Mark Dixon's Journal
"I enjoyed that bold young woman last night. She was one of the brave enough to try to run. Should keep her for my personal use. Heh enjoying women, one of the many thing that we were banned to do in the old world. Our genome was copyrighted and shouldn't slip away. Copyrighted... Damned bastards. And now this hypocrites beg for mercy and respect. They created supreme beings and now they'll learn their place. But first I must ensure their survival and proper housing for the "cattle"

100 soldiers hunting, exploring the area , looking for good fishing spots.

75 soldiers, half of the slaves - cut one of the escape pods for metal (use lasers to cut metal) and start making makeshift tools: shovels, axes, daggers, nails, fishing spears, hammers and so on. Also, this group should smoke excess meat if hunt is good

50 soldiers : Setuping natural traps(Rembo style) around the camp, both for hunting, keeping intruders away and keeping slaves inside.

75 soldiers, half of the slaves : Build simple wooden huts

In addition to clearing and tilling the land in the valley, we also need to get some dwellings built, and continue to get food, so we've assigned 800 of your followers to do those various tasks.  We've also got people looking for the independent settlements, to find allies and bring them enlightenment.  We've also got some people working on equipment for a militia, and we've been informed that the House Argonian landed near by, so we've sent them an envoy, to hopefully create peace and prosperity between our peoples.  Everyone not otherwise occupied has been sent out to continue mapping the surrounding country and finding possible strategic resources.

Please watch over us and give us your wisdom, O' Lord of the creations of man.

250 quarry stone
250 start to mine city into mountain
200 prepare valley for farming
100 fish
50 contact other settlements
25 to design, build weapons & armour for militia
25 to be an envoy to House Argonian
rest continue scouting countryside

750 support staff and 3000 civilians are to finish converting 4 pods into production facilities then dismantle the 7 damaged pods and use the facility that is up and running to turn it all into raw materials to complete production of the other 4.

Bring the operational facility to 20 support staff and 100 civilian staff and assign the same again to each of the 4 facilities as they come online, they are to send 250 metal axes to the infantry before anything else, once the facilities are online all wood being brought in is to be sent to 1 facility and turned into sharped stakes as large as my wall.

Then 75 support staff and 400 civilians are to take the pod closest to gap in the wall at the river and convert it into a water purification facility, they are to use additional parts from the damaged pods that are being broken down and converted and bring the facility online as soon as it is able, they are to place no less then 12 water containers within the facility to store fresh water.

Send 4 choppers out in each direction for 8 hours leaving at dawn, they are to return before night fall with a full report, if they locate any settlements one is to land and deliver a radio set to a specific channel and then radio me to inform me.

The heavies, infantry and marines are to head out and begin cutting down trees, the 250 infantry with axes to cut the rest to drag the trees back to town.

Half of the snipers are to stand guard around the men the other half are to escort groups back to town with the trees to ensure nothing sneaks up on them.

Tanks are to maintain a defensive perimeter around the city.

Myself, the royal marines and the final 50 support workers and 100 civilians are to set aside 1/3 of the towns space that is not built on and to begin planting crops on it straight away, I also attempt to contact anybody possible on my radio every 4 hours going through all channels.

75 support staff are to begin work on an electric engine for all forms of armed vehicle and chopper.

All miners are to devote their time to getting ores, a 1/10 of their time should be devoted to gathering some of the stone for use as well.
500 people are gather supplies and make some logging tools.
500 People are to use what we have on hand, and the influx of tools to start a logging operation to supply the town with lumber for mine supports and such.
1000 people are to begin work on preparing some nearby land for farming as best they can.
Use felled trees from the logging operation to create walls between the colony pods, there are to be three gaps left in this wall to be later replaced with gates.
Work up a rough draft of the current supplies, and the possibilities of setting up a factory through modern or ancient means
Send ten militia and twelve drones to make contact with any nearby settlements.
The remainder of the citizens are to carry out their daily lives, and try to help improve the current living conditions as best they can.

Organize into nine groups of 500 adults each. Have each group divide into ten teams. Have each team divide into five, um...subteams.
One group scouts the area for anything of note, and gathers samples of local plant species for testing.
Three groups will attempt to pool their knowledge of agriculture and the info in the computers to figure out how to make farms. These groups will be given 75 robots each.
Everyone else will work on setting stuff up. Each group will be given 35 robots to help them.

