Assuming this would be a kickstarter for physical copies, like with webcomics and other free internet things:

$1 - Your choice of a crayon drawing or ASCII art reward.
$30 - Basic support: Boxed copy of Dwarf Fortress with instruction manual.
$60 - Advanced support: Your boxed copy will include "Getting Started with Dwarf Fortress" by Peter Tyson, and the Three Toe anthology.
$140 - Museum-grade: Your copy will include the art book assembled by generous forum supporters and the "Dwarf Fortress: Art in Video Games" coffee table book as seen in the NY MoMA gift store.
$500 - An animal or mythical beast of your choosing will be added to the game. (limit 100)

All rewards include previous tiers.

I can't think of any higher tier rewards that would be realistic.

If anyone paid $50,000, I would personally end them with collapsing ceilings and magma. Lots of magma.

And... OMG, an email from the Toady One!      MUST     HAVE!

$1:  Standard muchas gracias
$5: Your name is added as a random sentient historical figure at the beginning of worldgen.  You have a chance to see engravings of yourself being eaten by a dragon, or becoming lord of an empire.
$25: Crayon picture (probably a copy)
$50: DF Shirt or hat
$75:  Signed DF poster
$100: Your name gets added to a list, from which the names of Fluffy Wamblers will be chosen.  All Fluffy Wamblers will have a name, drawn from this list.  Special thanks mention.  Limit 500
$250:  Towns in worldgen can be named in your honor, civ of your choosing. Limit 50
$500:  New animal you get to describe and name.  Subject to approval, obviously.  Limit 25
$1000: A new "vein" stone is named after you, color and properties of your choosing. Limit 10

I'd be careful with the really labor-intensive stuff, especially at low levels.  Even a short story and signed crayon picture takes time to write, and if they've got to do a THOUSAND of them we'll never see DF released.  Even simple signed stuff can take entire days if you've got to sign a lot of things.  Judging from some of the recent Kickstarter success stories (there's a game that got 11,400% that I'm looking at right now.  No typo), the response to DF would be huge, especially with the huge swell of recognition it's starting to get.  Even for shirts and hats, Toady'd have to hire people just to co-ordinate the logistics of ordering and shipping them.

Don't think Toady will go Kickstarter, though.  Seems like he wants to do all the coding himself and make sure his baby turns out exactly the way he wants it.  Sure, it'd go faster if he got a million dollars from Kickstarter and hired a whole team, but I think it'll turn out better his way.  We just have to be patient =p

$100,000,000,000,000,000 - When DF becomes sentient, your death will be swift.

So there we go

We should NEVER have a Dwarf fortress Kickstarter because the donations would become so monumental that we would sink the worlds economy and die

In fact that donation is SO large that the only conclusion is that we bankrupted several planets in the funding of this project. We bankrupted more then 200 earths.

Thus paving the way for a brave new world run by a sentient program running at 2 FPS.

It's a self fulfilling pledge.

Also, should we ever have a DF kickstarter, I doubt anyone of the naming things will ever get in. All those names will clash with the athmosphere of the game.

Well, in a world populated by Giant Tick Men and Jabberers, I think we've got a little leeway on the creation of new species and such.  I'm sure Toady would exercise Veto power over it too if it was way too out there, because you KNOW someone would grab it just to add a Giant Cockasaurus with deadly spit or something similar.  Or a town named Ebboramost (Ebbor's Town), etc.

$500.00: Toady fixes a bug of your choice

This. Made me laugh, but otherwise sounds reasonable.

Anyway, shouldn't we keep Toady borderline poor so he keeps working on DF as his only mean to live? Would he keep on DF if he got, let's say, 1M$? I bet he would, but don't tempt the luck.
