In a hushed if still jovial tone, Marcellus began with the conversation.

"Well gentlemen, it seems rather obvious whats happening here. A suspicious little man has been wandering the streets asking questions he ought not and someone has sent two very tall men to see what he's wanting and if he seems dangerous...and if he is, to cut his throat and throw him into the sea...or something along those lines, yes?"

Marcellus sipped from his cup, waiting for a reply.

Crassius felt that it was tie to start his venture. Fae and Kaeso seemed like a reliable partners, but any avenue that could make money was a good one. He contemplated the issue of the loan and worried over the potential repayment, but the money would not be waiting for him forever. The dice were cast, it was time to act.

He knew of a cosy place around the lower districts, with run down taverns, shops and meeting places. and What better place to start a social initiative thana bath house in the pooer area? sure ,the people will have to pay for entry, but its better than walking miles to get ot a source of clean water or not wash at all. A good Hadrian cared for his health after all, and the poor were no different.
Crassius got in touch with his contacts, talked to some people in the area and managed to get the money flowing. He took over one of the run down establishments and begun restoring it to working condition - rooms with hot and cold baths, a small courtyard for exercise and an open area connected with street front. Crassius' baths were on their way to become a hub for social life of the plebeians - which seemed fitting for a Popular senator who was to run that business.

-------------------------------------------

It was around the same time that Crassius got to speak publicly to the people in his district. Poor as they might be, they were not stupid, and Crassius was determined to strengthen the confidence of these people as well as set few things straight.

"Citizens, Hadrians, Countrymen! I stand before you today as one of many, who enjoys our most recent triumph! Our beloved emperor, may gods keep him safe, won us a victory, and a mighty one at that for we lost almost no men and gained new lands. His generosity is great as well as his magnanimity - with a generous hand he showered us with free bread, slaves and loot, while letting our foes live as our servants, our dominion over them so total.
Yet, we must not forget that emperor is not alone in his triumph, for our strength, the strength of the people enabled this victory. and while populars stand in one line with emperor as supporters of the empire, we must remain vigilant to those that would seek to deny him power or make profit off us. It was scarcely few weeks since a Popular motion to share loot more openly with everoyne was denied by the other factions in the senate, their greed great and their envy of our emperor running high. Yet he proved that he cares about us, bringing forth the riches of the conuered lands and haring them with us. Thereofre abandon false voices that tell you that senate is your only hope, for they lie. with Populars and the emperor, you might be safe that our nation will not be hijacked by private interests and arrogant men.
Long live the emperor, long live Hadria!"

Use my discounted loan to establish lvl 1 bathhouse business in the lower district. Make a speech in the forum and the lower district - praise the emperor and boost the support of the populars.

Fae grinned slightly at Crassius, before turning back on his heels and heading for the library once more. He pulls down a ratty old parchment and began to read the writing upon it.

Return to Hadria, personally train Wep proficiency (blades)
[2,4,4,2,1] +20 points progress

Learn the Desert Elf tongue. Read more on trolls, like if they regenerate or regrow or stuff like that.
[2] The old parchment has several holes that makes the text almost indechiperable to you (It is, however, still in a condition to be read by someone who knows the language.)

[4] Your forays into the knowledge of the trolls however go alot more smoothly. While they do regenrate at a higher rate compared to most others, it is by no means supernatually quick. What gives the trolls this reputation though, is their bulk and size. A standard spatha does neglible injuries to one, and a standard javelin hardly slows a troll down if they're hit by one.

[5+1] A glint appears in the scrawnier elf's eyes, and the larger fellow grins, elbows his friend and comments in [6] a mixture of two languages, one of which is your own and the other some form of desert elf dialect, making whatever he said all but indecipherable- But you get the feeling it was in your favor.

"You're ah smart dwarf, eh?" The scrawnier fellow asks, leaning back in his seat and taking a hesitant sip from his mug. "Figure ya are. 'nd I'm a smart elf. Why don'tcha tell us what it is ya want?"
[5] He shrugs, and grins, "Might be we can Peck it outta tha trash heaps for ya."

Lori nods to the Senator on the way out, and quickly follows after Durant.
When away from the building, she says, "Sir, can you brief me? I wasn't kept up to date with the Senator we just met, or general happenings."

"Very simple, extremely simple, actually...you see, my family has always loved caring for birds and I've inherited that little hobby. I'd like a few birds of my own to watch flutter and fly out, perhaps bringing back a rock, a little hunting victim or perhaps a scroll or two? Of course, I'd treat such birds very well, perhaps a few choicer morsels and a protection should my birds hurt anyone?

After a pause, Marcellus said,"You be understanding what I'm saying?" without the previously jovial tone.

Offer them lucrative rewards if they work with me.

[2+1] The scrawnier of the elves hides a frown with the lip of his mug as he mulls over your offer. Finally, he hisses something to his compatriot, who pushes up and moves off through the crowd.
"He's lettin' our suppliers know that we need a selection o' birds," the elf explains to the dwarf, setting his mug down. "But we got all kinds o' birds, huh? Why don't I tell ya how to find me, and we can talk about the sort o' birds you're looking for when ya need 'em?"

