My Friendly Neighborhood Kobolds... must DIE!
« on: December 12, 2012, 05:56:19 am »

So, a small bit back, I started up a game of Dwarf Fortress. I was expecting nothing all that exciting, to be honest, but as my hunter started getting meat, I looked to see what he would be hunting. noticing upwards of 100 or so creatures in the "OTHER" category, I checked and came across THIS!

Right in the northwestern corner of my map, on ground-freaking-level, is a colony of kobolds. KOBOLDS! They haven't done anything homicidal yet, but it could only be a matter of time. All it takes is for one migrant wave or caravan to show up and it could be like smacking a hornet's nest.

I'm going to share my experiences here. If nothing happens, I may even let others play the round, with the only rule being that you cannot take up arms and slaughter our friendly neighborhood kobolds. It's more interesting if they're there, IMHO. Anyway, I'll keep you posted.

Then I proceeded to pick up the rest of the bunnies, the masterfully crafted bronze statue, and its head. The head will be his trophy... But I need money.

The good news is that it'll be fun to watch.  The bad news is no kobold pets, unless you pit them or otherwise keep them away from trouble.

Ow. My eyes. Could you please look at that with a tileset? I'd prefer a picture I can comprehend.

HA HA!
Everyone sees that's a tribe of kobold spearmen, bowmen, hammermen, axemen and a few lashers sitting over the pile of crafts.

I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.

He's right. I used to only be able to see the game with ironhand until I forced myself use the ASCII, now it's almost gotten intuitive.

Yep.

And tilesets actually hurt my eyes.  Too much color and complex shapes.  I like good ol' alphabet soup.

Okay, after playing for a bit, javierpwn was right. They're so passive that they don't really mind a DWARF WITH A CROSSBOW SHOOTING THROUGH THE LOT OF THEM AT A OPOSSUM!

So I've come to a decision. These kobolds must DIE!

The file is below. The map has barely hit first spring thaw. The farm hasn't been finished yet. The DEPOT hasn't been set up. The skeleton crew has not been bolstered by the first migrant wave.

There's a large vein of tetrahedrite right in the area I was clearing out for my first stockpile area, so there's that. supply wise, there's ample booze. food may be a problem, but the hunter and his faithful dog are working on it.

Kill the kobolds and post it on this message board (pretty pictures would be nice!).

Just one rule: DON'T just get a militia together and stomp them into red paste. Be creative about it! You must use some form of Dwarven !!SCIENCE!! to eliminate them! lava, drowning, a giant atom smasher, whatever! the more creative and entertaining to tell us, the better!

Have fun!
