~The Mist: A Cooperative Fantasy Zombie Survival RPG~

 A terrible cloud of mist, conjured with the darkest of magicks has swept across what was once a peaceful land. Almost everything unfortunate enough to have come in contact with it has wasted away to nothing but a lifeless husk of a man or creature, that longs for nothing more than to feast on the flesh of the living. The plantlife too, has died off - Though fortunately the trees do not have a craving for brains.
 
 There's a bit more to all of this, though you aren't quite ready to uncover it just yet. By happenstance, or maybe even fate, You - part of a group that had no previous ties to one another - had been traveling to the capital by carriage when you caught sight of the mist. Knowing that whatever was causing this thick, mysterious fog to spread so swiftly and violently was not good, you took cover within a nearby cave; sparing yourselves from unknowingly turning into... One of them.
 
 By now the mist has cleared, yet from the lifelessness of the trees, the gloominess of the now dark and cloudy skies, and the dead silence of the surrounding forest, you know that something terrible must have happened and whatever it was - This may only be the beginning...

This is a Cooperative Zombie Survival RPG, taking place in a mostly-traditional fantasy world. The idea had randomly come to mind when I realized that the modern settings seem get all of the zombie apocalypse action.

The goal is obviously to survive, and hopefully - If you can manage it - figure out what caused this to happen, and help return the land to a more livable state for those who survived. Though you can only hope to achieve these goals by working together as a team, and how you go about achieving them is entirely up to you.

Combat takes place on Roguelike-ish ASCII style map, and uses RPG-based mechanics. You choose from a variety of abilities, spells, and actions to attempt to deal with your opponents in a way that doesn't involve the group dying horribly.

Also make sure to keep in mind that this is an RPG. Of course, you don't need to make a great effort to RP out every single thing you do - But try not to just blankly and mechanically make your actions.

And one last thing to keep in mind is that this isn't my only forum game. The other one I run takes priority over this one, so if it takes me a little while to update, that doesn't mean that this is dead! Either I'm spending some quality time with my other game, or I've just randomly disappeared from the forums for a week. (Again)

Goblins have a bad reputation due to the amount of hostile goblin tribes and clans that were running around before the mist swept through their lands. Not all goblins are really bad guys... Well, not all of them are really-bad guys. You still probably shouldn't trust them, even the ones that don't have a thirst for blood are known to have a thirst for gold. This doesn't mean there aren't occasionally good goblins, it just means they're pretty uncommon.

The Orcs are a proud race, that happen to really, really love to fight and wage wars. However this doesn't mean they're evil, or even stupid. Almost all Orcs follow strict codes of honour and other such things, and they're even on par with Humans as far as intelligence goes, so you probably shouldn't go insulting one.
They might just tear you in half.

They use Large Armour/Clothing, they're heavier, take more materials to craft and will probably only be found around Orcish territories. However, their increased size does make for some tougher armour.

Character's Appearance: Aerus has black, shaggy, shoulder length hair kept in a loose ponytail, and hazel eyes. On his left cheek is a tattoo of his tribe's symbol, and under his right eye is three horizontal scars, marking him a huntsman. He stands at 5'8" and typically wears white and light gray clothing made of heavy cloth to match the snowy environment of his homeland. Aerus carries his family's tomahawk and a bow given to him by the village elder.
Short History: Aerus was a member of an ambitious northern tribe known for holding deep political views. Born to a hunting family, he had little, if any political ambition, and spent much of his childhood learning how to use a bow and throwing axe, rather than study. He was quickly given the tribal name "Stardrinker" due to his tendency to daze out during nights to watch the starry sky. When he became a teenager, Aerus was quick to pass the Hunter's Test, and was initiated into that segment of his tribe. The hunters had become tools of the political leaders to better the tribe, and further their goals of joining the kingdom. Aerus was held in high regard for his efficiency and skill as a hunter, but many were above him in both fields, and he was always quick to deny and correct praise given to him when he felt it was not due.
On an unusually warm day in his winter homelands, Aerus was tasked with delivering a collection of the finest furs from recent hunts as gifts to the human capital, and so he set off to the south. The journey was not long for one so familiar with the roads and wilderness as him, but before Aerus could even make it into the city proper, he was forced to drop the furs and run for safety from the mist, eventually finding himself in the cave.

Lightly muscled and very thin.
Short history : Leeroy Hops was caught in a fire 1 year ago and had half his face horribly burned, he had to have one eye removed entirely and the scaring is likely to never heal.
The fact that he set the fire himself just adds irony to the accident.
Leeroy was fortunate in that he had a lot of money already and so once he lost his job he decided to take a round the world trip for a year and has only recently returned home likely leaving half a dozen kids in various countries.

Character's Appearance: Grey skinned, with a scar on his left eye. He wears a long, black coat, with brown boots and gloves, and a hat, along with goggles, to conceal his appearance. He is average height, for a human; tall for a goblin.
Short History: An ex-mercenary from the Band of Hawks, a group of mercenaries operating in the Southlands. He specialized in long-range takedowns, otherwise known as 'sniping', and he was also the Band's hunter.

