Why would it being a one way trip mean that you are sure to become a slave?

Did you pay 500,000 dollars for your servants? No? Then get to work slave!

I don't understand how it being a one way ticket makes you either dead or a slave.

I'd do it for Science. No other reason why though. Abandoning your life, home - PLANET is a hard thing to do. I wonder if this was an actual thing, if anyone who would say yes now would be able to say yes then?
The first two, at least, are exceptionally easy and quite enjoyable, from experience. I don't think the third would be particularly worse in general.

Well you are a slave because you will be put to work and if you chose not to work you will be shot because you are too much of a risk.

That is how it works in Space GlyphGryph.

What do you think this will be like? Landing a bubble town on Mars?

I am not even joking. I honestly wonder what you think you will be doing the entire time. You will be put to work. (actually oddly enough I believe that you will be litterally a slave...)

Nonsense. We'll just enslave the Martians and put them to work.

Of course you'll have to work. You have to work on Earth, too, in case you haven't noticed. The original European colonists in the America's had to work their asses off to not die, and obviously Mars would be an even bigger challenge.

That doesn't mean you'll be a slave, any more than you are here on earth. And without 80,000 slaves and Earth very, very far away, do you honestly think we'd be slaves for long if that somehow happened?

If the Colonist refused to make a guy a door were they shot?

There is no ability to negotiate your terms and you have no ownership. Hense slave in a very litteral sense.

YES! ONE WAY!

If anything happened no one would or even could come and save you.

OH NO, I might have to work on a space colony? Well fuck that!

I'd go to mars, hell yeah, opportunity of a lifetime.

Whats up with all the slavery talk? Work for your food, is it so different here?

The difference is that they can just up and kill you and do whatever they want to you... and you have no choice in the matter.

Space law sucks.

So I hope you like back breaking HIGHLY DANGEROUS labour that if you refuse to do they can just kill you.

So who is this "they", big evil cooperation coming around to kick my dog? 80000 colonists and there's going to be guards running around with batons and whips? I swear if I have to form the Red Faction I will, but I don't think SpaceX is going to behave like Ultor.

The Enforcers. As in the only ones who get the guns.

Be they military or just people hired for the job.

This is of course ignoring all the deaths from the dangerous work they will make you do.

Surely there will be "enforcers" as in "law officers", but "Enforcers"? Hired(or recruited) by who? and for what?
I highly doubt that someone in a cramped bouncing castle-like habitat will bash the head of the next guy just because he failed his spice mineral quota and the terran overlord command it.
When put in perilous situation humans tend to form bonds, strong bonds that override the military(or the even less strong economical) one. So no, noone there would be an "Enforcer".
And if someone would like to simply chill in the cantina 24/7 and enslave someone other to do the hard work?
Firstly he should not be there in the first place, but since it's impossible to weed out all the egoistic elements let's say he's there.
Then he is enslaving other people for what? A plastic window to a barren red land isn't a nice view even when high on fresh-recycled O2, and anyone sane of mind would never have even the slight possibility of a revolt in a so fragile environment anyway...

I'd like to do it, if just to see what the necessity of constant space flight and inter-planetary trading invents.

Lolololololololololololololololol

Lol.

Ol.

I'd imagine setting up a sustainable colony on Mars would involve setting up a sustainable colony. If this was going to be done without money in mind it'd be done so. You work for your wages, or the wages won't be there.

In order to go to Mars:
1 kg needs 1.5 fuel (vasimirs)* to an estimated 7-8 liter fuel per kg (conventionall engines)**

*39 day trip
**150 day trip

Meaning:
230 kg launchweight for every human
1610 kg fuel for every human

150 days is a quick transfer, if you did one that required minimal fuel, it would take a bit longer but the extra food would be much less than the extra fuel.
