Monitor calibration
« on: December 13, 2012, 12:26:46 pm »

Anybody know any decent websites/software for this?  Just upgraded from a 1366x768 to a 1680x1050 and while the extra pixels are great, the glary whiteness isn't.

If there is a lot of glare, it may be the matte finish on the monitor. If that's the case, no calibration will help your situation. Only positioning the monitor in a dark corner with curtains black out will improve it.

If you have windows 7 you can use the built in calibration tool. The directions are pretty self-explanatory.

http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php Is full screen test image for contrast/brightness. Too much brightness washes light grays to white. Too much contrast washes your dark grays to black.
http://displaycalibration.com/color_depth.html is useful for color/gamma correction on the hardware side.

After your hardware side is good, you can do some fine tuning with windows software. If you want a better calibration I recommend a colorimeter and accompany software.
