So every facility you put materials towards ups the power requirements to start construction on anything.

Yes, putting material in counts as having started construction, so the power requirements are deducted. So putting materials in to everything can indirectly stop construction.

Related,  note that once you start contributing materials to a storage room, you can no longer access it. For example, if you upgrade storage to level 1, put stuff into storage, then somebody contributes a wrench or something to start the next level...you will no longer be able to get to your stuff in storage. Which is both stupid and inconvenient. Fortunately, however, the storage window is shared by all storage facilities, so if you can't access food storage, but you can still access the armory, you can click the armory to get to your stored food.

Good to know. Yeah, I went and bought all the low level mats we needed and started construction on _every_ room without knowing that so we're stuck having to upgrade the generator before we can even access the storage facilities in the safehouse.

Not really. Tech increases your construction speed, and both tech and smarts are occasionally used as skillcheck rolls for some quests, but they're probably not useful enough to justify training them much. I advise putting all levelup points into constitution, training strength a whole lot to increase your carrying capacity, then either training marksmanship or close combat to suit your style. Overall the game favors ranged combat, and if you go ranged you probably won't need to train marksmanship much. Even with 25-30 points you';ll probably still routinely have 70-95% hit rates. So how heavy is the pay-to-win factor in this game?

It doesn't really matter. All the "better stuff" is paid, but there just isn't any late game content at all, so there's not much reason to bother paying for better gear. Those zombies you fought in your first 5 minutes of playing? They're the same zombies you'll be fighting after a couple weeks of playing. There are no bosses, or anything.

Personally, my character is running around half naked wearing bunny ears, and it just doesn't matter.

Edit: Also, are zombie encounters shared between all players? There's a disturbingly large amount of zombies surrounding our safehouse.

Damn, generator screwed us over.

Clan leader here, I've been logging in occasionally to let people into the clan, looks like we're doing some good progress. I should probably set up base #2 soon in a strategic location. Higher level folks, tell me, any suggestions? The original clan I joined had a good 8 bases at each of the cardinal directions so there was always somewhere to hide if you were out questing. That'd probably be wise for us to do as well, but how far out? I made the first base next to the hardware store to make getting materials easy for our first base, for the next base we won't be so lucky.

Also, I found a random event that gave me coords to a gun shop, totally going to go find it and see if I can buy some epic gun.

Eh, what do we need to get it, aside from time?

Yeah, so you need 1 level in generator for every 3 facilities you have unlocked. You can't "Start Construction" on any room upgrades until you have enough generator power. The thing is, the game counts the rooms as drawing power as soon as you put _any_ materials towards the upgrade. So we've got like every room unlocked and drawing power (13 rooms) so we can't actually start construction on any of them until we get the generator up to L5.

It's about 6 hours to go for the L4 generator. I won't be up when it finishes but will check on it in the morning. We'll need some more mats for the L5 but hopefully it's stuff we can easily buy from the supply or hardware store.

EDIT: I reported it as a bug/suggestion to the devs because it doesn't seem expected. Rooms shouldn't draw power until you actually have at least a level completed in them and you should be able to access them while they upgrade. Otherwise, you run into this situation where everyone is locked out of their stored items until we complete 3 or 4 room upgrades. :(

I'd need to look at the map of the game. Isn't there multiple maps though? I'd vote for less safehouses fairly spread out. We really shouldn't be have any closer than ~10 or so blocks from one of the NPC safehouses (college, hospital, stadium, etc).

EDIT: Ok, I looked at the map here: http://blog.zombiepandemic.com/Wiki/tabid/71/page/Map/Default.aspx and our safehouse is towards the bottom center. So maybe we need one NW and another one NE.

Are we talking about a small outpost or something larger? Barricades are fairly simple to set up once we have the nails. Boatmurdered is fairly well supplied for now.

Well, definitely a smaller outpost because we won't need any of the training rooms.

I would recommend the 2nd place to be near the Autumn leaves outpost as it has a good amount for stuff for missions and supply's but also the surrounding area has good loot.

Edit:Also to note that i been crafting some great gear and i look really good right now

Huh, found this on Kongregate earlier also...  Can't say this game will be great in the long run, thanks to premium only weapons.  If and when they do open up PvP... 
Anyways, made it to level 10-ish and already lost interest. 
There is a melee weapon that you can 'burst' with...  It really is epic for melee fights, compared to just about every other melee option.  It looks like a handle for a gun, totally forgot the name of it... and it sells for +100 at the store.  If you find it, don't sell, it'll probably be your best melee weapon for a long while.  (Though, it might have been a bugged out weapon and already patched up.)

Is there any difference between the Kongregate and Browser versions?

Don't bother fighting zombies, at the beginning it's generally a waste of SP/Money and you're better off questing.

A million times this.  You're actually supposed to avoid combat as much as possible.  Unlike most games, this one actually rewards you just as equally XP-wise for exploring and combat.  Also, if you have combat in an area, you're blocked from scavenging it unless you kill everything.  If I see a skull on an arrow, I literally go around it until I find a path that is clear.  Once you've explored enough, you can fast travel to those locations in the future, helping you *really* avoid combat.

I made it to level 10, killing the tutorial zombie and two rats.
Also, I know I'm a little late but I'd like to point out that this isn't strictly true.
You get 5 exp for running away and 1 for exploring a new grid square; compared to around 150 exp for killing a group of zombies. It doesn't really reward avoiding combat so much as you seem to think.

I crafted myself the nunchuks with nails driven through them.  Easy to craft, decent damage, lightweight, and a range of 1.
