So... what exactly is the problem with raining dwarf blood?
« on: December 05, 2012, 10:55:52 pm »

I've embarked in a terrifying biome, but rather than flying unkillable zombie things, there's normal creatures and, well, it's actually snowing frozen dwarf blood.

The dwarves are hiding down in the first caverns, tunnelling towards a magma layer, but there's normal, non-undead animals happily grazing on the surface, in the drifts of frozen dwarf blood.

Is it harmless, or will, upon the first death, various skins and organs rise up and start killing dwarves?

Weather in terrifying places have randomly generated effects if I recall correctly. So it might do nothing, or it might melt your face off, only one way to find out.

Blood rain doesn't usually have syndromes, at least I've never encountered one with syndromes, but it can makes dwarves that go out into it unhappy if you don't have happy thoughts to counter it, due to being caught in freakish weather.

Reanimating biomes usually have zombie wildlife, but the only way to tell is to kill something and watch the corpse.  Reanimating zombies and syndrome clouds that can induce husks are the usual fort-enders in Evil biomes, so you may have lucked out and your biome only rolled the blood rain, or maybe next month an evil ash cloud will roll in and huskify all in its path.  You just have to wait and see.

Thanks - turns out half the map is terrifying tundra and the other half serene wilderness.

I was hoping for zombie unicorns but seem to have nothing out of the ordinary. Oh, well...

There's a problem?

Well, if you're running some mods that add diseases that spread by blood contact, it could be bad.

There doesn't seem to be a problem with blood rain in my experience. As far as evil biomes go, it's pretty good. Once I even embarked on a volcano with elf blood as snow, truly it was a place blessed by Armok.

If it really is dwarf blood, it should be full of alcohol.  ;)

Dwarves get an unhappy thought from it. Well, an unhappier thought. Dwarves seem to be mildly more annoyed that blood is pouring from the skies instead of the usual not-booze.

Worst type of rain I had was acid rain, and my dworfs died after running back and forth from the caravan.

Just how do they even identify exactly what kind of blood it is thats raining down on them, anyway? I mean, I'm sure I could recognise the red stuff as blood, but I wouldn't be able to tell human from dog from lizard without a biology lab.

!!Science!!: Knowledge through magma

There's safe. Then there's unsafe. And then there's the average dwarf fort, which remains unrated because the OSHA inspector flatly refused to go anywhere within a dozen miles of the place.

Stick your tongue out, and compare the taste with other types of blood. It's the sole reason the humans bring barrels of blood to Dwarven settlements.
