Etrian odyssey 3's trailer had a party named after the original trolls from homestuck too! Atlus USA is pretty great.

EO4 has some of the best little joke events in the series, I think.  At the last floor of the second area, and the music at the conclusion to the Moth Egg quest and that taunting crayfish in the Noisy Pool both already stick out as rather amusing to me.  It's the little things, I think, that really make the game so entertaining. ^_^

I'm vaguely interested in this series. Does it run well on an emulator? I want to try it before I commit money, but some games are really finicky about emulators.

An older version of EO3 was really finicky, but it works now.

Alright, so I've had Etrian Odyssey 4 for about a week now, and I've thrashed about the 2nd land and labyrinth and made it on to the 3rd floor of the 2nd labyrinth, and all I can say is this:
Dang, they sure are throwing the plot at us much earlier and in greater volumes now.

Also, a side question for you Real Pros out there that have beaten the game and started New Game +s:
What gets carried over? Like, is equipment not carried but map data is, or map data isn't carried and money is, or is nothing carried over at all because Atlus, or...? Thanks!

Well, I just recently managed to beat EO1 with my lovely LDSAM team, and now I'm in the post-game with everyone's levels maxed.

I'm on floor 27/28, and...oh god.

wahahahaaaa, good luck with that. :P

And say hello to the wyrms for me! You'll need the anti-fire, anti-ice, and anti-elec skills maxed for them. Or positively obscene level grinding. Seriously just grind up the protector it'll take less time.

Guess who just beat the Dragon with an LDSAM party? (No Protector or anti-element skills)

It was kind enough to drop me a Volt Scale when it died, too. Huzzah!

Now on to the next one.

I hope you aren't trying that on the same day as the Volt Scale, things like that tend to make your luck go out soon after, at least for me and EO.

After the ordeal with the Dragon, the Wyrm was almost pathetically easy. I failed on my first attempt due to not expecting its confusing attack, but on the second attempt (after I bought an Amber Ring for my Medic) I sailed through with no deaths or close calls. No scale though. At least it should be easy to kill repeatedly in the future.

Now to stock up on Instant Death Resist + items. :P

Alright, so, last night, after several attempts, managed to beat

with my LDSAM team.
After I beat it my team was close to death and I was paranoid my DS would shut off to spite me, so I warped out immediately and saved/healed.
This morning I headed back down to finish mapping the area behind the boss, and...

Never before has a game trolled me so hard. >:(
I planned to 100% this thing but now I think I'll leave it be. Take a break and play other games for a while and then do EOIII.

I'm here to revive the thread with news.

A new game has been announced, New Etrian Odyssey: Millenium Maiden!

The gist is it's a remake of the first EO game, this time with a bit more focus on plot and customization. You have five dudes, they all have names and plot associated with them as a typical JRPG party would, and you can switch classes on them. There's also a Classic Mode, which will work like EO1. Also expect balance fixes because Atlus wants you and your little band of incredibly lethal children dead. On top of all this, you'll also be able to pick between live orchestral performed music (wow, is that a first? I'm actually not sure. Maybe not.) and FM audio, IE synthesized tracks. On top of this, there's a new difficulty system, easy, normal, hard, presumably similar to EO4's system (IE, easy gets a permanent warp wire, probably weaker enemies), and it also uses the 3DS's 3D capabilities, IE 3D enemies.

But wait, there's more! You can find stones called "grimoire" that contain skills from other classes that you can graft onto your currently existing characters. So a protector with double attack, for instance. They occur randomly after battles.

A release date for the US hasn't been announced, and in fact it's just being announced in japan, but Atlus are cool dudes about these things so expect it at some point!
