So this is my sequel to the unfinished, but overall successful "Roll to Industrial Japan" & "~Blizzard Inferno: Tale of the Otriads~" game. So if you were in those, this game in the vein.
And this is important for those who are keen on historical accuracy:
This is a fictional story based off of real events. Almost everything will differ from the actual events of the Boxer Rebellion, but the actual war will provide the initial framework for the game's setting. With that said and done, onto the story!
Story:Summer 1902. China is in turmoil for it's people. Treaties ensure that only the aristocrats and foreigners benefit from trade. Opium addiction is a pandemic that effects millions. Christians and their intuitions are given special privileges by the state. It looked like the entire nation would collapse, until the people had enough.
A few months ago, the people starting launching sporadic attacks on Chinese Christians and foreigners, killing them and destroying their property. The people now chant "Death to the Foreigners, glory to China!" In response to the violence, Empress Cixi has mobilized the Imperial Army and the Royal Han Guard. Now, a rebel group consisting of mainly farmers and peasants has risen to power. They call themselves the "Righteous Harmony Society", a group based nationalism and spirituality. They foreigners have witnessed their intense close-quarter-combat training, nicknaming them "Boxers". The Muslim Kansu Braves and the Manchu Bannermen have supported the call for nationalism. The foreigners have sent soldiers over to quell the fighting, and several Chinese Aristocrats and Christians have gone over to their side. The Imperial Army is caught between helping Chinese people and allowing Western Trade and presence. New military technologies, such as repeating rifles, the first true machine guns and modern mines, make this perhaps the first contemporary war in history.
This is where you come in. You all come in from different backgrounds: Chinese and Foreigners, Buddhists, Christians and Muslims, Rich, Middle Class and Poor. You will change the path of this war and alter the future forever. And your journey starts now...

Gameplay & Rules:I will use the standard D6 dice roller, but this game will be based on my own decision and subjectivity rather than numbers. What I mean is that there will be less focus on numeral systems, (No HP and Exp. Bars) but instead more based on characters, situation and plot. For example, in a regular RTD, Character X attacking Enemy Y with a (6 vs. 4) result would normally result in -2 HP. However, here I take into account things like weapon, attack/defense positions, experience, health, and etc. So a (6 vs. 4) in a combat could mean anything from a kick that breaks a knee, to a gunshot to the head.
Also, instead of classic dice result rules, (1 & 2 are bad, 3-5 are good, 6 is bad) I will have this formula: The higher a number, the better a result. So 6's or above are the best results, and the numbers get smaller the result becomes more negative.
As for combat, first I will post the aggressor's attack, versus the defender's defense (X vs. Y). If X is more than Y, the attack hits. If X and Y are the same, the attacks cancel out, and there is no counter-attack. However, if Y is more than X, X misses the attack, and Y gets a counterattack. I roll again, and if Y>X, than Y hits. But if Y< or = to X, it misses.
Lastly, each number represents a different outcome. The higher a number is in a result, it will have a more dramatic effect than the same difference but with a lower result; i.e. (6 vs. 5) will be a more powerful attack than (3 vs. 2), a (5 vs. 1) has more impact than a (5 vs. 3), etc.
Attributes:
Attributes are permanent factors that modify rolls that pertain to their areas, i.e., Strength effects actions that utilize strength. Attributes can either be + or -. + Attributes have a 50% chance of adding +1 to rolls, while - Attributes add a 50% chance of -1 from effected rolls. It doesn't matter which Attributes you + or -.
The main rule is that you can only have as many + Attributes as -, and vice-versa. (i.e., if you have 2 + Attributes you MUST have 2 - Attributes.)The attributes are:
Strength: The amount of muscle that can be put into tasks. Effects actions like lifting heavy objects and melee combat.
Endurance: How long you can keep physically working. Effects things like traveling long distances and using heavy weaponry.
Agility: How quickly you can move. Effects things like sprinting, dodging and jumping.
Perception: How well you can see and aim. Effects things like looking around and using ranged weapons.
