Spontaneous Combustion
« on: December 14, 2012, 01:43:55 am »

Came back to Ironwrath today and as soon as I unpause the game a goblin's right foot in my refuse stockpile randomly ignites and begins to burn down my courtyard. Is this a thing, or something that should be added to the bug tracker? I attempted to put the save on DFFD but the folder is 331MB :(

Have you been playing with turning temperature on and off?  I believe if you do that you can have things that came into contact with magma randomly ignite.  Other than that... unless there's magma, a fire imp, a forgotten beast, a titan, or a demon in your refuse stockpile, I don't know how that could have happened.

I had a titan that shot fireballs a game year or two back but his corpse is gone from the stockpile, I have not adjusted temperature settings and am playing with a fresh download of the game.

I'd try reloading a couple times and before unpauseing too look around.
also check for weird coverings of blood and vomit.

Though maybe that's the issue. The concept is just too simple for the dwarven mind to grasp!

That's how I was able to determine it started at the foot. When I load the save no fire, double tap spacebar and the foot is burning and it spreads out from there of course.

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!

I rarely use compression software anymore, apparently it has come a long way from when I did frequently (back in floppy drive days). Didn't expect it to pack down to almost 10% of original size.

My guess is fire snakes have gotten into your stockpile. Get some cats or assign a few dwarves as trappers to keep the vermin down.

I admit I have no experience with fire snakes so I wiki'd them. It says they only spawn around magma sites, of which I have none.

My guess is that with the fresh install something happened to the temperature. I don't recommend fixing it, though, because I like flaming goblins.

At the moment the game is loaded, that foot (and not anything such as the grass) is at temperature 10697.

Other goblin parts are in the stockpile, so it isn't a material-wide problem.

Hey, how come the troglodyte body parts are all temp 10015, when the outdoors temp is 10022 and other outdoors vermin/bones are at 10022? Some yak calf parts are at 10046? And if I lower only the temperature of the foot (so it doesn't catch on fire) and let the game run for a while, the item temperatures are all over the place (some are getting colder or warmer despite being outside!).  ???

EDIT:
As I let the game run for a long period of time, all items eventually become temperature 10022, same as outdoors. The initial temperatures are odd. At this time, saving and loading the game doesn't change that.
