Earthbitten, my first evil biome
« on: November 24, 2012, 04:21:52 pm »

Hello, all! I've decided to undertake a haunted biome and I decided to document my fortress attempt. It may appear peaceful at first, but trust me, it can and will murder everyone before long.

I am something of a newb at DF. However, I have repeatedly found myself bored with my midgets. So, I've decided to attempt
a haunted biome. Here is the embark below (I have trouble memorizing the ASCII tile set so I use Ironhand instead.)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Feel free to ask to become a dwarf. I also rarely actively murder migrants, so there should be a surplus of idiot fisherdwarves to
pick from.

As you can see here, I am starting with two miners, one wood-worker(Who may be turned into a military unit, if I get a
particularly nasty type of storm),a mason, a dual-classed stone & wood crafter and broker, and two dwarves specializing in farming.
And so, the story of the fortress Earthernbitten and the great dwarvern settlers, The Construct of War, begins!

As I begin my descent into tantrum spirals and madness, I am warned to get lodgings together "ere the cougars get hungry".
Right. Because cougars are what I need to worry about, clearly. Upon opening the units menu, I've got to say,
I expected a little more of the eat-your-soul type creatures. But instead, I am greeted with this:

Not even the freaking cougars! Well, one way or the other, this fortress will be eaten by zombies, elves, clowns, and about
everything else in the game.

I am planning on updating this more, and chances are I am playing and working on this as you read it.

If it's not a pure evil spot, you can get nice animals like that, spawning from the nice part of your map.

*Sighs* Nevermind, for some reason the Circus was randomly exposed to me, showing about 700 clowns, which murdered my FPS. So, I abandoned because  I can't play at that speed.

Sorry, it's already abandoned. Also, it wasn't that fun, because the demons couldn't escape into the fortress.

Reclaim. SHOW US!
Well, I'm not sure if it would still be revealed, but if it is, then hey, why not show you guys? Otherwise, Earthbitten would be saved.

Woot! Earthbitten's saved! I'm sorry I didn't think to take a screen shot. I've hit reclaim on all the items there, and the dwarves have the same professions.

My name is Flameboy Lilumamost, the expidition leader of the aptly named Fatal Garrison. I am serving as the woodworker for
this fortress, whose last settlers had the common sense to run. Supposedly, they heard great shreiks from far below the
surface, though I'm not sure I believe that. They said these screeches slowed everyone down out of fear, so the fortress
could no longer operate. I, being the one who pulled the short straw, was drafted. Along with me is Astesh Konunib, a mason,
Cog Bomreknabar and Sakzul Lilumamost, a pair of dedicated farmers, Iden Beruker and Libash Erithkab, a pair of miners,
and Urdim Nonubdomas. This area's haunted, I can just feel it! Let's just pray to As Mauvemint, god of wealth and gems.
that the place isn't toodangerouts, and is rich enough to make a decent living! We've already got a breeding pair of Yaks
pastured, and we've been working on clearing out the unmined sections and re-furrowing the farm.

BUZZARDS!!!! They've come, and quite frankly, I wish a thrall did. At least a thrall has the decency to NOT sit by the farm and
wait for a plump helmet to mature before taking it and running off!

Oh god... the soot has come. I was warned about this. One of our miners didn't make it inside in time and all his blood was
drained from his body! Oh great Armok, save us! The year is yet to end, and we still have men dieing in horrible ways! I
shudder to think of how many will be corpses by the time the soot passes.

Haunted biomes aren't deadly, as I recall. The most they can do (if I remember right) is rain blood. Still... Excellent logs so far, looking forwards to the continuation. And too bad about the demons. >.> 700 at once sounds bizarrely epic.

fakeedit: ninja'd by a bit, it would seem. And blood-draining soot... whoa. lol

Good idea. I'm uploading it to dropbox, because I know of no better ways to do it. The account is as follows:
Email: Earthbitten@gmail.com
Password:earth.bitten
Also, would you guys like to make this a bloodline game? If I get 5 votes yes or no in the polls, that's what I will do. If in, say, two weeks, I will go with whatever  has the current majority.

DFFD. Google it. Dwarf Fortress File Depot. It's like dropbox or media fire, but it's just for Dwarf Fortress.

Sure, who do you want? Also, I haven't posted this yet, but I've got a small migrant wave of two fishers, who have become peasants.
