((I was planning on killing the vampire...))
--------------------------------------------
Mirei's log
5th of Limestone
A thief has been discovered by a kitten!
He promptly gets mauled by the wardogs.
--------------------------------------------
9th of Limestone

The dining hall was not as packed as one would expect. There was a scattering of dwarves here, and there.
Most of the dwarves were at a party hosted by Udib, the siege engineer.

Due to the lack of dwarves, silence was abundant. The majority conversations were in low tones.
None of that mattered to Dobar; she wasn't one for talking anyway.

Her surprise was great, when Mirei, the bookkeeper, approached her with a smile on her face.
The younger dwarf said "Hello!" in a very bright manner.

Dobar looked around to see if there was anyone else Mirei could be saying that to.
No, none of other dwarves were close enough.

"How are you doing, Dobar?" Mirei asked cheerfully.

"Umm... Fine?" stammered Dobar.
After all, she does have difficulty with words, and language.

"Do you have anything to do?"

"Well... There isn't much fish to clean, or lye to be made."

"So you're free then?"

"I guess yes."

An empty silence followed. That's when she noticed it; all of other conversation has stopped.
Dobar tried her best to ignore the stares of the other dwarves.

"Come with me," Mirei finally said, "I have something I want to show you something."

Mirei began to tug on Dobar's arm.
Giving in, Dobar let Mirei lead her out of the dining hall.
She notes the strange look Artimaus gives her as they leave.

The hallway has even fewer dwarves. The dwarves briefly stare at Mirei holding Dobar's arm, then promptly look away.

This doesn't seem to have any effect on Mirei, because she continues to lead Dobar without pause.

They end up in Mirei's tomb. It is bare except for one rock coffin.

Mirei continues to tug on Dobar's arm, as she walks to one corner of the room.

"I've dug out this secret chamber, come and see!" She says.

Why me? Dobar wonders.

The chamber is more of a hallway. Which is more barer than the tomb, with only one lever.
The hallway is a dead-end.

Dobar walks to the lever, and examine it.

She turns to ask Mirei, but was violently shoved in the direction of the dead-end.
Dobar is not of slow reflex, because she manages wrestle the copper pick out of Mirei's hand before hitting the wall.

When she got up however, there was no way out. She was completely boxed in!

"Mirei, what's the meaning of this?!" yelled Dobar.

"Did you really think we forgot about Ilral Kolzanos?" came the reply, "or did you honestly believe we're clueless as to who's the culprit?"'

Damn... They know...

"No problem, I'll just dig my wa-"

"I rigged that room so that if you break one wall, you will be impaled. Try it, I dare you."

Dobar screamed in frustration. How could she have been so careless? How is it that she did not see this coming?

Worst of all, she would be trapped for years; if not an eternity...

((The lever activates the trap.))

Mirei smiled grimly; as much as she wanted, she could not bring herself to kill the vampire.
Needless to say, the vampire was dealt with.

When the dwarves asked Mirei of Dobar's disappearance. They simply got "After I showed her something, she said she was going to surface for a bit..."

--------------------------------------------

Mirei's log.
The vampire has been dealt with.
The humans have also left.

I was planning on killing the vampire...

You could do the other option when it comes to vampires...

Get some of their blood in the cistern and halt all booze production. within a season, you have a fort that is immortal (but one whose physical attributes are SET!, so be careful of the millitary).

Option 3 is to kill the vampire, but that is no fun...

Excellent writeup by the way

I must make a note to buy some cats from traders at the next opportunity and see if I can chain up a breeding pair someplace clean. Having kittens wandering the hallways will be a good way of identifying patches of paralytic poison that still need to be taken care of.

Excellently written, a good read.
Maybe the Vampire will come in handy for some "creative solutions" if such a time arises, since the name 'Dobar' is a dastardly vampire alias maybe we should give her a nickname, ideas anyone?

I have a problem.
When I loaded the save, the month was Sandstone...
Anyone have any idea as to why this is?

Edit: I'm trying to re-catch up but uh...

Whaaa? Did you save anytime in Sandstone previously? I've had it revert to a previous save randomly once or twice.

Oh Armok, Javier! What have you done?! You KNOW that we're supposed to use ELF blood in our sacrifices, not ANIMAL blood. I know they smell the same, but COME ON!

