I was browsing kickstarter and found this project which looked promising:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1317934609/forsaken-fortress?ref=category

a survival game, where you command a group of survivors, managing their fort and expanding using the resources scavenged from missions.

Scavenging missions, base defense and fort construction are all playable and part of a larger, persistent game world, it seems, so it reminds me a bit of the old xcom but with zombies.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1317934609/forsaken-fortress/posts/359143

The idea is neat: persistent world, with other factions roaming around and 'resources' to be scavenged, with the possibility of encountering and maybe also assaulting other factions, plus campaign missions that bring the world forward.

what do you think? anyone has ever heard of the game or that studio?

yeah, and differently from the other 1000s games like that, this one is single player. at least it seems so

this update post explains a lot more in detail the idea behind the game world.

I liked immediately that they have demonstrable gameplay. It's a little rough looking, and I"m not sure I like the aesthetic in all places (nothing like hot anime-esqe females in a post-apocalyptic setting.) But I'm interested. May back this if it gets down to the wire and still needs help.

it seems pretty solid but they are using unity so its hard to tell, it's really easy to script the basic and really hard to build up the rest, and I don't know how much of what they showed was standard unity asset/codes.

(as per the other kickstarter, I exercise a lot more caution than, say, alpha founding)

I thought post-apocalyptic settings ONLY had hot anime-esque women left. They're the ones people save!

It is pretty importabt to have hot woman to be saved, or nobody would get anything done

Sounds interesting. I'll have to check this out when I'm not at work.

Looks promising. The fact they have gameplay footage is very encouraging too, like they're actually taking it seriously. Definitely keeping an eye on this.

Art style isn't great but the concept seems awesome.

This just keeps looking better and better. Their pledge goal is only 100 grand. I've seen games promise and provide far less but demand somewhere in the millions.

The more I look at this, the more I like. Possibly because the basic concept is so similar to Dwarf Fortress.

The character system especially. Take a look at the level of detail they're aiming for.

Ah, what the heck. I just convinced myself - throwing money their way. Fortress builder games should be encouraged.
