EO music has always been rediculously awesome, and really, atlus games in general tend to have pretty amazing music.

I can see whatcha mean by EO3 classes being complex, there's usually more then one skill "set", etc. That's probably the main reason I like it, but I can see how it'd be overwhelming. Wildlings.... while useful, are kind've odd because often the best way to use them is to summon an animal to proc the status effect, then desummon it, then summon it again, etc. Not sure what a mezzer is, I'm gonna assume it debuffs stuff. :P

And yeah, there are a ton of really strong class combinations in EO3, but by and large the game expects you to use them, especially for the post game, so they don't break the game so much as make it easier on you.

Annnnd I've gotta say, while I don't like them going back to old classes for EO4, the overworld, and the, as you said, shifting of subclasses to being well, SUBclasses are good changes.

I underestimated Dark Hunters quite a bit in the original game, I must admit. The thing is that nearly everyone in EO1 is an one-trick pony, and the Dark Hunter has some rather weird tricks that aren't as obvious as superpowerful full-party defensive buffs, infinite TP or two-shotting every encounter in the main game.

Also, get prepared to drop that Alchemist after the third stratum or so. They scale really badly into lategame (read: not at all).

At first, binds and status effects didn't seem too useful to me.. until I kept dying because I couldn't seal Fenrir's head and then Coldfangs everywhere. Also, I agree on Alchemists. I felt Survivalist was more useful, but couldn't match up to pure fire damage to Fenrir (especially with a Landsknecht with Blazer). I feel like later stuff is going to have crazy resistances and I will be murdered if I don't use the right thing, so.. Alchemist is gonna have to go sometime.

Honestly resistances aren't as big a deal as in, say, SMT. With that said you do occasionally run across a dude that's immune to everything but ice or whatever, and even then they're usually FOE. I immediately think of those bizzare pumpkin FOE on the second stratum in EO2.

So, number crunching.

I decided to take half the points out of Avenger and allocate them into Ether Mastery. With the N's evasive abilities, I can afford to have them switch places, and a Z is probably the last character who will benefit from 200 heals anyway, even if they weren't the most likely to die in the first place. And Ether Mastery is objectively better than the elemental masteries (2.5% increase in average compared to 1.1%), even for a single-elemental Z, let alone a triple elemental one.

But then I started wondering if I shouldn't take 9 of these points and put then into the star skills directly (only 9 of them because symmetryyyyyyy). So I started calculating.

With the initial setup, 1Star 10EM, the Z would do 50% damage (40% base damage * 1.25 EM bonus).
With 2/7, the base damage would increase, and even with the lowered bonus, the total damage would still be slightly higher (44%+1.16=51.04%)
With 3/4 we get 48%*1.08=51.84%
And 4/1 gets us 52%(Already better than the initial setup)*1.02=53.04%

So that's a net increase in damage of 6.08% there. However, it also increases TP consumption by 3TP to 11TP per cast, a 37.5% increase. It's not likely I'm going to use the stars often, but when I do, I will probably not even bother to use Dark Ether either, so the cost is not negligible either.

In short: worth it?

E: I could actually take two more points out of Avenger and put them, along the last point of EM, into the star skills raising the damage to 56% at 12TP.

In my personal opinion, and I am stingy with TP, I would keep them TP efficient. But, at the end of the day a lot of people swear by "more damage at any cost" thing.

I'd say if you're not using them terribly often, it's probably fine to make them a little inefficient.

Also as a side note, wasn't sure if you knew, Dark Ether only reduces TP costs for the turn it's casted, and as a result it can't reduce the TP costs for the zodiac that cast it.

There is, in fact, a monster in postgame that is immune to everything but volt damage. The thing there is, even Alchemists using their rank 10 Thunder spell aren't going to do much to them because they fail to scale. The Alchemist's chief problem is not having no weaknesses to exploit - that's always going to be there - but rather the fact that he/she doesn't get any more powerful after leveling their spells to max. They do scale off TEC, but that seems somewhat negligible.

One fun trick with Fenrir - lure him out of his arena. That way it'll take his flunkies longer to arrive.

And Ninja/Zodiac almost feels too exploitative. :/

I didn't know how to lure him, I just ran straight in and he stepped forward once to meet me. Luckily Tornado spam got all the other guys.
