The tension was unbearable, someone snapped, it was unsure who. Each took careful aim at the one they suspected and all of the sudden...

Night 6 will end 2/12/2013 at 5PM. There are 24 hours left.

The Old Parchment Reads:

“I-I didn’t do it!” shouted Onyxjew944 as the remaining townsfolk glanced at eachother before switching their target one last time.

“You’re the only one who could have done it.” Stated Captain Ford “No one else here had a motive! We all knew you hated Ol’ Jimmy Pete! You were best friends with ReDeadEr!”

“I’m just a Regular Townsfolk!” Shouted Onyxjew as the others cut off any chance of escape. There was nowhere to go. “St-stay back! I swear I’ll shoot!” Onyxjew944 threatened his trembling gun switching between Captain Ford and Tiruin almost as soon as it landed on one or the other. Finally, in desperation, Onyx pulled back the hammer of his weapon fully intending to take Ford’s life.

Bang!

As the sound of the gun faded out Onyx dropped his gun, reaching for his bleeding throat. He lived only a few seconds longer.

“Well I suppose-“

A second crack rang out as the revolver flew from Captain Ford’s hand.

“What? It was you!” Cried out Captain Ford as he turned to see Tiruin pointing his gun at him.

“Well well… Now it is down to you… and it is down to me.” Tiruin’s smile could not have been wider as he slowly approached the shell-shocked Captain Ford “Not too bad for a simple Wrangler is it? No one ever suspected me.”

“But you! Why?”

“For the money of course. Granted I would have preferred a less… bloody acquisition. I don’t suppose you’d be willing to let me go off scot-free would ya?”

“Never!” Captain Ford shouted as he began to try to find a way out of this situation. His gun was within arm’s reach, all it would take is a quick dive… But Tiruin was obviously a lot better than he let on. There was no chance for him to get a shot in before Tiruin.

“Now now, never is a strong word isn’t it? Wouldn’t want to end up like Onyx over there would ya? Just a Regular Townsfolk bleeding to death in the dusty wind? Nah, I always liked ya though. So how about a free chance? One last show-down before one of us leaves to meet ol’ Jimmy Pete one last time?”

“Why would I do that?” Growled Ford as a small gust of wind began.

“Simple, I could just kill you now. Now pick up the gun, ah, slowly… Good. Holster it; if you pull back that hammer you’re dead.” Tiruin kept his gun trained on Ford’s head as he directed him to the middle of the street kicking the body of Onyx out of the way as he passed. Looking briefly at the ground he found exactly what he was looking for as the wind began to kick up to  a near tempest in speed.

“Here we go!” The wind died down “This rock will be our judge.” Picking up an easily visible rock he stood with it in his left hand “When this rock hits the ground we draw.” The wind picked up again causing Tiruin to shout “No cheating. The winner gets Ol’ Jimmy’s gold. The loser gets an all expense paid trip to hell. Deal?”

“Deal.” Ford shouted over the wind. This was his last chance. As soon as the rock hit the ground… It would all be over.

It seemed to happen in slow motion. Tiruin tossed the rock up into the air as the wind whipped his duster coat around at a near insane velocity.  Ford’s eyes were fixed to the stone as it reached its apex. Crack!!!

With that Captain Ford fell to the ground dead. A bullet placed dead center between his eyes.

The rock landed with a small thud as the wind died again “Draw.” Chuckled Tiruin as he spun his gun around on his finger before holstering it with a flourish. “You’re pretty good. Too trusting though.” Tiruin stated as he walked past the corpse of Onyxjew and proceeded to retrieve the gold from the remains of the courthouse.

No one truly knows what happened after Tiruin left Jackelope. Newspapers of the day speak of his suicide. Acting on an anonymous tip the authorities investigated the small ghost-town only to find a nearly rotten corpse in the middle of the road. A single bullet placed betwixt its eyes. All identification pointed to the fact that Tiruin, in a fit of despair, had killed himself in atonement.

