New guy in town, DF beginner
« on: December 04, 2012, 04:38:53 pm »

Hey guys, my name is shinyarceus4. You may recognize me around other websites and forums. I'm a gamer with varied tastes, and recently got hooked on Dwarf Fortress, this website's flagship game. With a good tutorial, I was able to manage the basics. I'll be sure to have fun too! Hope for a warm welcome from the community!

Hello Shinyarceus4!

Welcome to this great game and community. You will find that you will never be able to leave this game again, it is just too great!

Anyhow, as you probably have already noticed, people here will usually try to be as helpful as possible (due to the great challenge even basic gameplay puts in front of people ?), so feel free to ask if you have any questions. And I hope you can also find some time to read and participate in all the interesting threads we have here on the forums, about ideas and experiences surrounding this game.

Talkatively Yours,
Deathworks

Welcome to da club, buddy!

DF can be very challenging to learn, but every failed fortress is an experience and you build up on that. Feel free to ask any questions, because you are going to end up with a shitload of question marks at the end of your first real fortress.

Have fun and kill some elves!

(due to the great challenge even basic gameplay puts in front of people ?)
And the fact that we know that the less time Toady has to spend moderating the forums the more time he has to spend developing the game. :P

Also welcome to the world of DF! Remember that if you have any questions feel free to ask them over in the DF Gameplay Questions Board, where they will usually be answered fairly promptly by myself or others.

Also you say you've already mastered the basics but just in case you might want to consider checking these out as well.
DF wiki (the wiki, duh)
The Lazy Newb Pack (can handle early graphics and init setting rather easily, as well as a few other utilities)
DFTherapist (an essential tool in managing larger fortresses)
DFHack (a little bit more complicated to use, but can really change things in the game as well as fixing several bugs)

Also if you ever get bored with vanilla DF be sure to check out the modding board, where myself and many other modders share our various mods and other content. :)

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Guess he didn't find us via the story of Boatmurdered.  He wouldn't dare hope for a warm welcome.  :D

Is it just me, or has there been a lot more new players lately?

Also, do you have any..... oh I dunno..... any skills that could help colonize Mars? If yes, contact my me and your death will be swift if you help. If no, die slowly when we take over the world.

By the way, welcome :p. I greet everyone like this.

Might be news of DF being part of a planned exhibit in the museum of modern art spreading the word around.

Ah. Newcomer, I'm new to the forums as well, been here for about almost a month, but I have played DF since like 09.

What? If he read it, he would be expecting a very warm welcome. Just like the perennial human traders (I think? Which one was burned alive? It certainly wasn't the last one)
