Spaceventure! Turn 4: Slave Soldiers
« on: November 26, 2012, 07:02:17 pm »

You stand in front of the massive spire that resemble a pillar of heaven that will lead you to your destiny. This orbital elevator, along with the letter in your hand, is proof enough of that. Boarding the ground floor, you prepare yourself to go above the stratosphere, and see what few men had seen before- that is, until the orbital elevator was created and all.

Shooting straight to the buisness sector, you find where you're going quickly. Flashing the letter you have at the ship bay operator, he quickly gets someone to take his post and guides you down to a rather well hidden "staff elevator". One small drop later and you see your future vessel, meant to take you to the wonders of space.

The letter you received was better identified as a winning lottery ticket- you're one of the proud few men who get to travel the universe. Like the pioneers did in ancient times, you will chart the uncharted and settle the wild. But first, you need a ship.

---
Ships:

GPC-11 FRIGATEBIRD
ROSARY SPACE SOLUTIONS, INC

A large commercial ship retooled for longer travels than regular merchant routes.
ARMOR:2
HULL:5
FUEL:6
STORAGE:4

Ultraviolet Deep Pulse Lasers (x4)
--A somewhat weak but quick-firing laser setup that retains power for long distances.
----Power: 1, Distance: 8, Recharge: 4

IS-M SEAGULL
OSBORNE INDUSTRIAL LLC

A somewhat small industry ship built to mine.
ARMOR:0
HULL:6
FUEL:6
STORAGE:8

Sub-Ultraviolet Photon Mining Beam (x2)
--Strong at close range, but quickly loses power over distances. Very easy to recharge.
--Can be used on uninhabited areas to expose more ores, or break apart existing ones for easier collection
----Power:3, Distance:3, Recharge: 2

Near X-Ray Pulsar Cannon
--Burst-fire laser array with powerful shots at the cost of charging speed.
----Power:4, Distance:6, Recharge:6

Mining Unit (x3)
--Used to mine local resources, can be automated or manned.

IS-M/F GOLDFINCH
PARAGON AEROSPACE DIVISION

A medium sized ship capable of both mining and using raw materials, but notorious for it's lack of integrity. Not suited for rough environments.
ARMOR:1
HULL:3
FUEL:5
STORAGE:8

HEAVY BORE MISSILEBOX
--Missile type weapon, can fire multiple missiles per turn but uses up ammunition
----Power:4, Distance:4, Load Cap: 2

SUB-ULTRAVIOLET STROBE ARRAY (x2)
--Fires lasers indiscriminately, uses the tactic of "hit more, not harder"
----Power:1, Distance: 1, Recharge: Constant Fire

MINING UNIT (x2)
--Used to mine local resources, can be automated or manned.

FACTORY BLOCK
--Can be used to turn raw materials into useful products. You can ask if it's possible to make something, but possible-to-make items may be stated when you have the materials,
--I.E: (Lithium, Aluminum, Tesla Coil, Railgun Magnet Strips) gives (Electric Rail Rifle: Ground Troop Weapon).

---------

You also need a crew, and there are three available teams ready to work under you.

WATCHGATE PMC
Private military group, trained soldiers. They come with basic equipment for battles. This enables you to fight ground wars.

DWARFMINE UNION
Miners looking for a job. Travelling with you might actually be safer than some of the available mining jobs anyway... makes mining better/ easier.

FREELANCE ENGINEER CORPS
A band of ship engineers looking for hire. They can do more than just basic repair and can install parts without needing to hire technicians.

------

Who are you, what ship do you take, and who do you hire to come along?

Why the engineers instead of miners/soldiers for the seagulls?

It's good to have versatility.

So it's bugger all for ship choice and a pretty good chance we'll see engineers. I had dwarf jokes ready, too. Hmm, voting is still open since, again, ship decision is 1/1/1, and might be for a whole day.

But the goldfinch has a manufacturing bay, and although it has w a weak Hull, has an armor of 1 andthose Hull points can easily be remade with the help of the manufacturing bay,raw mats, and the engineer

Assuming you get the right starting location, yes. Not every resource will help with hull, and 1 armor means you'll survive one hit guaranteed.

The Seagull is tough enough to survive anything from the start but you'll be spending money or resources getting people to upgrade your ship and/or make things.

The Frigatebird is the best choice for surviving firefights and will often do good as a "kill 'n scavenge" model.

Of course it'll be a pain in the ass to get resources sometimes. Honestly, I'd take the Seagull, but that's just because it's sort of a balance between fighter and mercantile. If no one else comes here in like, a long time, I'll go with that, but my vote dosen't count until tomorrow evening if there's still a tie.

I'll change my vote to the Goldfinch to break the tie.
