I can count on one abstract set of mental appendages with superficial relation to the concept of a hand the number of people who wouldn't wish this on at least one person they know.

People pray for the cessation of suffering, but when the suffering stays they pray for the destruction of a human source of that suffering. If the source is brought low, then they begin to suffer as well, so with some careful management we could have an exponentially growing cult whose members compete to be the most devoted so that the people they hate suffer the most.

Also, we can have multiple cults. Cassandra's dream-addicts can just be a different sect, and the same goes for the Golden one's false prophet, though that one would require a lot more effort on our part.