Toughness: How much physical pain you can take. Effects things like combat and disease.
Stealth: How sneaky you are. Effects being unnoticed, pickpocketing and lock picking.
Intelligence: How much raw brain power you have. Effects solving logical problems and using medicine.
Will: Mental toughness. How much mental strain you can take, and how you respond in peril.
Instinct: How fast your body can process new information. Effects counter-attacking and quick reactions.
Charisma: How well you can speak to people. Effects things like charm and intimidation.
Dexterity: How well you can work with your hands. Effects Martial Arts and grabbing objects.
Luck: How well Lady Luck treats you. Randomly effects roles.
Factions & Allegiances:Instead of the two white-and-black sides in Imperial Japan, there is a huge spectrum between all the factions from Nationalism to Foreign Influence. Each faction has it's own goals and independence but will ally itself with any forces that provides mutual benefits.
Nationalist Chinese Factions: These are not all the factions in China, just those that lean towards Nationalism.
Imperial Army - This army follows the command of the Empress and those under her power. Her troops must obey her orders, as she may declare them to fight or support just about anyone.
Han Royal Guard - A small, elite bunch of units assigned to the Empress and her family. While the Imperial Army's goal is to provide for the Empress's military wishes, the Han Royal Guard exists to make sure nothing happens to her or her court.
Righteous Harmony Society - A.K.A. The Boxers. The largest group of Chinese Nationalist rebels. Unlike the Imperial Army, they are not a conventional army, and prefer to fight on a smaller scale. They practice many rituals centered around improving the body, mind, and spirit. Their chief aim is to drive all foreigners out of China.
Muslim Kansu Braves - An ally of the Boxers, the Kansu are a group of Nationalist Muslims in Western China. They are allied with the Boxers. The Kansu are used as shock troops whether it be an ambush, front-line charge or assassination. Despite using modern weaponry and equipment, the Kansu army only wears Chinese armor and plays Chinese instruments. They enjoy utilizing older weaponry and cavalry. As their name tells, they are all Muslims.
Manchu Bannermen - A Semi-Nationalist Force in northern China. Right now, the Bannermen are split into two armies: One is tasked with defending Beijing, though whether it is from the Boxers or foreigners is up to the decision of the general. The other is tasked with preventing the huge Russian forces from invading through the North.
Foreign Factions: These are not all foreign factions, just those that lean towards the foreign powers.
Eight-Nation Alliance - The "Foreign Powers" contesting with the Nationalist forces, particularly the Boxers and Kansu Braves. Each of them has different goals, equipment, and leadership, so if you choose one, just state which one it is in your character sheet. The 8 nations are, in a list from greatest to least amount of soldiers and ships currently in China: Japan, Russia, The United Kingdom, France, The United States, Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy.
Pro-Foreign Chinese - These are Chinese citizens that have allied, joined, or at least support the foreign powers. Many Pro-Foreign Chinese are Christians, merchants or aristocracy.
Neutral: These factions side neither with the Nationalists or the foreign powers.
Neutral Chinese - Neither side has compelled you, you just want to survive, whether that means finding shelter in China or escaping elsewhere. It shall not be an easy task, and even if you do complete, your story will not end there.
Neutral Foreigner - You are a foreigner that does not from come one of the countries that is fighting the Nationalists. Thankfully, this means although both sides will eye you closely, they will not be openly hostile to you like they are to each other. Countries with a foreign presence in China and not in the Eight-Nation Alliance are places like Korea, The Philippines, Indonesia, India, Portugal, Spain, Holland, the Ottoman Empire, etc.. After you put "Neutral Foreigner" in your character sheet, add which country they are from. ((Ex. Neutral Foreigner: Australia))
Bandit - All turmoils, such as a war, have their opportunists. You are one of them. Whether you work alone or in a group is your decision, but your main goal in the end is to acquire as much wealth as possible without getting killed or imprisoned forever.
Religion: With the conflict between Spiritual Buddhist and Christians, Religion is a major factor of anyone's person. Even if your character is not particularly religious, they must have a religion as this is what they publicly declare themselves as.
