This is a very good and useful tutorial. I am going to use this method next time I have to pierce one of these ugly brutes. Also, I am sorry to be pedantic, but I must let you know that you actually pronounce "aquifer" as "aqui-fer" or "ackwi-fer", rather than "aquifier".

Good video, just had a question...does the cave-in destroy the water? Is that basically the technique?

The cave-in displaces the water that's already there upwards. What it provides is a seal to prevent further leaking when you dig down through the middle of the non-aquifer material you drop into the hole in the aquifer layer.

Could you remove the second aquifer by repeating the process.

As in, instead of droppnig a 4x4 section into the aquifer layer, dropping a 6x6, then dropping a 4x4 into the center?

Pretty much. The size goes up by 2 for each aquifer layer.

It also requires a greater thickness of non-aquifer material above the aquifer. With two layers above per layer of aquifer, you can theoretically do it with an extra 2 tiles wide per layer. Side view:

Code: [Select]
#########      #########      ## ### ##      ##     ##
#       #      #       #      #       #      #       #
# ##### # drop #       # dig  #       # drop #       #
#       # ==>  # ~~~~~ # ==>  #       # ==>  #       #
AA~~~~~AA      AA#####AA      AA#   #AA      AA#~~~#AA
AAAAAAAAA      AAAAAAAAA      AAA~~~AAA      AAA###AAA

However, there are problems with getting stairs or ramps down there. It will be easier if you save a little extra space per layer for stairs. You may also have to do some work pumping water, if it doesn't have room to spread to safe levels.

Code: [Select]
##########      ##########      ## ### ###      ##     ###
#        #      #        #      #        #      #        #
# ###### # drop #        # dig  #        # drop #        #
#        # ==>  # ~~~~~~ # ==>  #        # ==>  #        #
AA~~~~~~AA      AA######AA      AA#   /#AA      AA#~~~/#AA
AAAAAAAAAA      AAAAAAAAAA      AAA~~~AAAA      AAA###AAAA

You can get by with fewer layers above the aquifer, but you'll need to reserve more extra horizontal space per layer in order to separate each layer to trigger the cave-in.

Code: [Select]
# ####### #      #         #      #         #      #         #
# ####### # drop # ~~~~~~~ # dig  #         # drop #         #
#         # ==>  # ####### # ==>  #   ###   # ==>  #         #
AA~~~~~~~AA      AA#######AA      AA#    /#AA      AA# ~~~/#AA
AAAAAAAAAAA      AAAAAAAAAAA      AAAA~~~AAAA      AAAA###AAAA

You'll need even an extra space if you use stairs instead of a ramp, as stairs will make a supporting connection along the edge the block you're trying to drop.
