Teleport to the next floor if you mapped it out and better automap alone are fantastic. Neat to see the characters have specific like, non strictly class based skills. Neat stuff.

The grimoire stone system is a real nice addition you can make some pretty sexy setups with it like Delayed Charge -> Charge -> Cross Charge for massive Damage on the Highlander.

There's some pretty cool skills you can get from them-- I got a stone from the 2nd Stratum boss that gives the Hurricane Punch he uses-- bash attack for the entire field with a pretty good chance of stun. And, as far as AoE skills go, it's really cheap. Stuck it on my Caduceus medic since they don't get any multi-target attacks.

Also, I can't believe it took me until the end of the third stratum to notice this, but you can still "retire" the guys in Story, letting you change their professions. I'm strongly considering resetting to my classic Medic/Protector/Survivalist/Hexer/Troubador team... except that'll set me back who-knows-how-many-hours of grinding. And I don't actually know if the old tricks with them still work.

Don't reset the story people to new classes it seems to be bugged and they can't use the weapons with out a grimoire stones or at least it did when I clanged the medic into a dark hunter he still could not use whips.

Huh. I just tried reclassing the medic to dark hunter and he was able to equip a freshly-purchased whip. (Didn't keep any on hand.) L24 DH, equipped with a Wind Whip. Didn't test it out in combat, but it seems to be working fine. No grimoire stone equipped. May have been a one-off kind of bug?

The story medic? If so how odd hmm maybe i'll try again next time I play and see if it was just a one time bug.

Yep, story mode medic. Just to play around with it, I reclassed everybody else to classes that use different weapons and they didn't have a problem either.

Edit: Well that's kind of annoying. Even after finishing story, you can't enlist additional people to your guild. No gathering party. =(

Along with a remake of Radiant Historia and Strange Journey, too.

Heee.  Bam, avatar revert!  Needless to say, I am quite pleased to hear EO5 is finally coming to this side of the pond.  I've been ambivalent towards the remakes and the spin-offs, so another translated main-series game is quite lovely indeed.  Honestly, given that it's been almost a year since it released, I'd actually been slightly concerned. ^_^
Mya~n.

Ooh, also also, I'd entirely forgotten, but the director for EO5 was actually the same who did EO2 and 3, so while I avoided pretty much most conversation about plot or gameplay (even classes, beyond the detail of multiple races, and you know, totally excepting the music as anyone who remembers me squeeing all over IRC months back would know), I do have unusually high expectations for this game.

Haveing played both versions of 2 I can say it is a major improvement.
I beat 2 untold with a lands, ronin, sovereign, alchemist, hexer party. It was fun to not hace a protector or medic.
The food mechanics in 2 are pretty great.

I still like 3 the best though.

Ah, Etrian Odyssey battle themes. Ever since EO4's wonderful soundtrack graced my ears I have been eagerly anticipating the fifth mainline game. I'm still relatively new to the series, but I'm super excited to play it after it gets localized.

Second of all. You have room for more then one party. Use it. You will need at least 3 parties, an "explorer group" that will go through generic enemies, this will generally be your first party, a cash raising party (5 survivalists with all the gathering skills/5 farmers with harvestry/various encounter reducing skills), and a boss/FOE killing party.
Shit. So that's what I was doing wrong when I was playing through EO1/2/3. I would just make one of each character and run through the game with 5 characters.

Eh, I only ever used main party and gather party. Generally an explore team should be boss kill capable.
