Alright. Here is the updated list:

I will of course add and flesh out locations in-game.
So, next phase. Don't worry, it's the last one before the game starts "proper". It also may appeal to you a little more.

III. Character Creation

Okay, get some ideas for characters together. Almost everything works.
But before we get into that, we have to make a tiny decision that will influence the style of our game: The aptly-named Power Level.
Here are your options, pick one:
Quote from: Power Levels
Feet in the Water: Your characters are a little above-average dudes and dudettes, maybe with a few supernatural enhancements. If you go after something big, be sure to pack the right equipment, pray to your god of choice and use every unfair advantage you can get.
Very compatible with the Lovecraftian feeling we are building here.

Up to Your Waist: Your characters are known in their respective fields... if there is a field for what they do. You have a little more options in chargen. If something really big is after you, you stand a chance, but certainly not alone.
Horror is possible, but the characters also have a lot of direct influence. I vote for this, but I am easily swayed.

Chest-Deep: You start out pretty powerful, and only a few upgrades away from being a superhero. With a little min-maxing, you are already a super hero. Full Casters become a viable choice.
Nice and Dresdenly, but Horror is getting harder if you have characters who can routinely scry, summon stuff and call fire from the heavens. Just saying.

Submerged: You start out as a major player and become a demigod along the way. There are a lot of things out there that can challenge you, but most of them are beyond human comprehension.

I like the sound of Feet in the Water but I never see the system and you two who know the system say Up to Your Waist so I'll go with that.

It doesn't really matter in a suggestion game anyway because you're reading the narrative, not metagaming. I'm up for both.

Up To Your Waist it is! Sorry if I didn't wait long enough, but I want to keep things moving.

Now to the characters. I need some components for those... besides a name and a tiny little backstory, of course.

A Template, a High Concept and a Trouble.
The Template is the 'Class' of our characters. Since Templates are pretty modular there are lots of options, but I will take care of that. At Up to Your Waist we can choose from the following templates:
Quote from: Templates
Pure Mortal - your standard human. Gets more Fate Points than anybody else. That's free will, bitches!
True Believer- a person very devouted to their faith. They get a few special powers... as long as they are following their codex.
Minor Talent- they have a special knack. A trick. A gimmick, if you want so. One thing, maybe two. Supernatural things.
Focused Practitioner- a small time magic-user. Maybe a Pyromant or a summoner of ghosts. Limited in some ways, but powerful in others.
Red Court Infected- something... happened to you, and now you hunger for blood. Don't give in. Never give in. You get some standard supernatural powers out of the deal, like super strength or speed.
Emissary of Power- did you think of something that doesn't fit elsewhere? we can put it here. This template is basically freestyle. ARTIFACTS FOR EVERYBODY

The High Concept is the essence of a character put into one phrase. Be literal. A high concept might be Triggerhappy Ex-detective or Pyromant on the Run.
The Trouble is a problem a character has. A big problem. Like Drunk Before Noon or The Mob Is After Me.

The other Aspects- an important mechanic in FATE- I will extract from what small piece of backstory you might deliver.

EDIT: Clarified a little

Name: Alfred Pears
Gender: Male
Backstory: Alfred Pears was originally from the chaotic NYC borough of Manhattan. He'd always had family trouble, whether it was evil inlaws, crooked aunts or a homicidal wife. You know, maybe that's why he took that job in the first place. The power to hunt down the very people he was surrounded by.

One scandal too many, though, and he lost his badge, his wife and his New York life. A mysterious work call sent him to this small New England mining town, though, and Lord knows he needs a job now. Of course, his wife's probation officer says she can't keep her nosy 15 year old girl Audrey Pearson, so guess who's got to bring her along?

This is going to be an interesting job.
1) Template: Pure Mortal. Compels and bonuses every day!
2) High Concept: Washed-up Ex-cop
3) Trouble: Clingy Teenage Daughter

Now he got a possible evil book he can't get rid of and he found out his ex-girlfriend is rather good at knife throwing.
1) Template: Focused Practitioner(Diablery).
2) High Concept: Nosy bookworm.
3) Trouble: Late dues yandere ex-girlfriend.

Don't be shy to include a little more info...names, backstory, etc.
A character is more than his aspects. Sorry if I was unclear on that.

The rule book lists Pyromancers, Kinetomacers, Ectomancer and Alchemists as examples, and there are more in the Magic chapter. Almost everything is possible with a little fluff. I would propose making him a summoner of some sort, given his book worm aspect. Demons(Diablery) would be a lot more fun than Ghosts(Ectomancy), but maybe too far on the dark side.

Edited sheet with proper bio. Sorry if there's too many specifics in there.
Looks fine to me!

There is a Power that might allow this, which would make Daniel a Minor Talent. FP would work too, for a little more fate refresh, I guess. I will look into that.

Diablery? Would that make us basically Binder from Small favor turn coat? If so, that might be cool. Alchemist also sounds good. As for background, how about we couldn't find a job after college, and decided to check out this weird town we used in a term paper.

EDIT- wrong books, sorry
