As much as I loved populous (and pretty much everything bullfrog touched) I don't think I can bring myself to back a kickstarter that has "get an unlock code for an exclusive GODUS god power" as one of the backer options, particularly when the video talks about multiplayer so much.

I guess Molyneux kind of goes off the deep end: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/22/peter-molyneuxs-tears-i-still-believe-so-much/#more-132865

Crying, something about expecting to be dead at any moment. Don't get me wrong, I like true believers when it comes to game development. Fanatics aren't exactly my type though, especially ones where their grip seems slightly precarious.

Yeah, Molyneux scares me too.  I'd love to see a new populous, but I don't think I could bring myself to trust my money to him.

Sorry Peter.

That said, populous 3 was really awesome. Holy carp, the morphable terrain alone beats games released 20 years later -_-

I don't get this.  Every Molyneux game that I've played has been either enjoyable (Powermonger, Theme Park, Fable) or extremely enjoyable (Dungeon Keeper, the Populous games, Black & White, The Movies, Fable 2).  Maybe it's because I've never been exposed to the hype (only really started paying attention to gaming media in the last couple of years), but I've found these to all be bloody good games that are often fairly unique.

I might pay £35 for this...

You know, when it comes out and it turns out to be great.

Actually, I think the one's you've listed there are mostly good. Have you played B&W2 and Fable III?
I've played Theme Park (a bit overrated imo but decent), DK II (fantastic) Pop : The Beginning (fantastic), B&W1 (fantastic) and The Movies (pretty great).

I'm not a bit fan of the Fable series, but that's just me. B&W2 was complete ass though. It wasn't a terrible game, but the fact that it took an awesome game and completely changed the whole %*!&ing gameplay mechanics was a giant kick in the pants. :(

Have you played Black & White 2 and Fable 3? Those were pretty awful. He's recently gone sort of senile with the kinect Fable game and the Milo... thing. And his latest effort, Curiosity, is something out of a fever dream.

I haven't played Fable 3 but didn't find Black & White 2 to be a bad game, even if it was a step or five down from the original.  It might be worth bearing in mind that both of these games were made under publishers so there may have been a fair bit of executive meddling.  Particularly Fable 3, is there anything EA can't fuck up these last few years?

Curiosity is more of an experiment than a game.  I can't help but feel it's unfair to judge him on that when the purpose is quite obvious not to entertain.  Hell, it might be intended specifically to not entertain.

E: Not that I'm suggesting everybody throw their life savings at his Kickstarter (do that to Maia instead plz).  The mobile thing has got me a little concerned and I'll be waiting for more details/media before I even consider throwing some cash down for this.  I've not written it off yet though, mobiles can be pretty damn powerful these days.

Why does an AAA company guy need a kickstarter anyway? Polling for interest?

I'm glad I'm not the only person in the world that feels this way.

I love Molyneux, even with his history of vastly under delivering. His games end up entertaining despite the lack of promised features.  I enjoyed Fable 3 (with the exception of a few spots where framerate was god awful) and don't feel as though it was a waste of money. I really don't understand why B&W 2 was so unpopular - it was a lot more accessible than 1. At least the creature behaved a little better.

Going to put this one as a "watch with caution"

They've released what is a video of the rough prototype, viewed on the shaky cam over someone's shoulder. It shows what looks like a whirlpool god power that kills a few dozen people they have running around on the landscape. (I'm not able to watch the video with sound atm.)

It's more than they had to offer originally, I guess. Still not reaching for my wallet yet.

I have to say the man scared me. Reading that RPS interview, the whole reason that provoked such a strong reaction from him completely flew over my head. That and the death comment was off putting to say the least.

Regardless I still believe in Molyneux. The man dares to dream big in his concepts and features, not satisfied with the current trends and standards. I honestly don't know if that's a good thing, after all, you need it to spark innovation, or if it's a foolish quality, the man constantly has failed to deliver on his visions. I guess it can be argued both ways. Though in my opinion his latest games aren't exactly bad games. They're good, hell, they're very good. The Fable series is riding up there with the big boys in terms of fun I've had with the rpg genre. But it's just the bitterness of being promised vanilla sundae and instead getting a banana twist, with most of the banana missing. Or in this case, the missing real-time growth of trees and their individual leaves. And I'm not entirely sure as to the reason why, the man's earlier games are still classics. Was it pressure from the publishers? Hell, Paradox basically destroyed Sword of the Stars 2 by releasing it in an alpha state, among other games.

But back to Godus, I hope it gets funded, 15 quid isn't much for a new god game, and the genre is starved and neglected to begin with. And knowing Moly, it'll at least be good and enjoyable.

I have to concede that many of Peter game were *GREAT* game, the problem is that NO game turned out as he was describing it when it started.

Fable would be a fine game by itself, if it were not for the oh so many promises lost in the development. I mean, not lost. Peter fulfilled most of what he was letting us dream, in a twisty way. I remember the quote 'the player will be able to plant a tree and see it grow as the game evolves' which is actually happen in Fable but in a completely different way than what it was hinted. (that is, you can plant only that tree, and only that tree grows in the game world)

If I got black and white 2 without knowing the first and the Peter narrative about it, it would have been awesome. Still it was not what I looked forward when I bought it.

This is why I will stand away from preordering or founding anything from him. I will probably end buying it, after it has been around for a while and people actually knows what is this all about.
