Loose Laptop Screen
« on: December 15, 2012, 03:26:29 am »

So I was listening to music and I thought I heard a snapping sound when I moved the screen, after which my laptop's screen stopped being able to stop at any position. It still "holds", so to speak, but it falls about an inch forward from where I leave it and will move under it's own gravity.

Any idea what I did and if I can fix it? I've tried moving the thing around in every direction, but that hasn't done anything and I don't want to push it, lest I break it more.

Google around for this problem using your model number, there *might* be a screw to tighten or something, or you might have to take it in for service.   I highly recommend getting it taken care of - I was slack about taking care of a vaio where one of the hinges was getting loose, til one day it cracked and *SPROING* a whole bunch of tiny springy bits went everywhere...

Tape makes for a good temporary solution, i guess.

Dunno if it's like mine at all, but there's two-four screws underneath the case where the screen hinges to the main part of the laptop, and those tend to come loose.  They both hold your case together and anchor the screens joins to keep them from sliding around, try tightening them a bit.

The good news is that may be it. The bad news is that I need an R8 screwdriver if it is, and I don't have one.
