From the Journal of Kadol Ezumadek, Dwarven Paladin
1st of Granite, 222

It has been two years, two decades, and two centuries since the first dwarf of the Granite Arena, or Lolokuvash in the Old Tongue, struck the earth in our glorious Mountainhome. Since then, we have fought off dragons and titans, elves and goblins; even humans and other dwarves have besieged us from time to time. But we have always held true and steadfast to our ideals and morals; always lived by the Code of our fathers. But our power is waning. Already, many of our ancestral lands are controlled by the dwarves of the Portal of Slaughter. Hordes of goblins pour to our gates nearly every year, and we all know that the cold truce with the humans and elves will not last. Worse, just a few years ago a dark tower sprang out of the earth, and with it came the Legion of Dead. There are those among us who believe that Lolokuvash shall not live to see her third century. But I do not believe that; indeed, I cannot. We will survive; we must. We must be a bastion of hope and prosperity for all to see.

That is why I, Kadol Ezumadek of the Holy Order of Granite, have set forth with six others to strike the earth in the forest north of our lands. We will build a great, towering fortress from which we will crush all those who seek to destroy our lands. Any threat, whether goblin, undead, or human in origin, will have to pass through us first. The tallest mountain will crumble and the deepest ocean will boil, but only the Honor of the Paladin is unbreakable.

**********************************

Hi everyone! Urist McDonald here, about to start a new community fort!

I've noticed that most of the forts on these forums tend to house dwarves of, shall we say... Low moral quality. But everyone knows that dwarves are supposed to be Lawful Good! This fortress will attempt to fix that. What does that mean? Well, I won't be flooding the world with magma, for one. Clearly, an action like that would have terrible moral consequences and would harm innocents; therefore it simply won't be done. Traps, too, are a cowardly way to fight. During sieges, civilians may hide in the depths of the fort behind such dishonorable devices, but the Paladins themselves will do battle on the open field. Only if the last Paladin falls will the traps be called upon. The exception, of course, is the undead. Even a lowly kobold thief or goblin snatcher deserves an honorable death, but the only thing the shambling dead deserve is a swift and final end.

I have embarked next to a necromancer tower, so hopefully I'll get quite a few battles. Same goes for goblins. Eventually, I might even declare war on the humans or elves, depending on how dishonorably they act in trade.

A final restriction I will be placing on myself is that, as a loyal subject of the king, I will be ensuring that the liaison always leaves happy, and that when nobles arrive they will be treated well. I know, pretty unconventional, right?

If you want to be dwarfed, just say so! You don't have to be a Paladin; I'm sure some (most) of the civilians think Kadol Ezumadek is full of it when he talks about honor. Having another perspective could be fun.

Oh jolly good, someone else who suicidely fights with honour with their troops in Dwarf Fortress, leg or limb be damned. (brofist) :D

I shall join you as a fellow Paladin called Fath, good sir, with sword (4), shield (2), weaponsmith (4) if you please.

Please post a screencap of the embark zone though if you would.

Lawful Good fortress means strict obeyance to mandates and demands!
Thus I request a dorf with faithful worship of some epic deity, and that dorf to be promoted to sheriff or hammerer (never assigned a hammerer in my forts, I wonder what do the do...). Pick some migrant for me, if no such worshippers are at the embark team.
Name him/her Peregar.

I would love to have a dorf,
Could he be an axedwarf?
So, (2) Axeskill, (5) Teaching, (3)Dodging.
If you could make me Milita Leader, I would be happy.
I preffer military traits if that is not too much to ask.

(never assigned a hammerer in my forts, I wonder what do the do...).
If someone commits a severe crime, the Hammerer will take a hammer; and hammer them.

As a result, people like to assign weaklings with wooden or (ideally) candy warhammers to the job so your Legendary +5 Weaponsmith is not turned into a smear on the ground from a percieved crime.

Of course, since this is a fort of !!JUSTICE!!, our Hammerer should mete out bloody punishment to criminals regardless of the consequences to the economy.

Requesting dorf please.
Any profession is fine, although I wouldn't mind a paladin dwarf :D.
Nice to see these types of restrictions on.

I never had anything less than a recurring murderer sentenced to hammerstrikes in this version. And since those convictions are up to the player, I say pick the strongest dwarf, give him silver warhammer (or lead/gold/platinum artifact) and train him to Hammer Lord. Vampires deserve to die.