Across the border in the tiny ghost town of Chupacabara, however, the real Tiruin laughed as he took another sip of liquor. The authorities were so easy to fool. Everyone of them were the same. He couldn’t wait to live out his days in relative decadence. He’d never have to work again. “Oh Maria?” Called the devilish rogue “I don’t suppose I could get another one of these eh?”

“Say did you hear?” Asked a nearby locale to his friend “Senor Verdan has found a large stache of gold! We’re all going to get rich off of the gold rush! Isn’t that wonderful Senor Tiruin!?”

Tiruin himself simply smiled as he replied “Well… There’s nothing wrong with acquiring a bit of cash is there?”

TOWN WINS!!! [Day 2]
[Assumes Ford was hammer vote.]

Tiruin looked at the remaining townsfolk as the closed in on him. “Now now fellas… Let’s not be hastey.” He nervously intoned as he found his back pressed up against the tree that served as the gallows. Ironic… Jimmy Pete had always liked that tree…

“A’right ye coward.” Stated Ford as they slowly drew their old revolver from its holster and placed it over Tiruin’s heart “No sudden mo’ements. We’ll be gen’le.”

“B-b-but… It was ReDeadEr! He made me do it guys! I didn’t hurt anyone last night! I voted for him! Why else would I do that? I never wanted to come back to the bandit life-style! I left it behind! I swear! I wanted to live in peace but he would have killed me! I never did nothing to Jimmy Pete! We was close as brothers!”

This argument seemed to persuade some of the less violent townsfolk as they looked around at eachother to try to determine how to react. “Well… I suppose… Tiruin does make sense.”

“Y’all right. ‘e didn’t hurt us, but ‘e didn’ help us none neither!” Shouted Irony Owl “Guilty by association! Sides, we on’y got’is word that ‘e didn’ shoot Ol’ Jimmy Pete ‘imself! ‘E JUST ‘MITTED THAT ‘E’S A BANDIT! ‘E PROBABLY KILLED PLENNY PEOPLE ‘FOR THIS! I SAY WE ‘VENGE THEM AN’ JIMMY PETE RIGHT NOW!”
This impassioned speech sealed  Tiruin’s fate.
Jackelope never did recover from economic devastation. Over the years the remaining townfolk left to pursue more or less fruitful lives. The buildings decayed to dust and the infamous Gallow-Tree continued to grow. Even when an interest in ghost towns kicked up again Ol’ Jackelope didn’t receive any new settlers or business and it remained as barren as the land around it until the name passed from memory.
Some say that the body of Tiruin still hangs in the sweet embrace of the Gallow-Tree overlooking the remains of the town that sealed his fate and that would always be a resting grave for both him and Jimmy Pete.

Town wins!!! [Day 4]

Tiruin sighed as the remaining three townsfolk reached slowly for their weapons. “Well… I suppose the jig is up isn’t it?”

“Why’d you do it?” Asked Captain Ford.

“Why’d you do your service in the army? Why are you just a Regular Townsfolk? Why are they Regular Townsfolk? Same reason really.” Tiruin sighed “I needed the money and I followed the path that would have been the best for me. I didn’t want to kill anyone.”

“But you’ve worked as a Wrangler on my ranch for years! Why the sudden change of heart!?” Irony Owl asked. The betrayal had obviously affected him the most. The two had been friends for years. They had been all but inseparable for years such was the power of their friendship. Tears threatened to spill from the wise man’s eyes.

“Calm down Owl. I didn’t want to kill anyone, I already told you.” Tiruin slowly stared at each of them in turn “I just couldn’t let myself get lynched. The ones who died did so due to their annoying habit of snooping around at night.” Tiruin’s usual firm voice took on an almost unnatural hatred at the word snooping.

“Is that why you killed-“ Onyx “Jew” Ninefortyfour started but was interrupted by the hate filled voice of Tiruin once again.

