Materials list for aquifer.cmv construction project?
« on: November 21, 2007, 08:47:00 pm »

Regarding this aquifer project: Piercing aquifer using only wooden parts.

I've been watching that (really cool engineering project) movie and I think I understand what's going on. I counted 25 pumps, which is, of course 25 each of wooden block, pipe section(two logs each?) and enormous corkscrew (also two logs each?). Then four waterwheels and a 1x3 axle. And then 16 logs for walling in the 3x3 stairs on the aquifer level. If I'm estimating right, that's 125 logs for the pumps. 12 more for the waterwheel, 1 for the axle(?) and then the 16 for the wall, for a total of 154.

Did I count right?

I just watched this movie, and I like! However, your count is slightly off. There are 6 pumps on two of the sides, which means 2 more pipes and logs. I havent yet played around with pums, so I can't tell you how many each they take to build.

Yeah, your count is off, 25 pumps (5 on the north, 6 on the east south and west, 2 in the waterwheel room) each pump needs a block (1 wood) a corkscrew (1 wood) and a pipe (1 wood), Totaling 75 wood. Four waterwheels, 12 wood there; along with the axle, 1 wood for that. Now, the rewalls need a total of 16 wood in this example.

So in total thats 104 pieces of wood.

Nice, great for the high traffic fort, although I find it's a lot cheaper for a 1 by 1 pierce-through. Unfortunately, 1 by 1 could end up with traffic problems if you use it as a main entrance.

Thanks for the correction on the pump materials.

I did a 2x2 version which worked beautifully but then found that the aquifer was (at least) two layers deep. I haven't tried to dig out the space for another pump array yet. Do you think the first pump array will be able to keep up?
