"I'm glad you're back from duty and all, Scott. But keep it quiet! It's still early and my family is sleeping."
"Sorry. It's Smith..." * "Sorry. I'm Scott..."
"Whatever. You both look the same. When you're done saying your hellows, meet me in the backyard. It's important."
"Woah woah woah? I'm sure I didn't hear that right, you have a family now? I've only been gone half a year!"Holding your gaze, Hefferson stands stock still. Then, with an eternity of patience, (was he trying to be tactful?) Hefferson shut the shutters. He just ignored the question! Concerned about what could be so 'important' you give Scott a questioning look. But he's too busy sighing at his shoes. The backyard answers your curiosity and quickly puts you on the same heartsick path as Scott.
You love this family more than anything and it hurts to see your father buried before his time. More so when you were off fighting for it. Hefferson clears his throat awkwardly.
"Mother... wrote a eulogy..."
* "She's such a bitch..."
"His wife is a witch?!"
"Just shut up and let me read it!"
"With glee I see the old guy died,"
...
* ...
"Hold on, what the hell? This poem better change it's tone, fast like."
"I should have proofread this before hand, sorry to have brought this to your grave, father. Sorry...
"Give me that damn parchment, father has a right to know!"With glee I see the old guy died,
He achieved nothing in life,
I was the idiots bride."
Scott notices Hefferson glaring back at the house and smartly decides to speak up.
* "...father also had your wife write a eulogy for him on his deathbed. He wanted us together when it was read aloud."
"Because he couldn't trust his wife to write one for him..." You nod in agreement.
"Flowers wilt petals scatter
Stems wither water splatters,
With my conflicted feelings put aside,
Did I love the vase or what was inside,
Our minds may shatter,
My love is what matters,
Just confide,
I will reside,
(Although I don't mean to flatter),
Inside your gray matter..."
Minutes pass in silence, everyone standing caught up in their own emotions and memories around the grave. That solemn moment is interrupted when three gray jays land on the grave marker. They act in an unnatural way that demands nothing less but your undivided attention. Your fingers start sliding across your belt to your bayonet. As your fingers reach the hilt, the birds, as one, take wing and fly peacefully towards all of you.
Attempt speech with bird.

Do you hold out hand with pointed finger for bird to land on?
