Never Had A Siege
« on: November 18, 2012, 03:45:08 pm »

Any of you guys ever done a fortress and never, ever got a siege? I mean, like playing for years and never get one siege, or even an ambush? I'm really curious if something like that can happen, since my own fort I've spent a lot of time in has been going for years and not gotten a single siege, even after I've tweaked races so they siege much earlier. Curious if I should just abandon it and start over near an enemy civ or something.

Did you checked if other civs could find it using tab in embark map before embarking?

And yes, it's happened to me a lot, a few times intentionally by finding a niche where enemies can't find me.

Haven't done that, but I have no doubt they can reach it. There aren't any civs on islands and I'm nestled in around a bunch of different civs, and I'm on extremely bad terms with at least three other civs.

I've only played about two dozen times total, but yes, one game I went many years before the first siege.  They were pretty nasty after that :-)

I'm in a similar situation.  I had one siege of one squad of goblins, and nothing else after that.  No ambushes, no sieges, no snatchers... nothing but two minotaurs and a kobold thief.  This is weird for me...

Well... Kinda. Necromancers sieged my Fort and even though they're all (supposedly) dead, my Fort is still apparently under siege. The result is no traders ever show up, and I can never export wealth.
Thus, the butterfly effect completes, and I get no goblin sieges ;(

In order to trigger ambushes you have to have at least one of the following:
1)Have 20 dwarves
2)Export 25000☼
3)Produce 25000☼
If you haven't done any of these goblins won't show up, and even if you have it might take them a couple of years if they are far from your fortress.

In order to trigger sieges you must have a population of at least 80 dwarves. Nothing else will trigger goblin sieges in vanilla.

Are you surrounded by mountains?  Those can block non-dwarf civs from you, too.

Are Werebeast sieges different, or if you can get a goblin siege you can get a werebeast one?

The first time I made a fortress on an island this happened. No migrants beyond the first two waves, or merchants, either.

Islands suck :(

I still receive traders and migrants on an island without anyone, as long as the embark map doesn't encompass the whole island with no land borders off the screen(which seems to be coded to never happen).

That means a necromancer is still hiding somewhere on your map

Werebeasts don't siege, they appear on the map randomly like Titans with no limitations. Usually they run away unless they're actually in Were-form, in which case they rampage and THEN run away.

I played a fort that didn't get attacked for about 4 years but then a giantess or female giant attacked needless to say my military was weak because I wasn't  being attack by other civ's ended up losing the fort to tantrum spirals because the giant killed about seven of my dwarfs. So if you think not getting a Siege  is bad just wait for the random monster and mega beast attacks they are "Fun".   ;D

I had two human and a dwarf necromancer siege before.
I slew the first in battle, drowned the second one after caging him, and dug a very special 30Z deep pit for the third. Back to death for you, raisers of yak hair!
