Red Rogue anyone?

Very surprised not to see a thread about this already...

http://www.redrogue.net/

It's a platforming take on roguelikes, and a spiritual sequel to the original Rogue.

You play the original rogue's wife, traversing the dungeons to avenge your fallen husband - who just happens to follow you around as a skeletal familiar.

I'm absolutely loving this right now, after a bit of a 300+ hour Dark Souls burnout.

I played and played but had no idea there was a story.

It's a very fun game.

Very odd game, but rather interesting in its own way.
Rather strange is that if minion get exploded, you can fetch his head and wear it on your face.

I'm not sure if there's a way to get the minion back to work as it dies rather quickly usually before reaching Sewer (the world that comes after a few levels of Dungeon)

Note : on the 1st floor of Dungeon, there's a door to get out of there but it does not end the game as in classic roguelikes, it lead into Overworld.
In there you can find a heart on a side and some kind of wheel on the other side. Hit the heart to refill your health and hit the wheel to grind XP and level up.
Do this at least once, as when you level up you move up in the air floating, press the key to move to the right while you're falling down again so you are able to get to the chest on the platform above that wheel.

Good tactic is to be on a platform above an enemy and drop on him, it will stun the enemy and you can attack following this.

I've never had the minion drop his face,  though I've had lots of other creatures do that.  You'll get an ability from some creatures faces - trolls restore HP slowly, some creature allows a sort of ESP enemy location, a wraith's face will allow you to walk through walls...

Whenever my minion has died he always seems to come back a short what level later,  some I message an enemies death is counted as a sacrifice which will restore him.

I do like the "persistence"  of the the over/underworld...  You can stash weapons and other items if you have some spare and they'll stay there for your inevitable death. I've also somehow unlocked a shortcut to the sewer from the overworld so when I start a new game I can go straight down there. Not the best idea without any decent gear though.

Interesting, will have to try harder to get the minion back online.
Got a run in which i met in the sewer a monster named ... "the bitch"

That properly killed both the minion and the player in a few seconds.
Quote
descended to level 6
"so weak, but not dead"
rogue picked up knife
rogue picked up knife
kobold punished by rogue
the bitch stole knife
the minion smashed by the bitch
the bitch stole + gauntlet
the bitch stole + flies
"so weak, but not dead"
rogue finished by the bitch

Rather odd to have "flies" equipped as an armor :)

Found a strange device (the same that opened a portal back to Overworld in the Sewer in a previous game, nice that as SquidgyB said it's persistent through games) that had the rng giving me an additional  quest (the main quest being the amulet of yore as usual) in which i had to kill a specific kobold or goblin on the level i was in, did it and

I'm not sure if it had any effect.

Alright, so I found something. Those odd markers on the wall? Shrines to the RNG, apparently. I used one and it opened a underworld portal, restoring my minion.

The RNG just turned me into some sort of headless creature.

"Restore my minion," he said.

Also, anyone who gets a rune of heal should enchant their armor with it. More runes increase the auto-heal rate.

There's an auto-heal rate?n I thought the only way to heal was hearts or sleep.

Unless you're wearing something heal-enchanted, those are the only ways.

On the other hand, I just prayed and rolled triple minion. Three husbands? Well, this is awkward. Then again, rouges did a LOT of dying.

this game is pretty awesome, I especially love that if you identify things, they lore information carries over to the next play.  Eventually building a repository of what everything does.

Anyone have any practical use for masks?  It seems that almost all of the masks you get are weaker then the base rogue, until past depth 12 or so.

I sleep, red text. He comes. I don't even. Anyone else experience this? Probably just because I'm sleeping too much, though. Really need to find a rune of heal.

that gets really commen at lower levels.  and 'he comes' is supposed to spawn a ghost thing that drains your health.  you will see it a LOT in lower levels.