“Oh be quite! Like any of you are better than me? I did what I did to survive! You killed just as many, no, more than I did for the same reason! You lynched three people! I killed one! ReDeadEr was the one who did the killings not me! I just tied people up to keep them from learning too much!”

“It was you!” Shouted Irony Owl as he recalled how he had been tied up on the first day.

“I saved your life you ungrateful bastard! This is how I’m going to get repaid for saving you from Red? A coward’s death? A shallow grave perhaps? What of our friendship Irony? All those years just to be ended by a bullet? Think you can-“ three separate cracks rang out as Tiruin fell silent forever.

Each of the townsfolk looked around at eachother to see the smoking guns within each of their hands.

The town of Jackelope never truly recovered. Each and every one of the survivors buried the dead bodies as best they could. Tiruin himself received a small burial more befitting a monk than a bandit by Irony Owl as a sort of final farewell to their friendship.

Irony Owl went on to sell his land, too many painful memories, to a rail-road interest. He used the money to start up a new ranch. The Ironic Wrangler was a successful business for many years and is still around to this day.

Captain Ford eventually returned to his service in the army, eventually becoming General Ford. Rumor has it that he never truly trusted anyone from that day forward. Though history still speaks highly of his military genius.

OnyxJew944 himself was the very last soul to leave Jackelope. Some indescribable force kept him there in quiet contemplation for  two years after Irony Owl sold his land. Onyx watched the rail-road company come and go. Perhaps he stayed in hopes that Jackelope would regain its glory when the rail-road company came through. If so he was severely disappointed. As the first train went straight by the town without stopping Onyx knew that it was a hopeless dream. In the end he wandered off to parts unknown.

While the blood-shed stopped the sad fact of the matter is that it only hastened the inevitable. Though there are still stories of a raspy old laugh echoing through the silent walls of the saloon. As time passed more voices joined though their source has never been found even to this day.

At the end of the day you were always just an average citizen on the frontier.  During the day-light hours you’d work hard and at night you’d take care of your family. Years of frontier life have taught you that you have to do what you have to do… and right now that’s avenging Ol’ Jimmy. Somewhere along the lines people started calling you Fraxert... You have no idea where the nick-name has come from but now that you have awoken from your nap you are fully prepared to root out the remaining bandit.

You were never trained in much so your only weapon is your voice and your vote. You win when all of the Bandits have been hanged.

You creep steadily along the night trail on the case of your target. You are sure that Captain Ford is a bandit. You’d be willing to bet your life on it! Unfortunately that’s exactly what you do, and you lost the gamble. The last thing you see is the flash from the darkness and two silhouettes that are obviously not Captain Ford. Well… at least if you see Ol’ Jimmy Pete and +!!scientist!!+ in the great beyond you can tell them that Captain Ford was an innocent man.

Tiruin:
You grab your trusty lasso as you head off into the night. Trusting ReDeadEr to do what he is supposed to you set about capturing IronyOwl and perhaps disposing of them as well.
 While the first half of your plan goes better than expected [The darkness obscuring your bandana covered face] they are so taken by surprise that they are unable to scream before you gag them.
Gunshots from nearby however notify you that ReDeadEr is done with his work so you must delay the second part of your plan for now. Rushing back to the hide-out you prepare for another day in court where you are sure IronyOwl will be looking for revenge.

ReDeadEr:
“Ho there!” you cry out as you see notquitethere creeping along. He seems shocked by your appearance and narrows his eyes at you. There is just enough light left to see his hand reach for his gun.

“Calm down moron, ifin I were gonna shoot ya I wouldn’ta called out would I?” This seems to make sense to the lone man as he relaxes “So what’re y’all doin’ out here?” You ask him.

“I’m… Just takin’ a walk…” He replies, obviously worried about something.

“You a bandit pard?” You ask half-way serious. No need to risk more competition.

“Nah! I’m… Just checkin’ on someone. They’re a bandit!” He mumbles as he turns away.