He quit years ago, after realizing that he'd rather be hunting animals than people; this was disputed by the Band's ringleader. Wendell responded by shooting him in the head, saying that he'd lost faith in money, and left. Ever since, Wendell has pretty much kept a low profile, until the Mist came around. Forced to go out of peaceful retirement, Wendell gathered what he had left of his equipment and escaped the quaint mountain cottage he had lived in, after being attacked by several of the Mist's victims.

Character's Appearance: A young man with a fiery red hair tied into a long braid and darkblue eyes, angular face and a fit body, at 183 cm and 76 kg.
Short History:  Born to a family of blacksmiths, Varkhal, as expected, took upon his family's trade. Learning how to smith since he was a child, it did not take long for him to question mundane crafting means, especially after a relative from one of his family's branches paid his home a visit. In front of his eyes, the young boy saw armor and weapon being woven in arcane ways instead of crafted normally, equipment that carried not only metal, but magic essence with them.

After quickly making his mind, Varkhal was taken as a student by said branch of his family, willing to measure no effort to become an Arcane Artificer. His preference for heavy weaponry was quickly shown through his passion for two-handed hammers with long hafts and heavy, blocky smashing heads, as well as arbalests and his love for plate armor. In his training grounds, he was usually seen with a  heavy two-handed hammer with a long haft which followed his tastes, which he called "Bane", as well as an arbalest slung across his back and plate armor of his own making.

When disaster struck, the rookie was far from finishing his studies, and now with the problem of the Mist afoot, he will most likely have to learn further by himself.

Young and inexperienced, Varkhal is dedicated, determined and stubborn, although he's perfectly able to use common sense and act reasonably.

Character's Appearance: Aerus has black, shaggy, shoulder length hair kept in a loose ponytail, and hazel eyes. On his left cheek is a tattoo of his tribe's symbol, and under his right eye is three horizontal scars, marking him a huntsman. He stands at 5'8" and typically wears white and light gray clothing made of heavy cloth to match the snowy environment of his homeland. Aerus carries his family's tomahawk and a bow given to him by the village elder.
Short History: Aerus was a member of an ambitious northern tribe known for holding deep political views. Born to a hunting family, he had little, if any political ambition, and spent much of his childhood learning how to use a bow and throwing axe, rather than study. He was quickly given the tribal name "Stardrinker" due to his tendency to daze out during nights to watch the starry sky. When he became a teenager, Aerus was quick to pass the Hunter's Test, and was initiated into that segment of his tribe. The hunters had become tools of the political leaders to better the tribe, and further their goals of joining the kingdom. Aerus was held in high regard for his efficiency and skill as a hunter, but many were above him in both fields, and he was always quick to deny and correct praise given to him when he felt it was not due.
On an unusually warm day in his winter homelands, Aerus was tasked with delivering a collection of the finest furs from recent hunts as gifts to the human capital, and so he set off to the south. The journey was not long for one so familiar with the roads and wilderness as him, but before Aerus could even make it into the city proper, he was forced to drop the furs and run for safety from the mist, eventually finding himself in the cave.

Short History: An ex-mercenary from the Band of Hawks, a group of mercenaries operating in the Southlands. He specialized in long-range takedowns, otherwise known as 'sniping', and he was also the Band's hunter.

He quit years ago, after realizing that he'd rather be hunting animals than people; this was disputed by the Band's ringleader. Wendell responded by shooting him in the head, saying that he'd lost faith in money, and left. Ever since, Wendell has pretty much kept a low profile, until the Mist came around. Short history : Leeroy Hops was caught in a fire 1 year ago and had half his face horribly burned, he had to have one eye removed entirely and the scaring is likely to never heal.
The fact that he set the fire himself just adds irony to the accident.
Leeroy was fortunate in that he had a lot of money already and so once he lost his job he decided to take a round the world trip for a year and has only recently returned home likely leaving half a dozen kids in various countries.

Short History: Sia was born the daughter of a witch, and so spent most of her very early childhood playing in enchanted woods and laughing at unseen spirits. She was inducted at a young age into the Riven Eye Coven, where she served under the venerated hag Malgada Stormclaw. She earned the name Brightmoon for her generally pleasant nature and interest in more creative and productive activities, and was traveling in search of rare herbs when the mist hit.

Character's Appearance: A young man with a fiery red hair tied into a long braid and darkblue eyes, angular face and a fit body, at 183 cm and 76 kg.
Short History:  Born to a family of blacksmiths, Varkhal, as expected, took upon his family's trade. Learning how to smith since he was a child, it did not take long for him to question mundane crafting means, especially after a relative from one of his family's branches paid his home a visit. In front of his eyes, the young boy saw armor and weapon being woven in arcane ways instead of crafted normally, equipment that carried not only metal, but magic essence with them.

After quickly making his mind, Varkhal was taken as a student by said branch of his family, willing to measure no effort to become an Arcane Artificer. His preference for heavy weaponry was quickly shown through his passion for two-handed hammers with long hafts and heavy, blocky smashing heads, as well as arbalests and his love for plate armor. In his training grounds, he was usually seen with a  heavy two-handed hammer with a long haft which followed his tastes, which he called "Bane", as well as an arbalest slung across his back and plate armor of his own making.

When disaster struck, the rookie was far from finishing his studies, and now with the problem of the Mist afoot, he will most likely have to learn further by himself.

Young and inexperienced, Varkhal is dedicated, determined and stubborn, although he's perfectly able to use common sense and act reasonably.
