Author Topic: Need to find a cable with one consolidated YPbPr (Component) plug  (Read 5493 times)

I needed a new TV, so I made sure to buy one with Component input capabilities, after learning I had spent all my young life playing PS2 games on the vastly inferior Composite video format.

But there's a problem: the TV input is a single socket, labelled YPbPr. Through many searches, I've come to find that the norm for Component is actually three video plugs, plus two for stereo audio.

Component input is rare in the UK and this was the only TV I could find that even mentioned supporting it. I'd like to know if anyone has suggestions for what exactly I should be searching for, then; what keywords should I be using? Do I need an adaptor? What's up with my weird TV, and will I still get the same quality picture expected of a normal 3-plug Component cable in a single plug?

Thanks for any advice.

What kind of plug/socket is it? If it's 4 pins, it's a mislabelled S-Video. If it's a 9-10 pin socket that looks similar to S-Video, it's a VIVO port (though I've only ever seen them on graphics cards) and you'll need an adapter. If it's the same as a single component plug (and normally yellow), it's a mislabelled composite port.

EDIT: Googling found this: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1639542

Aha! That link looks like exactly what I need. The socket is just a single jack (sorry if my inexperienced use of the terminology was confusing). It seems like that Samsung cable is the only one that exists-- how bizarre. I'll have to find one on Ebay or something.

Thanks for your help!
