okay, dumb question but the wiki didn't have much advice on getting rid of them and searching the forum only found batmen, so help!

i was messing around with something else while the game was running when all of a sudden i noticed my farmers were surrounded by frantically moving dots.  "flies?!" i thought, and hit my k-button to investigate. no, not flies i see, but bats!  "now where did those come from... and how do i get them to go away?!" came next.

any suggestions?  i'm trying to build some animal traps - do i have to bait them?  too bad i haven't got any cats (i didn't say that!)

Some maps just seem to have bats that show up every now and then.

You don't need to get rid of them, they don't hurt anything and they will go away eventually. If you really want to though, you can buy a cat or 2 from the human traders and they will make quick work of them.

Otherwise I don't think animal traps will work because more bats will just spawn - the cats will automatically kill them but you will have to set new animal traps and use up even more meat baiting them which is just a pain in the rear.

thanks.  almost as soon as i posted the dumb things just disappeared all at once.  who knows, maybe it's daytime now and they're all hanging from the ceiling where i can't see them.     if they're no more trouble than that i'll leave off getting a cat - the dwarves didn't seem to mind the things (even the one who hates bats, hmm) and a cat would just leave corpses that nobody would pick up until they gagged.
