Pretty much all good, survivalists in EO1 are super great at damage dealing, so you might consider branching into that, but pre-emptive strikes are a great advantage to have so that's good.

Quod erat demonstrandum. I am working on branching out Jeanne into such a thing because Multihit sounds freakin' sweet. You know, like the Family Guy: Freakin' Sweet Collection I got for Christmas of 2007 only without that banned episode that I really want to see right about now. Apollon sounds kind of good too but before I work on that I want to get Scavenge 1.

I want some fat loot like how a clowder of hungry kitties wants to be fed and fed right now regardless of how hungover Urist McCrazy-Cat-Lady is. Scavenge is my favorite skill because I am like a wyrmling dragon and the sheer potential of having the most toys in the multiverse. I want the fat loot and I want it now. I want everyone who can take it to take at least one rank of it.

Alchemist, I'm not sure but you might want to focus on a single element for now and move on to others as you go along, that might just be EO3. In any case it should be workable...

I thought so too but in order to kill everything with an Alchemist in the first stratum you need either Poison 10 or at least a few ranks of Fire and a few ranks of Ice. This is because several difficult mobs are weak to Fire and one really nasty son of a bitch is weak to Ice. Furthermore I am under the impression that...

...and yeah protectors are kinda bad starting out but get amazing as you progress, and start unlocking better shields and heavy armor.

Tabitha dies when she is killed. And she gets killed a lot. I think it is because of both her Plate making her slow as molasses dripping off drying paint, and because it's just her and Valerie in the front of the party. Therefore it's a 50% chance that if someone dies it will be the coolheaded blonde paladin and not the spicy redhead fighter.

Fate seems to work against Tabitha on a regular basis. She is now eighth level while everyone else in this five woman millitia is tenth level. Luckily Aideen now has a Buffcoat and thus usually has second strike, which while not as useful as first strike is still damn good for a Medic.

It's... not. Like, well. RH's kinda' anime-y, and it's kinda' jrpg-y, and it's turn-based, sure, mostly. But it's not really like EO, at all. Still good! But... not like EO. More jrpg, much less dungeon crawl, basically no roguelike.

I was recommending Radiant Historia to Robosaur since from first glance it sounded like a game he might want to play. The only connection it has to Etrian Odyssey is that it too is a limited-print ATLUS game. It was somewhat off-topic for me to mention it and I'm sorry for confusing you.

Also I'm used to searching for fanart via Gelbooru, which really does have a lot of safe-for-work content but to be fair you usually have to sift through mountains of not-safe-for-work content to find it. It bothers me that there was absolutely nothing on Etrian Odyssey on Gelbooru last I checked though.

There's a decent amount, though too much of it is NWS; I had to sift through all that cruft just to get to the ones I use for several avatars and signatures (not much, I only pulled out something like 80 or so).  Try the Japanese name tag, sekaiju_no_meikyuu (Sekaiju no Meikyuu or Labyrinth of the World Tree/Yggdrasil).  I could also upload the ones I found, if you wish, but none of it is credited since places like Gelbooru and Shuushuu are repositories. 

My favourite was definitely EO3 as well, though I'm thinking 4 might go a decent ways to supplant it.  The addition of new bench skills that let you gain EXP for inactive characters lets you maintain a more dynamic team without as much grinding, the sea levels and sea quest bosses add an interesting change of pace with a nostalgic selection of enemies (several of the high-end bosses being from EO1 and 2, I'm pretty sure), and the modification to the level cap system (10 levels per dragon, instead of only 1 level per retirement) is a lot better than the earlier games.  It's a little easier to break due to the subclass system, but that's not a terrible thing, since you can just not use the absolute breakers.

I think EO3 had "get exp while on the bench" skills too, they're just in a seperate tab that they do a good job of hiding away, hit y while assigning skill points, "Combat Study".

