NOTE: MECH#4 UPDATE ON PREVIOUS PAGE

Quote
Is Warlock a fun game?

That is sort of a loaded question. Is it a fun game? Yeah of course. I love how you never feel like you need to keep huge armies everyhwere and how there is a sort of dynamic between the races (Humans generate the most gold, Goblins generate the most food, Undead generate the most mana, and Elves generate the most research). As well when you first start the game seems to hold untold treasures!

Is it a good game?... That is up for debate. Honestly in many ways it isn't. The AI is really awful, the balance is non-existant, luck outright determines the winner, and in many ways your starting race is less meaningful. As well the magic never really gets epic and for a game that is taking hints from "Master of Magic" that is a shame. It is actually shame because the spells just end before they really get epic. In fact you will run out of god spells (spells given to you by a diety) way before you get anywhere close to a very high relationship.

You can even make your own character with his own advantages from a pool... but the vast majority of them are useless or quickly useless (Yay... 100 starting gold...) or REALLY powerful (+20% research? My goodness!). Don't expect their point cost to tie into their true value as a lot of them are just for flavor (Like having a starting Koatal village)

Elves are sort of incredibly unbalanced at the moment. The issue with Elves is that their unit theme is that they have high upkeep but for that exchange you get a lot of power. Goblins also do not balance well for their "low" upkeep because you will realise that this isn't a game where wave tactics work, this is a game about a few key powerful units.

Yet in many ways it is. The way everything comes together with you stacking your spells and upgrades into singular powerful units to siege towns no one could normally. Getting heros of unmeasurable strength and oddity (You can recruit any hero, but the ones you find are always high quality. Mind you my "best" hero was recruited for tons of cash and was pretty much game breaking).

As I said it is a game that doesn't do anything really wrong, but it just doesn't really come together as a good game.

---

I really hope you eventually take a leader Mech#4. I am a bit surprised you didn't do it this time just so you could wallow in his misery.

Honestly I would almost like him not being the fool himself but more that his talents and skills are overlooked. "I just killed that dragon... SOLO!"... "Huh? Whatever. So you say this leather is made out of genuin ice penguins?"

Uhhh... nevermind... I shouldn't have said that.

You should try to go for the end game Wildlands win if you can of course still beat everyone up that makes you mad.

Yeah... beat everyone into the ground, but leave someone with one puny hemmed in town. Then win via the wildlands quest. Kind of a, "Haha, I could end you at any point... but I'm going to go save the world instead, and leave you to suffer and wail fruitlessly at my unstoppable armies. U mad?"

I imagine it would be a bit more "Okay, we've beaten all the other civilized dudes into submission, let's beat the incredibly hostile wildlife into submission too."

There is sort of a reason why one of the victory conditions in this game is you beating down nature so hard no one will mess with you.

It sounds crazy but Erala wasn't going to let me keep Ilisath alive after all he'd done. :P Maybe we'll find another candidate for royal punching bag.

It seems that the public opinion at the moment is to continue beating up the other factions until we've nearly won, then go and beat up the wildlands for a Master Quest victory. I can support this move, it'll keep things interesting right up to the end, I just hope we survive that long.

Pit of Lost Voices would've been more fun if losing that fight eliminated you from the game.  :o

As it is, you can win it even by swarming the boss with waves of militia armies.

Or I guess he could heal after every fight.

Often in games I wonder WHY you win after certain victory conditions.

In Civilisation often the reasoning is that you become the unquestionably greatest civilisation of all time.

Yet for some games, especially 4x games, there really is no reason to the "end the game" victory. "Ohh so you ascended? But can do you do anything to me? No? Ok then". I have to give credit to Master of Magic, it is just about the only game that had the final research / spell actually win the game make sense (The ultimate spell is complete mastery over the Astral plane. Which means you gain the power to essentially kill any mage at anytime)

So yes in this situation WHY does completing this quest win "you" the game?
