I wouldn't be opposed to a real men's rights movement, looking to deal with some of the issues men face, like custody battles and the like.  I think Vector mentioned once that she expects some kind of men's rights thing to happen when society is more egalitarian for other sexes and genders.  The current "men's rights" movement often feels more like a reaction to what said men perceive as some kind of war on men.

Male rape is very, very common if you count prison rape.  We still have a national perception of prison as punishment or retribution rather than reform though, so it's kind of seen as a joke or not a real issue.

I think you've gotta be a little careful when you start pointing out the other side of things like this.  I see people all the time trying to turn social justice issues into some kind of contest, where people (usually people in the power groups, white, male, etc.) bring up their own group's (legitimate, mind you) issues not as a contribution to the dialog but as an attempt to delegitimize the other group's problems, which is kind of a fucked up thing to do.

Which one do you mean? The Men's Right Movement, which goes by that acronym, or varies forms of men-oriented feminism and masculinism studies?

The former, to me, seems largely reactionary and close-minded in their approach of problems. Their response usually is some form of 'feminists/women did it', which is usually untrue and more often not a useful way to approach the subject. Masculinism studies instead focus on approaching the problem men face from a feminist framework, in the sense that they apply feminist theories to the problem faced by men. This resulted in, among others, the concept of Hegemonic masculinity, which I think is a useful tool to analyze the problems faced by men.

The world was built by men. 99.9% of it at least.

My only real complaint toward "feminism of today" is the name. I'd prefer something like "equalism" or something, so it's clear we're after gender equality. Double standards negatively affect women in 99.9% of cases anyway, and it will more clearly highly the problem with men's rights activists (removing one of their pathetic excuses that feminism only supports women, and give the few valid men's rights issues a more solid place).
This. Keep it logical and consistent.
Gender egalitarianism ≠ feminism ⇔ Gender egalitarianism ≠ masculinism

My position on the topic: We're making way too much of a fuss about this. Feminism has become mainstream; everyone's internalized it ("Stab in a gender neutral way!"). What sexism remains will slowly vanish as the new generation grows up, just like racism (at least tendencially) is on the decline.
That's not to say that feminism has no function today; I just think everyone needs to relax and become a bit less dogmatic.
Remember guys, this isn't the minecraft forums. Y'all are civilized.
Yup, Bay12 standard. Still would appreciate the change to van Beethoven, though ;)

Women have always had life better than men. I really don't get why feminism started in the first place.

This is why we can't have threads like this. No matter how obvious it is that Weegee there is trolling, there are far too many people on this forum who either agree with him, or don't disagree enough to call him out on it. Feminism is more relevant than ever because shit like this still exists.

You have intersting opinions Weegee. I'm sure the Minecraft forums will be fascinated to hear them. HOWEVER, here, you may feel the Wrath of the Toad instead.

Well, most men back then couldn't vote anyway either. Men weren't in power, the rich were.
Queen Elizabeth the first was, obviously, a woman. Strange, how could this happen in the patriarchy?
Men were conscripted, had to work to support their families, and had to pay tax. Women weren't able to vote,
but they didn't get all that shit either.

You do realise that Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarchy and the only public positions available for people to vote into are advisory and local bodies, with very little actual power and outright no power at all to institute national change?
While I don't know much about the subject, yes, I know it's a monarchy. I was answering to:
Let's talk about Saudi Arabia, women are given the first chance to vote already. So, that makes everything fine I suppose.
It's another subject if their vote doesn't carry any power with it.

It's still against the law for a woman in Saudi Arabia to drive or literally do anything in public without the escort or permission of a male family member.
Sure, change takes time. But at least you have power to make the change.

Sorry about the quote mess.

Brah, men are the victim.
Everyone can be a victim, that's not up for debate. The debate is about how society handles victimization, as well as if and how our culture makes certain groups more likely to become victims. Take for example cat-calling, which is described by a lot of people as extremely unpleasant. It's socially acceptable to cat-call a woman (according to society)*, but if a man cat-calls another man he's called gay and a woman cat-calling a man is called a whore. As such, women are at a far-greater risk of becoming victims of cat-calling.
The question then becomes, who is likely to become a victim of what and why? This is not something that can be determined by tossing anecdotes around, especially not if it's a kind of victimization you don't have any experience with.

* I'm using man and woman here to mean 'as seen by society'. A woman who was assigned the male gender at birth and passes as a man in daily life would fall under the male category.
