Hello thread, amazon is currently selling new copies of EO 1 2 and 3, and offering preorders for 4, dunno about the preorder, but the other 3 are being sold for about 30 bucks. If you're lookin to get one, now's the time!

EDIT: Also, Dekafu, if you happen to see this like 15 days after you actually said so, and if it's even still relevant, I'm pretty sure the memo cap is per floor.  :P

Oddly enough, I stopped playing when I hit that point and haven't gotten back to it yet, so it actually is! Thanks. That means I only have to redo one map and not all of them. :P

I've had a new copy of EO3 sitting around for a couple days now (thank you Amazon and your 2 day free shipping!) but I still plan to finish EO1 before opening it. My impression was that 2 was really "more of the same" as 1 with improvements/rebalances and 3 was where they really changed things up, so I decided to skip 2. Is that a fair assessment? Is there any plot continuity between them?

There is no plot continuity between games.  The closest the games ever get to it is a password import feature between 1 and 2: by finishing 1, you get a password that, when you import it into 2, sets your guild name to the same as that in 1, changes some dialogue to reflect that you are a veteran guild, and gives you a couple freebies.  However, it doesn't change your characters or have any long-term effects.  As for the plot, every game is self-contained; the most you'll miss by skipping games is just recognizing one or two familiar faces among the bosses.

Highly enjoying Etrian Odyssey 1 thanks to the reprint, which I picked up through Amazon, even though I do miss some of the later games' features.  Like multiple colours for the map to mark out special floor tiles, or additional icons for various things like shortcuts or separate gathering points.  Or strafe buttons.  Ah, strafe buttons...

I think there's actually a very small amount of plot consistancy between games? Like it takes place in the same world, and it references the island the first game takes place on like once. At any rate it's not worth playing through the entire game just for it if you don't want to to begin with.

Three does change things up, switches new classes in, and generally adds a lot of variety in builds. In EO1 and 2 the protector is always a tank, landsknecht.... well that class has some variety, alchemist is nuke, etc. I believe it also takes place in a different world, although I may be wrong and it doesn't matter terrible much anyway.

While EO3 still follows those general formats, there are usually a few different ways to go about them (except with the hoplite, it remains more or less the same, although I think it gets a random attack skill or three), and the classes are less cut and dried as a particular build, which is nice if you like that sort of thing.

Probably ordering EO2 over the weekend, while it's not too expensive. I'm in EO3's fifth stratum already, so it shouldn't be too long 'till I can mix up the second and third playthrough of that game with EO2's stuff. Since I really, really like some of the old classes I figure I can enjoy it.

Oh, right. The fourth stratum boss. Since I cleared it while waiting at a Doctor's.

Right now playing EO2, running an unusual gathering party of 3 survivalists and 2 protectors, with the idea of them being able to gather from the higher floors no problem(with one of the survivalists being in my main mapping party usually)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Sounds like a pretty solid plan, two protectors would probably give you enough time to run away from most stuff anyway.

Also, new EO4 class preview video.

Right now I'm working on my gunner's bindshots. I've got them all unlocked, but I haven't put any skill points into them so I'm wondering which one to max out first

Well, it's important to note binds will lower specific stats when they bind, if you didn't know.

Binding arms lowers attack power, binding legs lowers evasion I think? And binding head lowers intelligence, I think.

Excuse me, I beg to differ with the title. UnReal World is the premier "being mauled by animals" simulator.
