Ok yeah, so it's not demons in this version. But it's the same basic problem. What we do have a clearly visible rodent/bat man infestation under our retirement home. >:(
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I suppose you could clear that out with an adventurer. But there are also significantly easier haxploit methods of removing them from existence that wouldn't take weeks of the player's time. Namely, the SLAYRACE and AUTODUMP commands (or just SLAYRACE MAGMA, magma solves everything). I'd assume killing all of them would at least prevent them from multiplying further, but I could be wrong.

Edit: Well, turns out I am wrong. Kill all the mooks and they still reappear in twice the numbers next time you visit the site. Releasedsouls is currently unplayable and it's only going to get exponentially worse everytime someone uses the site. Someone needs to 'bug' Toady about this because it is downright insane.

Well, I can't say I have any idea what to do about that. That's probably going to be an issue.

Reilnur and HugoLuman have both been added to the list.

If you find any workarounds please pm me. Been trying a lot of stuff already (wiping units and later items (had 450000 items) help for that time) but nothing helps. Seems to be related to group spawns (i.e. spawns them with their items etc...)

So that's why it was so slow for me when I retired there...

Thanks for listing me!

I've never been able to find cave people in adventure mode, I'd very much like to recruit one. But clearing them out could be the work of the next turn, if they were so inclined.

I wouldn't switch to Arena mode, ever. It disables saving.

Good luck clearing out 7000 animal people when every tick takes 5 minutes (not an exaggeration) to load. :P

Only if you switch from Adventurer to Arena Mode (Controlling Adventurer). Otherwise, you'll have no problems with it.

So, just to be clear, does using Slayrace make them duplicate? Or just obsidianizing them?

You could also try the new region-pops feature in dfhack to make sure they don't come back.

Neither of those things has anything to do with them duplicating.

I'll see if I can't get region-pops to do the trick though.
Edit: Seems the region pop and the site pop are completely separate from each other. Rodent men are listed as having 310 peeps and batmen aren't listed at all, so I doubt changing it would affect anything.

Yikes, I didn't realize there was such a problem! If I manage to get my second adventurer to survive to the retirement home, I hope I manage to make it to my room. Otherwise we can certainly amend the rules so you can just retire as soon as you step onto the property.

First adventurer died embarrassingly quickly yesterday. Going to play the second one right now so I don't let time get away from me again. Will write a story for each of them in penance for running over my week.

I actually recommend not visiting the site at all, and retiring somewhere else, at least until we (hopefully) figure out a solution. The population will skyrocket from 7500 to 15000 the next time someone visits (and then 30000 after that), making it somehow even less playable than it is now. In my case, DF just completely freezes up when booting up a retired adventurer and trying to move them a single space.

Well it's moot anyway, since I just died again. Uploading the save - it will take a while because my upload speed is atrocious. Will post stories soon.

EDIT: And the upload is finally complete! http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7500

Note: I do NOT recommend starting as a human of Ivikpesor. There is NOTHING to do in that region at all. All of the quests have been long completed. Try starting further away.

Stories to come soon, possibly later today, we'll see, I need a computer break for the moment.

Here's an idea:
1.Reclaim the retirement home.
2.Kill off all the animal men in the caverns using DFHack's Slayrace command or by applying magma using the 'liquids' command.
3.Once they're all dead, fill the entire cavern(s) with obsidian spawned using DFHack's 'liquids' command.
Hopefully, this will solve the problem.
I guess you could also try moving all of the items into the cavern via autodump command before filling with obsidian, though I'm not sure if that will work.

...by Armok it worked! Eureka! Excuse me while I upload a purified version of Sappho's save...
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7502
It only took erasing the entirety of the underground and hell itself (which was also filled with a ton of demons, basic reveal just didn't show them), but the retirement home is now running smooth like it never did before.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I recommend players avoid sleeping on-site, as the bug is not quite fully slain and still seems to contribute massive, ever-increasing loading times to entering/leaving the site. Possibly game-breakingly so within 7 or 8 visits

Excellent job, Spish and Pie Maker! I'm extremely glad that you came up with a solution. Is that save after Sappho's turn?

Aye, the fix was applied to the most recent save. You forgot to add me to the turn list, by the way >:(