I'm sorry, but the evident lack of elves and elf blood has forced me to sacrifice some
Musk oxen blood barrels instead.

Three ambushes has been spotted. One of which is led by the Goblin general Bax...

The ambushing of Mirrorfreezes, Hematite of 553

Luck was not on Hostergaard's side this day. He tripped as he ran back into the fortress; when he stood up, he realized three goblin lashers surrounded him.

"Easy kill." One of them sneered.

Hostergaard began backing up to the bridge. His eyes never left the goblins in front of him; some had been captured by the traps, including their general. But more were still free, and were making their way towards him.

He knew he couldn't make it inside even if he ran. If he was going to die, he was taking one of them with him.

Suddenly a voice behind him called out, "Duck!"

Hostergaard did as told. The moment he hit the ground; a volley of bolts sailed over him, and hit the goblins. He stole a glance at his aid.

The voice belonged to none other than the Sheriff himself, Javier; with him was Rendell, and the entire militia. "We dwarves do not abandon our kin." Javier said grimly as he reloaded his crossbow, "Stand firm, brother."

"Attack!" Rendell ordered as he began charging; the militia followed suit, while the markdwarfs unleashed another volley.

The closest lasher was struck down by the former Overseer; while Oranos began fighting the other. The third lasher was turned into pincushion by the markdwarfs.

Their allies were briefly shocked, but quickly gathered their wits. With warcries, they entered the fray.

Oranos made a slash at the lasher. The blow found it's mark as it tears through muscle, and liver. A swordsgoblin tries to support his comrade, and attacks Oranos. The attack is easily dodged. As the fight carries on, the lasher is slain. The swordsgoblin learns that Oranos' skill is far greater than his, a lesson learnt too late...

Rendell's unconventional methods of fighting proves useful against the goblins; a kick to a swordgoblin's eye proved fruitful, as it allowed a follow-up hack at the goblin's nose. The goblin is overwhelmed by the amount of attacks Rendell is dishing out. With each blow, the goblin loses more parts...

Javier turned just in time to see a lasher strike down Obok, a fellow marksdwarf. Consumed with anger, he charges the goblin. However none of his attacks lands. The goblin on the other hand succeeds in breaking a few of Javier's bones.  Javier's luck turn for the better as a *muskox bone bolt* strikes the goblin in the knee, causing him to fall over. His blows began to land, as Javier pummeled the goblin into the snow. Oranos, Randell, and some speardwarf aided in mutilating the goblin. Rendell finally ended his suffering with a blow to his spine, but not before saying, "This is for Obok Febothil!"

It seems victory was at hand, but it was not the truth. "Javier, can you still shoot?" Oranos asked.

"Yes, of course. Why?" Javier replied.

Oranos pointed to the north-east, where a group of crossbowgoblins were slowly making their way to the fort.

"I'll man the fortifications with the rest of the marksdwarfs."

There was only two marksdwarfs left. Glloyd, and Javier. Hostergaard had passed out, and was taken to the hospital.

Javier found Uzol, the third marksdwarf, lying dead in the snow; blood dripped from his skull. There would be time to mourn later.

"Glloyd, come with me."

"Slight problem... I'm out of ammo." Glloyd responded.

Javier sighed. He ignored the remark, and ran up to the fortifications. Here we go again. He thought. He was very surprised when the goblins turned tail, and ran.

Oranos was wrong. The goblins were fleeing, not attacking. The battle was won, but not without a cost; Two dwarves lied dead in the snow.

Praise the militia!

((No siege hurray!))

4th of Moonstone
It would seems during the battle, a baby was stolen. Woe to the parents.
Though honestly, I think the baby has a better chance of survival with the goblins than this hellhole. Scratch that, this isn't a hellhole, it's hell frozen over.

5th of Obsidian
I had the Goblin general chained in my room simply because why not? Besides I want her to be my thrall. In the event of my death, I request that she is killed.

Spring has arrived. I now step down.

Journal of Oranos:Swordsdwarf

my first battle and all the training has payed off i lived and got to kill goblin's what i call a good days work.

we won the battle but we lost some dwarf i pray they are in a better place now.

one thing we need to get more bolts made for the marksdwarf that battle could have ended very badly if thous yellow goblin's had not broke when they did and we defiantly could use more traps to thin the enemy out if they ever attack in force.
