Best Adventurer Training Tips
« on: November 29, 2012, 04:44:31 pm »

Lets start making a list of tricks and tips to rapidly train up adventurers for those who are new to adventure mode.

1)  Swimming is good for agility, strength, endurance and toughness.
2)  Swimming/drowning is much, much better for endurance and toughness.  (Have swimming skill higher than novice, find a bridge and swim under it)
3)  Sneak while swimming/drowning to train agility more.
4)  Find weak woodland critters like rabbits, crows or keas.  Turn off your dodging and lie down next to 2-3.  Lie there until tired/over-extert and move away a square.  Rest and repeat.  Very good for endurance, toughness, agility, kinesthetic sense, spacial sense, and willpower.
5)  Wrestle a bunch of critters.  Its a fun way to torture woodland creatures and train all above attributes.  Even more fun to choke undead critters.

6) Throw stuff at things, even if not in combat.
7) Knap rocks using the 'x' button menu.
8.) Disable a bandit's upper spine and then let him push you around in armour.
9) Stay away from hooved animals
10) F-U, Giant sponge!

11 A single crab when wrestled can give you a Fighting skill of 20,000+. They do not die of suffocation only infection after two or three days of continuous wrestling. Make sure to wear shield, gauntlets and boots, lest you suffer from crippling infection. Armor Use, Shield Use, and Dodge should be ~3,000, well over Legendary. All relevant combat attributes that started at Above Average will be Superhuman. (Hermit crabs are useless though, go for the magenta ones.)

12 Starting an attribute higher than Above Average is a waste of build points, any attribute that starts at Above Average can obtain Superhuman. Diversity allows a greater range of development.

13 Recuperation and Disease Resistance are the only two attributes that need to start at Superior, as they do not improve in game.

14 Observation is hard to improve, it is my personal favorite skill to bias during character generation.

15 Choose either Novice Swordsman (to get shield and sword) or Novice Crossbowman (to get ranged weapon), do not spend any further points on any combat skill except Armor Use (and then this improves quickly anyway).  Fighting, Archery, Wrestling, Shield Use, Dodging, and all weapon skills improve very quickly in non-lethal combat, they are a complete waste of points. Armor Use might be needed to wear shoes and walk at the same time :/

16 Adequate Swimmers still drown. Unless you love grinding Swimming this is a minimum needed to walk through streams.

17 Coins have value, throw them to increase Archery and Throwing. There is no point to them otherwise.

18 Training weapons are the best weapon ever, they will eventually kill your opponent but gain you more valuable weapon skill improvements than a metal weapon.

19 Begin on the coast near a capital. (They are a # on the world map). This way you have access to armour and crabs.

20 Crossbows kill hippopotamuses. They are a great weapon for anyone with <800 speed to hunt with.

21 Arrows are even lethal thrown. Spears are good to carry for strong people.

22 Multiple shields work. Three shields are better than two. Use wood shields where ever possible, as material affects only movement, they all afford the same protection.

23 Where multiple hoods, cloaks, gloves etc. The more armour you wear the quicker the improvement of Armor Use skill.

24 High stealth and a ranged weapon can repeatedly attack fast creatures, even if you speed is only a fraction of theirs you can still injure them enough that they cant flee.

I find the armor skill to be more easily trained than the shield skill.  Just wear any piece of armor, grab a crow(or other weak animal) and let it wail on you for a day (in game  ::))  This pretty much automatically raises your armor and and dodge skills while blocking is improved far less often in my experience due to the low number of times it is actually used.

R-r-resurrection!
I would just like to say that you should also avoid swimming in areas so hot that the water starts boiling. This happened to me once. All of a sudden my adventurer had no skin and bled to death before reaching the shore.

I found a human city named Sleevevirgins. It was easily the biggest city in the world, so clearly I wasn't the first person to come inside the city's walls.

Turn off charging and train Wrestling/biting/kicking/punching weak animals is certainly preferred if you like to skill up those skills, although that seems obvious. Staying away from any animals with horns and big animals with hooves is a must.

Giant sponges can work, although if they are anything like they were when the patch came out then they can actually get a lucky shot once in a while. Getting stunned under water is very dangerous.

Honestly though I usually get the skills I want just for playing. Perhaps the hardest, but certainly the most fun skill is def misc_weapon.

If you're trying to train all your defensive skills up to Legendary, the order in which you grind them is important. If you're a really good dodger, the duck you're wrestling will tend to miss, even when you're on the ground. If you're a good dodger and good with a shield, your armor will almost never get hit, and your Armor User skill will not level fast at all. Therefore, if you're going to be grinding, you should first wrestle a duck fully while fully armored, on the ground, with no shield to train Armor User. Then add the shield and keep wrestling on the ground to train up Shield User. Dodge will be pretty solid at that point, so getting it up the rest of the way won't be difficult.

If you've been wrestling the whole time (i.e., create a macro that grabs and releases the animal you're using, while keeping it firmly gripped with another limb,) you'll probably be a legendary wrestler/fighter at this point too. With your skills/attributes that high, you can basically train whatever weapon you want fighting bogeymen, then go carve a swath of destruction across the world.

I swim up and down the current.  Drowning also increases it fast, but has the unfortunate side effect of possible death.

first drop everything in your inventory and  go to where loam is and spam G and A as fast as you can and count to 100 afterwards then as fast as you can hit T B ENTER in order as fast as you can you should get a very high throwing skill with the stat it raises high
