I can't really blame people for wanting to open up more ways to donate to Toady. The problem's some stuffs just don't works very well or fits in the long-term scheme ( Kickstarter's too short-termed for DF project )

And then the thread gets bumped because I feel that the thread I am linking is about the safety, and legitimacy of the bitcoin.
If it is generally argued that it is fairly legit then well, it may be an okay idea to allow Bitcoin donations.

Generally the problem at the time of this posting, or rather, edit, are the economic aspects of the bitcoin. The problem being volatility, which generally decreases with the increase of adopters, or users of the bitcoin.

Bitcoins are sad. They're used by crazy people who have interesting ideas about value and currency, and also drug dealers. It's a sophisticated system commandeered by hipsters that has zero function in our society. Yes, they can have value to a buyer. So can anything. If I had a nickel for every faithfully drawn 256x256 .png file I've created I would be about $7 richer. Do we want to donate in lovely artworks? No. Do we want to donate in gold bullion? No. I guarantee you'll be able to find a buyer for gold at any time, but that doesn't make carrying around a pocketful of gold nuggets any less stupid.

Well then, you keep saying that you can have something to offset value, but it doesn't have the same value as the actual service or product you can buy with it, and that it is silly to associate the currency/medium with the actual value in service/product.

Hasn't that happened in the past with hyperinflation? Hasn't that happened in the past with most if not all currencies?

Couldn't you simply cash in the artwork through commissions into a more useful medium?
[ EDIT ] The basis of any currency, or even the economy is that people will do x [service] to get y [something associated with value], or use y [something associated with value] to get x [services], or y1 [something associated with value].

I disaggree with the argument "you can only buy drugs, hookers and child porn with BTC"... ATM Bitcoins arent very widely used but yo can already buy a lot of services ranging from VPS to artworks and flowers, even supporting churches:

All these people place a value in the bitcoins and they run legal services so "toady would be the only way to legally spend bitcoins" is a fallacy.

If you want to donate to Toady convert your bitcoins to real money.  What's so confusing about that?

I can generally give two reasons.

One. Paypal has disallowed services for over 60 countries, apparently.
Two. Bitcoin is an upward trending stock item, donations in bitcoin is more or less free stock, which can be cashed in for a reasonable sum, or left to the machines of the stock exchange.

Anyways, it doesn't stop a person from spamming donations of less than $.30, or from donating in arbitrary forms of real money, or pay him in gold bullion, through the P.O box.
Nor does it stop him from arguably returning you services in the form of game development of a long, indevelopment, alpha-beta, donationware game, crayon drawings, mini-stories, and a tribute on the donation page.

And past that, there is still more that you could talk about.
