Kill, Escape, Restart OOC thread
« on: December 09, 2012, 05:23:58 pm »

Since you lot have tons of questions (and I don't mind since this is my first non-minimalist RTD) please ask them here.

The actual RTD is here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=120203.0

No questions for now, so PTW

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.

Well, I asked it earlier but you didn't exactly give me an answer.  Well, you did, but I've never read the book you mentioned, so here goes:
Are there any laws programmed into robots?  If so, what are they?
Spoiler: Asimov's Three (click to show/hide)

I'm no gun-nut, but I do know that suppressors won't really do much.  Guns are always gonna be loud, you can't change that.

But a suppressor limits the range the sound can be heard at.

Besides which an M16 normally you'd hear it maybe 5 city blocks without the sound of cars and people to mask it.
With a suppressor you'd hear it for around 25 meters tops if you had seriously good hearing.

Big difference.

Nah, they're zombies, so they'll manage to find us and come after us anyway. I figure that we should just stick with our side arms as long as possible. With as many people as we have, we should be able to semi-reliably pick off stragglers quickly enough.

I know about Asimov and his three laws. Heinlein is my favorite sci-fi author. Anyway, the three laws are good in the case of self-aware robots. However, take MIR07XP. It's a military bot designed for killing. It is also not self-aware. Thus, Asimov's laws do not apply. For charlie, there is a modified version of the 1st law which is Robots can not harm a human that is a neutral or ally. Otherwise Charlie couldn't fight human aggressors or arguably zombies

I agree with mesor on this point. However suppressors probably have a side effect besides muffling the weapon.

Suppressors will wear out. Try using one on a high-caliber weapon; - It's going to screw up fast. That's why they're generally used for softer firearms, such as the Glock line, instead of gas-powered ones like the Desert Eagle, or magnums. Then again, I don't know much about guns, so...

If your keeping it accurate.

Knock off about 1/4 of the weapons effective range and anything beyond that it's unlikely to penetrate armor, 25% further and it won't penetrate bone.

But for within assault rifle standard range it's still nice and lethal without being heard by 10000 zombies every time I fire the weapon.

Hence I have 2 suppressed pistols for extreme close range.
A suppressed Sub machine gun for close to medium.
A suppressed assault rifle for medium to long.
And 4x knives ( thanks to the additional 2 we all begin with. ) if it's to close to use a gun.

I'm gonna find some more for the two ninjas though or they are stuck with extreme close range.

Using any weapons that are not suppressed is last resort only unless we want to be mobbed.

Yea....... thats why you've all got a standard 9mm suppressed pistols and why I took 2 pistols a sub machine gun and a rifle that I've used and know a suppressor is effective on.

I'll try to find you all some suppressed weapons as we go we're probably gonna need them.

what do you mean abstracted? do you mean how do I determine how much ammo we have? Good question. lets have everyone have a certain starting number of clips, and then the amount of ammo you wasted is determined by a die roll I guess.

MIR07XP takes orders from everyone in the squad. If mesor gives him an order, he'll do that first. Charlie will do whatever thecard has him do.

Hmm I could set out an order based on peoples skills and back story information.

But the NPC basically we out rank them all, I out rank everybody.
So if you and I both give an order they'll obey me.

Beyond that unless you think I'm gonna need to order players to do things or to not do suicidal stupid things common sense should be enough.
Like right now it's common sense that you all use your suppressed weapons and we only fire if we have to.