You walk close to him “Me? Tiruin? I think it’s Tiruin myself.”

“Nah, it couldn’t be him. Like I said I’m sure it’s the other fella I mentioned! I’d bet mah life on it!”

Grinning as you drew your revolver you said quietly “You bet wrong.”

As his corpse dropped to the ground you counted off another victory in your head. Only a few more days and you’ll be sitting pretty in Mexico and half the gold.

You arrived at Lynx_’s home around mid-night. “Howdy pard’, what’re y’all doin’ here so late?” he asked laughing.

“I just… I don’t think all this here killin’s right.” You explain.

“I bet ya don’t…” Something in his voice worries you.

“Well anyway I was thinkin’ if we all banded together we could stop these useless lynches and…” He cut you off.

“So the big bad bandit decides he’s done killin’? Oh don’t look so shocked now. I saw ya last night sneakin’ around.”

“Wh-what!?” He knew?

“Yep…” Sighed Lynx_ “I’m just a simple townsfolk, I have no interest in these games Tiruin. Just do whatever you came to do… I’m tired. . . So very tired of this life. Why else do you think I didn’t say anything?”

For some reason his lack of caring takes most of the fun out of your plan to outsmart the town “Did you tell anyone?”

“Nope. Didn’t see how it concerned me. They woulda hanged me just the same as anyone else. Might as well let them sweat it out. Oh and do me a favor?”

“What’s that?” you decide with him being so honest about all of this it is the least you can do.

“Shoot me between the eye-“ his body slumps to the floor your expertly placed bullet having destroyed what used to be a brain instantly.

“I think I can manage that.” You holster your gun but a thought nags at you while you walk home ‘What if someone else knows?’

Lynx_

A life-time of politeness is what drew you to the door when you heard the knock. Before it even occurred to you the danger it placed you in you had opened the door, and with that doomed yourself to death. The loud bang of a gun was the last thing you heard. Welcome to the after-life.

Tiruin

Irony Owl and you both managed to make it inside of the aptly named “Whirlwind Saloon” when the tornado hit. Panting and frightened you both cowared as far away from the windows as humanely possible.
“I think we’ll be safe in here!” Shouted your companion over the wind “At least for now.”

“Yeah… I reckon I will.” You say through a pant. You truly meant nothing by it. The two of you being such good friends you were loathe to kill him.

“What are you saying? IT WAS YOU!” Irony Owl shouted leaping to conclusions as was his habit. Except this conclusion would result in a fatal accident.

When he drew his gun there was nothing you could do. Wrestling it out of his hands you were shoved him a bit too hard and straight out the window he went. That was the last you ever saw of him alive… A real shame too. You had planned on letting him live.

Irony Owl:

The winds kicked around you forcing you away from the “Whirlwind Saloon” and away from safety. As your body sought any sort of grip you felt a large hunk of wood drive straight through your chest. It was the last thing you ever felt. Welcome to the other side.

Look dude I'm sorry. Like I've said I had a decision to make and not a lot of time to make it. It wouldn't have been fair for me to go "Sorry JK lol, no night time yet." The day had ended. You all had a weekend to extend. If I could go back and do it differently I would. Sorry again but there's nothing I could have done. Once the thread was locked so was any chance of me doing anything.

I'm sorry to hear you won't be joining any other games I mod. I may not mod any for a while as it stands. Again... Sorry.

I don't actually hate you for this. But it's a real shame. This was a fantastic game, and I feel like we were all cheated by not being able to complete it. I know I was...

Ah, that's a shame. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and learned a fair amount, and I apologize as usual for not giving this game the attention it deserves.

Having Tiruin as the last bandit was really tough on town, since he tends to be fairly verbose and can be downright indecipherable sometimes. He certainly tried to encourage people to follow up on their suspicions of him, though.


Also, if it's any consolation, Ford, the game was meant foremost to be a learning experience. You certainly seem like you're done with BMs and can move on to "real" games now anyway.
