ACTUALLY THEY TEND TO GIVE YOU FINES AND/OR TAKE YOU TO COURT FOR NON-COMPLIANCE AS WITH MOST OTHER CRIMES

But how...how did they find you? Drive around with a list of non-subscribers and look for rabbit ears on the roof? It just seems eminently unenforceable, on par with having to check to see if I have the actual CDs to correspond with the MP3s on my hard drive (WHICH I TOTALLY DO...NOTHING TO SEE HERE, RIAA)

If you don't pay your water, they can cut off the pipes.
If you don't pay your electric bill, they can cut off the lines to the house.
If you don't pay your TV fee....they alter physics to exclude your house? Or come and get your TV (at which point you've already hidden it and claimed that it was stolen/pawned, and that's why you weren't renewing the fee)

I mean, the idea actually works now with broadband and digital TV because there's a "data pipe" to cut off for non-payment. But for broadcast media, it just seems insane.