Buddhist - The largest Chinese religion, which follows the ancient teachings of Buddha. All Boxers are Buddhists and Bannermen are Buddhists.
Protestant - All countries have their share of Protestants, a collective of non-Catholic Christians. They are mainly found in The U.K., The U.S., France, and Germany. A about a third of the Chinese Christians are Protestants.
Catholic - The other major form of Christianity found in many of the countries, the main difference with the Protestants being the Catholic's central head; the Pope. The countries with a large amount of Catholics are Italy, France, Germany, the U.K. and the U.S. A little over a third of Chinese Christians are Catholic.
Eastern Orthodox - The third form of Christianity present in the great rebellion. Easter Orthodox is very minor in most countries except for Russia, where it is a majority. Less than one percent of Chinese Christians are Eastern Orthodox, and most of them that are live in Northern China.
Islam - A religion that has come in through the Middle East that follows the teaching of the prophet Muhammad. All the Kansu Braves are Muslims, and nearly any foreigners from the Middle East.
Shintoism - A spiritual religion based around certain practices and beliefs involving supernatural and spiritual forces. It is native, and exclusive, to Japan. (Although not all Japanese are Shintoists; in Japan there is a fairly large Christian minority.)
Judaism - The oldest Abrahamic religion centered around the teaching of the Biblical Old Testament. No major country involved in the Boxer Rebellion has a Jewish majority, but every country has a sizable Jewish minority.
Other - If your character belongs to a minor religion, at least for being in China, in the space for your character's religion, put the name of their religion and a brief explanation of it. Fictional religions are okay, but nothing crazy. ((I.e., no worshiping pancakes or only marrying purple chickens. Spin-off religions and cults are good.))
Weapons:All characters will start out with two weapons, and in these two weapons they will be proficient. There are two types of starting weapons; Primary and Secondary. Primary is the default weapon, the one your character is most skilled with. Secondary weapons are side weapons, usually there to fill a purpose that the Primary can not. The Primary and Secondary weapons must be different.
Weapons will change based on Clan, Area and Biography. Note that these are only starting weapons: Characters can find and learn to use more.
Weapons are listed below, P means it can be only Primary, S means only secondary, PS can mean either.
Rifle (P) - A long barreled gun that can do damage at any range. At this point, many rifles are no longer single-shot, but repeating. They create the bulk of weaponry used by standard modernized infantries.
Sword (PS) - A blade that cuts into flesh, or stabs it through.
Spear (P) - One of the oldest weapons, a long stick with a pointed metal end. Some can be thrown, others are multi-edged.
Pistol (PS) - A smaller gun than the rifle. While not as accurate or powerful than the rifle, it is easier to draw and reload, making it very useful in close quarters.
Revolver (PS) - A handgun related to the pistol, the main difference being it's revolving cylinder ammunition chambers. It does not have the firing rate of the pistol, though it's shots have more impact.
Knife (S) - A blade that acts as a smaller sword. Has a variety of uses. Knives are very different depending on which country of origin they come from.
Bombs (S) - A sack of explosives used for multiple purposes. Varies greatly on country of origin.
Crossbow (PS) - The traditional Bow has been rendered obsolete due to the innovation of repeating rifles. However, due to it's specialization, the Crossbow has remained a useful axillary weapon. Unlike firearms, the Crossbow is almost completely silent. Also, since it uses arrows instead of bullets, it's shots can be loaded with things like explosives, incendiary devices and written letters.

Appearance: A blacked haired, smallish Chinese man. Has a battle-cut scar on his right cheek. Other than that, he looks pretty average.
Biography: Tsuo was born in a family of Han royalists. He grew to be a lawman, but decided to join the military instead. He was small for a soldier, so he wasn't a physical warrior. However, he has the heart of one, and will remain loyal and devoted to the Royal Family. Plus, he's a damn good shot. His received his battle-scar in a skirmish with some rebels when an explosive went off near him and a fragment sliced his face. This would not stop him from making sure the Empress was unharmed at any cost, even his own life.
