Chasers are good when you have multiple sources of elemental damage. One chase will basically double that spell (and keep in mind the chaser is of the same element of the spell it chases), and then you cast it another 3 times and any fire weak enemy is just crushed, even bosses have a hard time with it I'd imagine.

EDIT: and remember another landsknect also casting a chaser will also chase that attack I think, so you could easily turn a single spell cast into several thousand damage even without weaknesses.

I think in the original game the chasers only activate once.

I'm fairly sure chasers will chase multiple times even in EO1, you may be right about two chasers not chasing the same attack though. I dunno either of them for sure though so uhhhhh, hmm.  :P

Yeah, and the elemental weapon buffs have unlimited duration in EO1 iirc. At least it was that way with the oils. Learn to abuse Flame/Shock/Freeze Oil if you don't have Alchemists, it's going to save your hide! Especially because, unlike in EO3, the attack gets fully converted to the target element and doesn't just get added on. (Well... I believe so, anyway...)

So, really, triple Landsknecht front row, two specced in Double Hit, one does the chasers. First turn everyone drops Hell Cry, your back row oils 'em up. Second turn... you're going to town. Assuming your front row has survived. This party comp has obvious survivability problems. To maximize damage you should probably equip the 2-hitters with axes.
Did I tell you how good Hell Cry is, already? It's around +70~90% attack buff when maxed, I'd wager. Even if it just was around 50% it still would be too good to pass up.

I believe every boss
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
has some sort of elemental weakness, and even if they don't, you're not really worse off for damage. The real problem might be having to drop all of your skill points into chasers for that one Landsknecht.

The original game -was- really bad with multiple activations, you ninjas. Used to the awesome Line Guard in EO3, I specced my Paladin into Front Guard at first... which can only guard against one attack. Ugh. Does Mikiri also only guard against one attack?

If you put three points into Front Guard and three points into Rear Guard you unlock Defender. That buff will raise your entire party's defense and along with Medic's Immunize both are skills that I've heard are essential when dealing with FOEs and bosses. I made it a priority for my Protector to get Defender for that reason.

...I get a lot of my information from GameFAQs mind you. A guide I read recommended it and it has worked well for me. A guide also recommended Provoke in combination with Parry, which while I haven't tried yet sounds like a good combination.

Defender isn't even that essential when you have Immunize. This is how broken that skill is.

Yeah in EO1 immunize is BROKEN AS HELL, it's proabbly the only skill in EO history that hasn't made a comeback in some form. Abuse it.

I managed to snag EO3, but I'm a little confused. Are Monks the only healing class? O_o

No, Princes can also heal. Albeit in a more convoluted manner.

Are princes/princesses capable of frontline combat? My current party is a prince, a spearfighter-the-name-of-which-I-can't-recall, a zodiac, an archer, and a monk.

They're slightly more sturdy than zodiacs, I think.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

They... sorta can? They can wear heavy armor and use decent weapons, but they don't really have the stats to back it up. They can take a few hits and dish a bit out but they're never gonna stack up to a gladiator in damage or a hoplite in tankiness.

For the record there is a skill simulator here, if you'd liek to try to make a "battle healing" monk. Something I've never tried, but.

But yes, classes in general are generally suited to a few specific things, princes buff, monks heal/melee, bucaneers chase attacks or use normal attacks buffed up with skills, hoplites tank, etc.

You can make characters do stuff they're not supposed to but it generally requires good knowledge of the game to make work.

And I've always preferred a prince for healing but due to how they work if they take a single hit most of their in battle healing capabilities go down the drain immediately. Monks are more reliable, and probably required for bosses.

Yeah, you can put the prince in the front line. They may not be quite as sturdy as a hoplite or gladiator, but they are sturdier than most other classes you may or may not want to put up front (wildling, buccaneer, ninja). They'll never do a lot of damage, but that's what you have the arbalist and the zodiac for, those are your killers. Your party is pretty defensive though.

Yeah, you seem to lack efficient TP damage (zodiacs are great but kind've heavy on the TP), arbalists are okay at it, monks can be good at it but most people go with healing.

It'd work but it's important to remember as you progress through the game that you will probably need to make more dudes then your original five, so don't be afraid to do that every now and then. Making a team of farmers to take advantage of the gathering spots is highly reccomended too, as it'll unlock equips and give you much needed cash flow.