Marcellus has gained a contact in the form of an Elf known as Vilkas, who is willing to provide him with various trained birds in exchange for coin.

Use my discounted loan to establish lvl 1 bathhouse business in the lower district. Make a speech in the forum and the lower district - praise the emperor and boost the support of the populars.

Purchasing an old warehouse, you set about to converting it into a bathhouse (Services Industry, Size 1). It will be finished come the next season.

You then head to the forum, to deliver a speech...

[2] As you arrive in the forum, you are met by a disheartening sight- For whatever reason, there simply aren't that many people here today. Still, you go on with your speech all the same. [6+1] Those who are about, however, are quickly swayed by your strong words and eloquent mannerisms. They quickly begin to clamor in agreement with you, but it soon becomes clear that they are missing a part of your message- Many of them have started to think that, important as they are, with the Whitepeak threat finished the Emperor should begin to focus on things at home. You realize that you may have inadvertently gathered some support for the Isolationists among the merchant classes, as well as for your own.

In any case, you continue on to give your speech in the lower district...

[4] Arriving there near the evening, you easily catch the majority of the lower district's populace as they return from their various jobs, or, in most cases, have begun to close up shop for the day. Gathering their attention, you begin your speech. [3+1] Throughout your speech, murmurs occasionally ripple throughout the crowd, and most of them would seem to be positive. Near the end, a number of the people join you in your call for "Long Live Hadria!" You have a feeling that the people of the lower district have been swayed in favor of the Populars. Now you need only back your words up with action, to seal the deal.

Pff. "Later, on equal ground"! The man couldn't even come without bringing half of the Praetorians with him. And he geniunely seemed to believe that a fourth of the tax revenues going up in flame was a minor matter. But maybe it was all show. After all, he had to act up in frot of his aides.

They would need to meet again. In private. A pity, given the looks of the young elfette.

Well, I only meant well, and I am most sorry you took offense. As I said, I'm a friend of the Praetorians, and I'd love to meet you again, maybe in a less formal fashion.

After biding goodbye to the Praefectus and his aides and making sure some small presents were handed to the guards, Lucullus set out to attend more serious business. He needed some form of protection that wasn't the Guard. They simply would not do.

Raise a unit of PG
Have it patrol the city, referring any crime observed to the Praetorians

He also had some meetings to do, most notably with Crassius, the Popular leader. The man was a prick, but in an Emperor-dominated Senate, he was the only possible counterweight.

"Not much. A Senator started to make speeches to the people, inciting them to show their support to his new bill and apparently overdosed it." the Praefectus answered, moving ahead of his retinue. "There was a riot caused by it that ended in some property damage around the city, nothing too harsh.

His hand rested on the pommel of his morning star and he smirked as he walked. "Senator Hetairos may not be at fault, but I will try to discover something about those men who caused the riots. They could be using the opportunity of his speech as an excuse for rabblerousing."

Start an investigation, using my forte (questioning, Charisma) of course, of who the rioteers were and where they could be now.

[4] Your men get to work in the city. Although their relatively small numbers reduces the area they can cover and makes their overall contribution to crime-fighting, it does earn you a few commendations from the guard captains... And they let slip the fact that you have household guards inside the city. However, if the senate should hear of this, they might start raising all hell...

Start an investigation, using my forte (questioning, Charisma) of course, of who the rioteers were and where they could be now.

[6+1] The men who started the riots were... Nobody, it seems. Criminals and madmen; beggars and drunkards. While it may be reassuring that the actual respectable population of Hadria made not attempts at rioting, it does mean it's hard to know who they have connections with... If they have any at all. [2+1] Vague rumors float around the city that the rioters were never seen leaving to the countryside; this would mean they are most likely still inside the city... Which means they are most likely in the slums. It will be hard to track down anyone, down there...

((Gangs and influence related actions won't be considered secret; this goes for everybody))

It would most likely cost money to establish a gang or to influence one into serving you. The exact price of the affair depends on where you intend to hold most of your activities; however, the chances that said price will be below a ducat are... Slim. Unless you know of a way to expand your funds, you will have to find other ways to expand our influence.

Derahoc enjoyed the parade, even though for the most part it was the Emperor's glory. Still, his own name was being spoken of in connection to this great victory. It did not appear that anyone aside from him was concerned that Hadrian troops were no longer a strong presence in their newly conquered provinces, but he could only do so much about that.

It was an excellent campaign, and soon he would be have a governorship. Or perhaps he would be requested to lead another legion for the Emperor. Regardless, Derahoc Astralia was certain that things were going to go well for him in the future.

Raise up a PG regiment and march it immediately off to the cities of Armascum, and the place where Clypem will be rebuilt. In order to ensure that the rule of Hadria is not forgotten until such time as a governor can be appointed.

In addition, generic speech(no creativity today!) lauding the Emperor's fantastic military victory, and the expansion of the Hadrian empire during/after the parade.

Fae frowned, heading home, then after sliding the scrolls back into their musty alcoves. At his stately house, he quickly change into something a bit more formal, a dull green tunic, it‘s collar etched with golden thread.    Fae double-checked himself for weapons, before turning and heading out, asking his wife to keep dinner warm for him, since she was apparently cooking tonight.

Fae arranges a meeting with the Emperor.