But yeah EO4 is looking great and if I had a 3DS I'd be all over it. Inparticular I'm curious about the overworld mechanic.

I had to use the Japanese name tag just to find the eight wallpapers I now have for this series. I figured this out after searching for "medic" and seeing some wallpaper of the Medic from Etrian Odyssey pop up with that tag. Of course I had to sift through the completely unrelated medic pictures to find them, but at least I found them.

It did.  That's why I liked it.  Sorry, my description was ambiguous; I was describing why I liked 3 more than 2.  4 is going to have airships instead of ships, but if it's similar to EO3, I think I'll like it as well.

Ohhh, I see, I misread that, sorry, I've got a tendency to skim.

Also backing that etrian odyssey has some pretty amazing fanart if you're willing to brave the typical internet fare. Might have to dig some up at some point.

Been pulling up to Narmer in EO3 after restarting for like the third time, been rolling with a Pirate Hoplite Monk(Offensively built, even if there's a lot better choices for such things I've always liked bare hand stuff)/Princess, Ninja. I've got a Gladiator and healing monk I swap in and out as nessecery/when I feel like a changeup, and I have to say, first time I've made heavy use of binds (mostly via arm breaker on the gladiator) and I'm very impressed with them, I've been a fool to ignore them for so long.

Got down to the third stratum in EO3 on my previous file, after restarting for some reason, we'll see if binds help that out any. I'd imagine the "midboss" in the third stratum will be made a lot easier with binds, those guys tore me up last time.

It's frustratingly difficult to find any reliable info about EO3 classes and skill builds. Probably because there's 121 different class combinations.

Anyways, I tried to come up with a main party that a)doesn't have duplicate main classes; b)doesn't have duplicate sub classes; c) doesn't have Yggdroids (well I guess I could use their high stats and put their SP into their subclass, but I don't think they're worth only having half the skills available).

Spoiler: So what I came up with (click to show/hide)
Z/G:
Standard fare. Charge, Meteor, BAM. Wolf Howl for additional damage. Avenger for just in case, but I guess I could move the non-needed points elsewhere. They'll be standing in the front row, but who cares.
Stars just in case. Going to have a few specialized backup Zodiacs just for bosses with nasty elemental attacks.

H/N:
The only thing better than Line Guard and Bodyguard are two Line Guards and Bodyguards. This is why the Z is in the front, so the clone can stand in the back and make better use of Line Guard (although they'll be probably busy using Bodyguard on the other frontliners anyways, those squishy bastards). Vigilance in case I'm tired of fighting an enemy every few steps.

N/Z:
Really just there for Dark Ether every other round. Not sure if I should give them more offensive skills (or which ones, even), or if I should give them Bunshin too for the times where one tank is enough and I just want to go all out with my skills.

P/M:
Less capable healer than a M/P, but I think the better armour makes up for it.

A/B:
Really just took A for Giant Kill (hence no HP Up), although Ambush is useful. Probably going to use them as a melee fighter with Hanging as a secondary attack, that way the N can stand in the back row. But really, this build is the one I'm least sure of.


And of course, I don't know where to put the SP I haven't distributed yet. Especially for the P/M. Any suggestions?

The builds are all fine concepts. I kinda forgot that you didn't want any class overlapping while I was typing this up, as a side note.

H/N: Missing points are probably good in bodyguard or HP Up, alternately if you wanna shuffle around some points, you might put some into Senpuku, because the only thing that's harder to kill then a hoplite is a hoplite that's hard to hit.

N/Z: I would definitely get it either some magic offensive skills for elemental weaknesses/conditional drops/ extreme damage, or some status effect skills like saaay, Fukubari, Makibishi, suikyo (Maybe, I've never used it but it seems useful), because status effects are very powerful, especially poison. Nikudan isn't bad either, although binding legs is one of the weaker binds, it'll be super useful for one post game boss if you intend to do that and I'm sure there are more enemies it'd help on (it lowers evasion and prevents escaping so pasanas at the very least).

