Unhappy, Thirsty and Hungry for over 3 Years?
« on: November 30, 2012, 09:59:16 am »

So I've noticed that one my police force members does nothing but patrol or station like I have the squad told to do, but unlike everyone else, she won't eat, sleep or drink. She's gone without food, water and sleep for over 3 years.

Should I be concerned?

Vampire?

If they are, they aren't draining anyone of blood.

Maybe they know what happened to the last vampire I caught...

Station her near a refuse stockpile and see if anything interesting happens.

Possibly a vampire, but I didn't think they actually ever even got the hungry or thirsty indicators on their health screens?

In any case, I'm pretty sure that if you have a vampire in the military and station them or have them on patrol orders, they won't suck blood until they come off duty.  So that sounds to me like what's happening.

Legend tells of a fort besieged by a dragon. When 79 brave recruits fell to its breath, the last dwarf of the fort took up arms. He sprung from his sickbed and claimed an adamant one sword before he bulrushes the dragon. A clean swipe severs the head. But the dragon claws him in the lower body and burns him alive. As he melts into a pile of booze and fat, I rename him Ronnie James Dio and change his profession to dragonslayer. He will forever be immortalized and worshipped as a dragonslayer God.

Vamps don't get hungry, thirsty, or drowsy, if you dwarf is any of these things then she isn't a vampire. Which would make this a bug, but an awesome one.

because everyone here is OCD and ADHD, and then complain when their dwarfs act similarly in game.

It does sound more like a bug to me.  Once I saw soldiers stand around trying to pick up equipment so long they got dehydrated, at which point I gave them a station order and they snapped out of it.

It could be that this dwarf just has a bugged order somehow, and you've been exceptionally lucky in that other dwarves brought them food and drink before they died for years on end.  I've seen dwarves give food and drink to dwarves who weren't imprisoned before, so I would guess that's possible.

Better to ask that question in the mod forum.  But a vampire would make a godawful guard for anything but a choke point.  They move too slowly to respond to anything.

I remember a few ways to mod vamps to make them not suffer from alcohol deprivation. Don't remember the specifics though, but it's been discussed.

The key detail was making dwarf blood induce alcoholism. You'd need to sacrifice one dwarf but after that the vampire would work efficiently like any other dwarf.

Anything which transmits a syndrome that removes the [NO_DRINK] tag will do, although dwarf blood is the most efficient thing since it's possibly the only syndrome-transmitting substance that vampires will seek out automatically. For added fun, make it remove the tags for sleeping (and stunning) and eating just long enough for the vampire to go and do those things and fill up their thoughts screen a little.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
