According to the news ticker I've seen, they've found the father and one brother dead, a younger brother is in custody, and the killer's girlfriend and a friend is missing. Mixed sources, so there could be some confusion going on.

YES i almost started laughing.

I don't live in the US of A and don't plan on moving there (not that they would let me in anyway) and damn those several annual shootouts stopped being horrifying for me to read about.
It's just how America rolls nowdays.

The obvious solution would be finally restricting acces to guns but obviously the arms dealers weapon manufacturers lobby would be against it because legal sale of firearms is a giant multimillion dollar buisness for them.
On top of that Freedom lemmings would jump in and rage at the idea of being defenseless as well (how dare you restrict acces to guns when there are so many crazies with guns!).
And if the goverment despite all this decided to push gun restrictions anyway they'd have another secession war brewing.

Several hours ago a few sources were reporting that the shooter was the father of one of the children in the school. I'm sure in another few hours half the things they're telling us now will turn out to be false.

I'm pretty certain the shooter was a 24-year old male. Can't vouch for the name, but once they have a dead individual wearing body armor and carrying weapons at an elementary school, I'm thinking they got the right guy.

remeber that correlation doesn't mean causation, and the fact that europe has had very less freak accidents like these may be correlated more to the social welfare than the gun regulations (you can still have small arms here).

Anecdotally speaking, it seems as if these mass shootings have been increasing exponentially ever since the middle of the last decade.

Be careful who you piss off these days, seriously.

I had a friend who got mugged by three people a few years ago when he was 19. Busted jaw and all that. He got his conceal and carry as soon as he turned 21. Hopefully he won't have to use it, but I have to admit I started out hang out with him less and less as a result.

This makes me sad. More so the fact that whatever "problems" this/these person/people were dealing with, that someone always has it worse and getting grounded or yelled at or whatever is not an excuse to act like a total lunatic. Though I feel like this will only happen again in a month, and I'm already becoming "desensitized" to this kind of garbage. So sad.

Yet the biggest tragedy about it is that people WON'T learn from it and WON'T avoid it the future.

As for the chineese stabbing spree.
A knife has more than one use while a gun has only one.
The police in china was probably slower to respond.
You actually have a slight chance of countering when in sight of someone with a knife (hit him with a chair?) but someone with a gun? Not nearly as much.

I think the biggest tragedy is that most people will see this, wring their hands and cry "What the fuck?? We have to have better gun control."
But a vocal and powerful minority will derail that before it goes anywhere. As they always do. Because their right to a private fucking arsenal of metal schlong compensators apparently outweighs public safety and the lives of children.

And please note, I'm not an anti-gun nut. I enjoy target shooting, I enjoy the craftsmanship in a fine firearm, I recognize the utility of a .22 long rifle from years of growing up around farms. That doesn't mean that I think our current system of oversight is fuctional or sufficient in any way, shape or form.