(Side note: I'm not sure how ninja intelligence growth is, if it's super bad you might avoid the magic damage skills, I don't think it's too horrible though. Stat info about EO games is surprisingly hard to find)

Also worth noting is that tagen battou is apparently pretty crazy so you might consider using that if you want to branch out into the clone trees.

P/M: I looooooove the royal veil tree, so you might consider putting the extra points into that. You could also max out the buffs you have at 5, and maybe add some into reinforce but that seems kinda eeehhh. You might also strengthen the monk side's healing skills, or get rid of them and focus mostly on buffs and abandon the monk half entirely for something else. Not sure whaaat maybe a wilding or buccaneer. (buccaneer for multihit attacks and various passive attack boosts that don't use MP like lady luck) or wildings for summons.

A/B: You might grab front mortar since your arbalist is gonna be in the front row and from what I hear it hits HARD especially with giant kill. Although that would invalidate pincushion. You might also max lady luck, I've had decent results with it. Iunno if it was worth 10 points but it's not horrid as long as you're not expecting a critical hit every turn. There's a definite noticible boost of crits with it maxed. If you want to stick with melee, I'd get swashbuckling and maybe the chasers. You might also grab gladiator/buccaneer for awesome swashbucklings.

Weeeeell my ninja has 13 Tec, my Zodiac has 17 and the rest has only 10/9. All at level 7. It's decent, I'd say.

HOW DID I MISS THIS THREAD?

Ahem. I love these games. Really, really love. In fact, since I live in Europe I have to import any game that isn't the first. Together with the region lock on the 3DS I'll really be screwed. Anyway, I own EO1 and EO3 and plan to import EO2 at some point. When the reprints come, I'll probably be over them.

My history is pretty much that I semi-randomly bought EO1 one day, came to love it over time, then lost it one day in school. I was at B19F, that I remember. Then my DS broke. And then, I re-bought a DS just to play these games, after transitioning with Touhou Labyrinth. (Also a great, challenging game, for a few different reasons, but it has perhaps the best battle system of any JRPG I've ever played.). I have to admit, it's also because of the music.
Not to mention the class designs. I have a certain something for heroines, especially those who stand on their own legs (and don't require the support or leadership or amateur psychological help of a male lead), so, uh, I'm pretty much doing the all female thing. I personally prefer the classes of EO1/2 though... perhaps it's because they're so basic. EO3's classes are more complex - not a bad thing, but I really like that they're sort-of rehashing the earlier class designs in EO4.
Not to mention, Etrian Odyssey made me realize I love the Mezzer archetype. Perhaps that's why I dislike EO3's classes, there isn't really a clear-cut mezzer (and Wildlings are weird).

And EO3 isn't really any easier to break than EO1 or EO2. Certain single skills in EO1 are broken enough so that my EO1 party only receives single-digit damage from just about everything when properly set up. And EO2, from what I see, has really ridiculous limit breaks and a few overbuffed classes. The main thing, actually, is that it requires some more effort to really break the game in two in EO3. You need to identify the hilariously strong class combinations.
EO4 looks like it actually will be balanced enough, though. The subclasses have really been put on a leash, and the classes don't really look that broken. (Except for Imperial, lol)

Anyway, this is my progress report!

EO1: Facechecking pitfalls in B27F
Party: L/P M/S/H for the postgame. L/P M/A/B, L/P/R M/A, L/P/R M/H before that, chronologically.

EO3: Being woefully underleveled in B13F
Party: Gl.Ar/Sh.Bu/Pr.Mo Fa.Wi/Zo.Ar
I have no idea what it was before that, this party changes approximately twice every floor. If I had stuck with one setup, I'd not have the need to grind right now.
I have no idea how this current setup even works, but it does, somehow.
**** ambushing Big Snakeheads, tho. Just **** them. Responsible for at least ten total party wipes.
