Looking for some VN recommendations
« on: November 18, 2012, 03:12:00 pm »

I've been playing some VNs recently and am looking for some more. Anyone got any they'd recommend? Preferably free ones, but I'm willing to drop some small amounts of cash if they're really good.

Already played:
Katawa Shoujo
Digital: A Love Story
don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story
Analogue: A Hate Story

I can't actually speak for them, having never played them, but the fate/stay night stuff has generated some excellent fanfiction, and some neat anime/manga stuff. I think it's got a bit of "adult" material in 'em, but they're supposed to be pretty decent despite it.

999

Have yet to play Virtue's Last Reward. Or 999 either, but ToonyMan's a connoisseur of good VNs, so I'm taking his word for it.

If you don't have a DS, then you will have to emulate and do shady stuff. D:

While some of FSN is good the problem is that it is bloated beyond all belief.  You could cut about 90% of it without losing anything relevant or interesting.  So many long and boring lectures, with the voices it can be a good sleeping aid though sometimes.

If you're into mystery there's 07th Expansion (Higurashi and Umineko), the 999 ones and Ace Attorney.  The 07th ones both have ridiculously long free trials which is nice.  There's also Dangan Ronpa but that's only available in English via LP at the moment and may or may not require an SA account.

"Sekien no Inganock" along with the rest of the "What a Beautiful" series if you want some steampunk.

I especially like those with different endings.
But very much dislike those with no choices at all.
And I hate those where the main character is a complete jerk.

A lot of people recommend G-senjou no Maou. I have played through some of it, and it seems absolutely amazing so far.

Sadly, I don't have a DS and don't have much inclination to ever buy one. Emulation might be possible, but I've never found a decent DS one.

I guess I should also point out that you shouldn't bother naming it if there's no English version/patch or if I can't actually get it in the UK.
