I hope none of these are serious because some just sound like tat. Let's fill some out as Steve O'Luckless, the rich yet embittered retired brewer from Ireland (brewing potatoes or something):
$5: Your name is added as a random sentient historical figure at the beginning of worldgen.  You have a chance to see engravings of yourself being eaten by a dragon, or becoming lord of an empire.
There is always someone named Steve O'Luckless, or (more likely for $5), Dicks McCock Boobs. Everyone else has an RNG name except for a mysterious bank of people who always show up identical. It's not like this will detract from the randomness of it all.
$25: Crayon picture (probably a copy)
A copy? Shame! Steve is sad now.
$50: DF Shirt or hat
Sewed personally by Toady's aging grandmother, her fingers working vile curses upon her kin and you as she tries to forget that she'll be paid far below minimum wage for this.
$75:  Signed DF poster
Steve is happy and hangs it in his room.
$100: Your name gets added to a list, from which the names of Fluffy Wamblers will be chosen.  All Fluffy Wamblers will have a name, drawn from this list.  Special thanks mention.  Limit 500
Why?! They're not even real creatures! They're vermin!! And they'll all be named things like ILIKEVAGINAZZ and xX69internetXxx! Except for Steve the fluffy wambler.
$250:  Towns in worldgen can be named in your honor, civ of your choosing. Limit 50
This is even worse! Because the naming pool is even smaller, pretty much every town Steve visits will be named Steve!
$500:  New animal you get to describe and name.  Subject to approval, obviously.  Limit 25
Oh, this is subject to approval but naming 2% of all towns isn't?! And how can you choose a civ when civs are randomly generated? Do you mean race?? Anyway, Steve likes potatoes a lot and has added potato men to the game. We're doomed.
$1000: A new "vein" stone is named after you, color and properties of your choosing. Limit 10
"Realistic geology with certain fantasy aspects? Pah! I'm looking forward to a collective union of trolls saving up enough to add penis ore to the game! And it's fuchsia!"
Seriously, though, you underestimate Toady's integrity. He's not famous and he's not going to let random people on the Internet make him add stuff for a small fee.

We should just do a Dwarf Fortress donation drive on Kickstarter, by the players and community, for Toady and Threetoe.

Basically, the thing would be put together for Toady, augmenting his standard donation driven income as a one-time-only thing, the goal is like $100k or more, and the rewards would be stuff made by the community, like drawings and whatnot.

Eh, a Kickstarter would fail anyways because we can't donate in WoW gold.

We could do a kickstarter with the intention of donating the money to DF later. No need to ask Toady really :D

If I dare bring up the word "practical" around here, then to be practical some of those suggestions already have prices available.  Story rewards and crayon rewards can be set at the average amount spent on electronic and/or mailed donations, and new animals can be set similarly thanks to the animal sponsorship drive.  I don't remember the minimum amount required during the drive, unfortunately, and the original post in that thread has since been edited.

Of course, those values themselves might not be "practical" for a Kickstarter campaign.

Assuming this would be a kickstarter for physical copies, like with webcomics and other free internet things:

$1 - Your choice of a crayon drawing or ASCII art reward.
$30 - Basic support: Boxed copy of Dwarf Fortress with instruction manual.
$60 - Advanced support: Your boxed copy will include "Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress" by Peter Tyson, and the Three Toe anthology.
$140 - Museum-grade: Your copy will include the art book assembled by generous forum supporters and the "Dwarf Fortress: Art in Video Games" coffee table book as seen in the NY MoMA gift store.
$500 - An animal or mythical beast of your choosing will be added to the game. (limit 100)

All rewards include previous tiers.

I can't think of any higher tier rewards that would be realistic.
I'm surprised nobody noticed this. But a printed DF manual would be massive. It would cost more than $30 to post!

$1000 Mudstone statue carved by a novice craftsdwarf.
$10000 You get the full version of Dwarf Fortress, which Toady plans to reveal in small increments over the next 20 years. Though, you also must be kept underground to prevent any leaks. Worth it? Probably.

Nah, not really. Contrary to popular belief, there's a build in manual. The only usefull thing it manages to do is to tell you how to close it, and linking to the wiki.

No, it's been a good reference for me when finding out how to play Adventure mode and remembering what order the improvement tags go in (*  is better than +! I remembered, Mommy!).

We could do a community kickstarted, and then donate the money earned to toady, and the community would make the rewards. Lets do it people!

Just donate directly.
But then we don't feel like we made a community effort to help Toady...

The advantage of Kickstarter over the donations page on this site is visibility.
