Do we currently have storage at boatmurdered? Because, I've got some stuff to keep.
It's being upgraded. So you can't access it.

Yeah, sorry about that. :( I didn't realize that you can't use the room while it's being upgraded (or really, just gathering mats to _start_ construction on it).
No need to be sorry, it's a big design oversight in the game. Not sure about anyone else, but I put in a bug report for that.

Well, I just ran out and got the arc welder so we have everything to complete the upgrade of the storage room once the generator upgrade is completed (in an hour).

Just joined, and sent a request a little while ago. So far I've managed to gather a small handful of food items and a surprising amount of bricks, books, and pipes :\ Pretty much thats all I seem to be scavenging ...

When scavenging, I generally avoid things like debris piles and burnt rubbish. From what I've seen, dead bodies, ambulances, and military vehicles tend to have the best things. Oh, and trucks, particularly ones which have the words "Kaboom" on them; since they tend to have things like energy bars/drinks.

Heh, I kinda love how like 80% of the craftable weapons are from Dead Rising.

I was wondering if anyone else plays this fun game.

..oh. Hey, guys. I'll read through the thread, but yeah...I'm the clan leader of Playboy Bunny Babes, currently ranked #10 out of all clans for total player levels. We're on kongregate though, and it appears to be a different server than on the website. I don't see the bay12 clan on the list.

Anyway, we have some level 40+ members, seven safehouses spread out from downtown to uptown, and one that's completely upgraded.

If anyone has any questions I can probably answer them. That said, the game is very raw, and plays more like a game in alpha than beta testing. The game is woefully unfinished, a lot of things don't work, zombies can't attack barricades, sometimes fatal bugs happen than keep players out of the game for days, and honestly...there's not much to do yet except fetch quests.

Yeah, rubble and brick piles really aren't that useful in the long run.  1 steel pipe + 8 7.62mm rounds = 1 pipe bomb though.  Then again, one of the shops sells steel pipes, so it's not worth the effort really scav'ing for them.

Also, hang onto those caff pills and energy drinks until you can craft.  They combine into an even better energy drink, "Energizer."

Some other neat recipes:
watch + dynamite = bomb with timer
5 empty bottles + gasoline can + t-shirt = 5 molotov cocktails
5 whiskey + gasoline can + t-shirt = 5 whiskey molotov cocktails
whiskey + chocolate + canned food = supermeal
bread + dog food = sloppy jacks
t-shirt + booze/whiskey = bandage
scalpel + scissors + syringe = first aid kit

Leather straps and sleeping mats are common to just about every armor recipe, so hang onto those.  The same thing with duct tape and weapons.  And yes, it's hilarious that half the melee weapon recipes are blatently copied from Dead Rising 2.

How do the safehouse training rooms work? Do they just let you increase the max level (like the trainers you can find in other places on the map)? If so, then you don't really need the training rooms in more than one of your safehouses, right?

seems going melee is a huge disadvantage to building a ranged character in this game.

Yes, melee is seriously gimped. Even if you spend a real life week or two training melee, you'll probably still have better attack odds with ranged combat. If you do want to go melee, I suggest crafting a driller. It's cheap and easy to get materials for, and does more base damage than the cheaper guns.

Oh, Important: PUT ALL LEVELUP POINTS INTO CONSTITUTION

You cannot train constitution. Levelup points are the only way to increase it. It caps at 200, though, so if you put points elsewhere for a couple levels, you're not forever crippled, just inconvenienced for a while.

By tomorrow we should have functional storage units in the safehouse and can start expanding it to produce food, water, and increase our hp/sp regen when we rest there.

The living quarters is the room that increases stamina regeneration. However, the increase is only 5% per level of the structure, and you only receive the bonus if you do "dedicated resting." Meaning...you can't train skills at the same time. It's not very worthwhile.

Some of the buildings don't do anything. The lookout post, for example. And barricades do nothing because zombies can't attack in the current version.

The most important things to upgrade are the various storage facilities and however much generator you need to accommodate them. The training facililities are kind of nice, but training is so slow in this game that it will take weeks of real time before you'll ever need them. They don't actually help your training, they increase your training cap. The default npc-owned training facilities should be enough to keep you covered for a long time.

Logging outside is very dangerous and a big no-no

Sort of yes...good advice to log out indoors, but death is fairly trivial. Anyone can see you on the map, come by and heal you, and even if that doesn't happen you just pay 50 stamina and you're back up and fine.

Crap, I'm really sorry but it looks like we can't start construction on anything until we upgrade the generator to L5. :(

It's saying 13/9 Power required to start construction on the storage room (we have a L3 generator so I'm guessing the text is just backwards since it said 13/6 before). So every facility you put materials towards ups the power requirements to start construction on anything.

*sigh*

That was unexpected... Oh well, guess we'll just have to focus on the generator :/

Yes, and yes. Training facilities, whether in npc or clan owned safehouses, merely increases your maximum possible stat value. It doesn't help your current value at all, and it doesn't speed up training. At the beginning of the game, I think stats cap at 30 or so, so, and there are a lot of npc-owned early-game training facilities that increase to the 70-ish range. One set maxed at a single safehouse is all you need. Put them in a safehouse near the starter area and everybody can get max caps early on and never worry about it again.

Though I've been playing for weeks, and my highest stat is 51. Building training facilities in your safehouse does not need to be a high priority.

There's a list of npc trainers here

I'd like to suggest posting a list of resources needed for upgrades here as well so we can know what to look for to upgrade the buildings while we're out.

Yes, putting material in counts as having started construction, so the power requirements are deducted. So putting materials in to everything can indirectly stop construction.

Related,  note that once you start contributing materials to a storage room, you can no longer access it. For example, if you upgrade storage to level 1, put stuff into storage, then somebody contributes a wrench or something to start the next level...you will no longer be able to get to your stuff in storage. Which is both stupid and inconvenient. Fortunately, however, the storage window is shared by all storage facilities, so if you can't access food storage, but you can still access the armory, you can click the armory to get to your stored food.

Has the req's for all the facilities and their levels. Pipes, 2x4's, bricks, wood panel, etc. are pretty commonly required but we can just buy those from the hardware store. The "specialty" items are the ones that we really need to get hold of (i.e. boxing gloves for the boxing gym, laptop computer for the library, etc).

Has the req's for all the facilities and their levels.

Note that some of the wiki entries for safehouse requirements are no longer completely accurate, but it's close.
