You have arrived in Vale, a small town of about 50 people. It has a couple apartment buildings and half a dozen houses in one "district," several buildings in the other, and a fair-sized hotel a quarter-mile down the road from the rest. Vale is an out-of-the-way little place, almost forgotten. It has some small specialty farms and a few programmers as the town's main ways of bringing in wealth, along with the natural beauty of the surrounding forest, which brings in almost 500 tourists over an average year.

It's about 7:30. You get out of your car in the hotel parking lot and walk into town. You are in the "commercial" district, which has a town hall, a pub, a general store, a small schoolhouse, a small tech support business, a bank, and a post office. At this time of evening, most people are at home; however, the general store and pub are still open, a hungry-looking dog is sitting by the grocery store, and two identical-looking blonde girls of about 7 are running around, playing tag.

You enter the pub, considering your purpose. It's a nice philosophical question.

The pub is a fairly small one. A middle-aged, scrawny bartender sits behind the bar, near a computer. He is wearing a stained apron over a nice shirt, both with stains from beverages and food on them. There is a pile of what appear to be copies of a sort of menu on the bar. There are five tables, each with three or four chairs. One man is drinking at the bar, while a young couple and their toddler eat sandwiches at the table furthest from him. You seem to have been wrong--this seems to be as much a restaurant as a pub, give or take.
Now that you think of it, you're kinda hungry. You haven't had dinner yet.
