

Yep. I play as the assassin, and I usually don't run out of ammo with my sniper rifles. When I do, I switch to my Maliwan slag pistol to weaken enemies and slag them before finishing them with a decepti0n. It works pretty well, but the point is I don't find ammo a problem.

Myeh. I haven't played the first game, but I think this one is amazing. The amount of loot and missions alone is enough to keep me playing.

I've only ever played BL1 while co-op with friends, well that really was the only time I played it.  Seems to be the case for BL2 also.  Not a bad thing, its just BL can end up being a pop many bullets into some guy before he dies thing.

Enemy respawn is also fairly high in BL2...  Less grindy when you have friends I suppose.