I would appreciate being an architect, but also a marksdwarf. My name is Torkild. My skills can be anything as long as I have architect, all engineering, and masonry turned on, and am a marksdwarf.

Alright, unfortunately I had already embarked when I posted the thread, so I can't give everyone the exact skills they want. In the initial wave there's only one Paladin, too; the reason behind that will be explained in the Spring update which I'll post very soon. For now, here's the list of people to be dwarfed, and those who I already dwarfed.

I AM planning on getting a military and forging operation set up by the end of year one, so none of you should have very long to wait.

To Be Dwarfed:
Fath - Paladin/Swordsdwarf, Weaponsmith
Piranha - Paladin/Hammerdwarf, Armorsmith
Gavakis - Paladin/Axedwarf
Duthnur - Scientist/Medic

Already Dwarfed:
Rendell - Like I said, I don't have any extra Paladins at the moment, but since you asked for a paladin if possible, I'll put you down as one of the miners who will eventually join the Order of Granite. Hope that's OK.
Torkild - Marksdwarf, none of the other skills yet, but will learn rapidly since I embarked without a dwarf trained in any of those disciplines.

I'll make another post in a couple of minutes with the embark screen and pictures of the stats of these dwarves. If you didn't specify a gender, I'm putting you down as whatever is available, by the way. :P

Lack of medical skills is not a concern, just turn them on. Liking to help others is much more important. Also, in the unlikely event that you get 2 or more male dwarves with "likes helping others", I take they one with higher disease resistance.

From the Journal of Kadol Ezumadek, Dwarven Paladin
1st of Granite, 222

It is fitting that we strike the earth on the two hundred and twenty second anniversary of our glorious nation; the First of Granite, all those years ago, was when our nation and my holy order were both founded. This glorious anniversary marks the dawn of a new golden age for the Granite Arena, I firmly believe.

We have finally arrived at the site of our new fortress, which we have decided to name Goldensculpt. Though I petitioned the Grandmaster of our holy Order for two dozen dwarves to start our home, I was informed that because of the war, we are unable to spare that many dwarves for a venture that could very well fail. Instead, I set forth with but half a dozen dwarves at my side, and no other Paladins.

Four of us, including myself, are skilled with a pick. We shall strike the earth and dig deep rapidly; I hope to set up a forge before the goblins or the Legion find us here. Of the other miners, one in particular stood out to me. His name is Rendell, and he has shown that he holds the values our order seeks to uphold throughout the journey. Though he does not do much to help others, I hope I can show him the error of his ways and teach him to become a Paladin, both in combat and conduct. Lords know we need more warriors here.

While I certainly know how to swing a warhammer, I am afraid that just won't be enough when the enemy hordes come in force. The only other warrior among us is Torkid, a retired mercenary marksdwarf who we hired at the last minute. She, too, is a noble soul; perhaps we can use her in our Order. At the moment, though, she tells me that she wishes to cease fighting. Her life as a mercenary is over; she wishes to learn more productive skills, how to build instead of destroy. With none of us knowing much about masonry, carpentry, or architecture, we can certainly use a dwarf who's eager to learn.

I must go now; the wagon is in place and the other miners have readied their picks. Today we strike the earth!

****************************

None of the dwarves I have at the moment actually like helping others :P You should arrive by the end of the year though, I am sure.

From the Journal of Kadol Ezumadek, Dwarven Paladin
5th of Granite, 222

I have ordered the digging of a great spiral staircase leading down into the earth. It seems we are in luck; Just beneath the surface, there is a layer of black sand that will allow us to create a glass industry. Just below that is a layer of fertile soil, filled with the remains of the ancient jungle that filled this land before the current one was formed. This soil layer will be the perfect place to farm. I just got word that the miners have breached an extensive cavern system. Torkild and I are off to seal the breach for now, until we will be ready to brave the caverns.

Between the soil layer and the caverns, we have struck cassiterite, an ore of tin. While not useful by itself, if we find copper we will be able to smelt some bronze.

The miners have struck a second cavern layer. This one is in the way of the Great Staircase; I had to make adjustments in the plans. That's fine, though; the richness of this land more than makes up for it. Already, we have struck iron, gold, silver, copper, tin, and zinc ores. We should have no problem raising our metal industry to the levels we require to defeat the evils of this land.

Speaking of evil, I have begun constructing a rough wall around the entrance to our fort. Torkild is working on a mason's workshop, located above ground for now, where she can create the stone gate we will need. Meanwhile, I must go to seal the second cavern before something deadly slips through.
