Even freely available black powder, a few nails, a section of pipe, and some yarn makes a pipe bomb. Control those too? Background checks for pipes?

The bodies of these precious children aren't even cold and already we're trying to get gun control?

Hey, newsflash. Some gasoline and some fertilizer and he could have done worse. A fire set at a door could have done worse. Ban lighters? Ban fertilizer? Ban gasoline?

All of those have intended uses other than putting holes into living things.

So? Even cradle bedding, which serves little to no purpose, asphyxiates hundreds of babies a year. Let's ban it!

All of those (other then maybe the black powder?) have legitimate uses. Not to mention it is still easier to use to a gun to reliably kill more people.

Also wow. So true. The comfort of babies is not a thing.

Water has no legitimate uses but it drowns tons of people, ban it.

That's a disingenuous argument because like Putnam just said above you, those have many more uses than a gun does all of them.

Also they're next to impossible to control. Firearms, on the other hand, are a sophisticated piece of technology that generally has to be manufactured to have any degree of effectiveness. Far far easier to control.

You don't use freedom Penguin. First you demand it, then you have it.
No using. That's not what freedom is for.

It happens when people start jumping off slippery slopes.

This woulda been funny if somebody mentioned this thread going downhill.

Every time there's a tragedy like this, the anti-sensationalists jump on it before everyone else to push their anti-media agenda. They wave their "moral superiority" around when really they just want to shut down everyone else's conversations. Have some respect.

This gun control argument is almost certainly going to go absolute nowhere just like every other gun control argument that has ever started on the Internet and every gun control argument that will happen in US legislative bodies as a result of this (and even as I type this it continues to spiral downwards), so I think I will just post this link to the Onion. Doesn't look like anyone else has. They're saying what we're all thinking.

from mail.com

Quote
A law enforcement official identified the gunman as 20-year-old Adam Lanza, the son of a teacher. A second law enforcement official said his mother, Nancy Lanza, was presumed dead.

Quote
Adam Lanza's older brother, 24-year-old Ryan, of Hoboken, N.J., was being questioned, the first official said. Earlier, a law enforcement official mistakenly identified Ryan as the shooter. Both officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record about the unfolding investigation.

He tried to get past the office staff. They tried to stop him, but they were shot. Imagine if one of them had a gun? Imagine if, after rigorous background and mental health checks, every member of the staff that passed was required to have a gun?