The 4,000 technicians are contained within the 5,000 total population, not separate from it. Just FYI.

To: Captain Lance Cook
From: Admiral Mask
RE: Back in Action

There are two minor settlements to the west unfortunate enough to exist in our immediate vicinity. They will face our wrath. I am taking the whole fleet, 250 of our raiders to fight, and 250 of our expendable unskilled workers to operate the boats.

I intend to make an example out of the first settlement. Neptune's Hand will reach out from the beaches via hovercraft at midnight and remove it from the face of the world. We will attack hard and fast, overtaking them while they sleep, taking what we can and burning the rest. All adult males (and females who chose to defend themselves) will be killed, and the rest will be taken as slaves. Hopefully they have lots of food to take.

The second settlement will be made to capitulate. I intend to bombard it from the destroyer until it offers a generous ransom in food and wealth or is reduced to dust. I will keep the interceptors close by to defend the destroy on the off chance they have boats or planes to fight back with.

With the men you have left at port you are to maintain the farm, and fire up some old school bullet shooting weapons on the forge for hunters to hunt with, slave drivers to drive with, and civilians to use in a pinch.

...

RE: Ummm... This is awkward

I was hoping your would respond to my previous message quickly, and sign a non-agression pact before hunger drove me to attack other settlements, perhaps giving you a poor first impression of us.... Still, pay no heed to the fate that may befall our other neighbors. Attacking somebody with your industrial capability and population would be stupid, so I would never do so unprovoked.

Still, lets hurry up and formally agree not the screw with each other, before our subordinates turn to fear-mongering to turn our people against each other.

Cheers,

Using our GM technology, infect the rodents with a species-limited infertility disease. Keep a few specimens in quarantine from the disease just in case. Furthermore, modify some of the turtles to provide infertile eggs for daily consumption.

Get labourers to construct a makeshift moat and palisade from wood; pump water from the now flooded chamber into the moat.

Create a proper aqueduct system for the crops.

Sends soldier/labourer/scientist recon teams to find a suitable source of metals.

April: The first year

The Vanguard
You tried spreading a special disease under the rodents, but it's of no avail. The disease doesn't appear to catch, at least not for the majority of the population. Meanwhile the rodents continue to be a problem, as they have infiltrated allmost all prefab facilities, and are started to be a serious problem for the population.
Modification of the turtles is much more effective, and should be finished next month if progress continues as expected.
Construction of the moat/ pallisade continues fast and is quickly finished, drainage systems are set up and installed, and soon the moat is filled. Overflow from the moat and river is redirected towards the fields,  in order to function as irrigation system.
The land's mostly made up from grassy field and gentle slopes. No sources of metal are found, nor any promising spots. You troops do think they caught a glimpse of a flying thing dissappearing into the distance.

((Any special ideas for the plants being farmed?))

HTI
The localities are rather interesting. Several different species of fruittrees are found, as well as some interesting bushes that might be farmed. However, from the distance a large flock of bird is seen. They're headed in the general direction of the colony.
When your scouts return, they find the others have progressed well with their farms, seeding a form of natural wheat that seems to be frequent in the are. Unfortunately, the birds arrive a few hours later destroying a large part of the farms.
The rest of the settlement focusses on picking apart the colony pod to build some improvised housing.

A radio message from someone claiming to be leader of the Royal Marines has arrived.

Followers of the Machine God

A quarry is constructed, and you have started to mine stone. Moving the stone was rather problematic, but creating a few basic carts was well within the capabilities of our fabricators.
Mining into the mountain went well, and progress on the city is well underway. Already we have exavated quarters for around 100 people, hidden behind a long corridor which can later hold our defensive network.
Preparation of the valley for farming goes well and without much mayor problems. A few local plants have been found that could be viable for planting
Scouts have found another settlement downriver. They appear to be fairly isolationistic, as guessed from the warning shots they gave. No communication has been established.
Production of weaponry goes slowly. The fabricator is only designed for spare parts, and as such getting it to turn out complicated tools is rather hard. Luckily, a nearing energy shortage was narowly averted. An ingenious mind managed to return the shuttle's power generator to function, and it will provide a steady if low amount of power.
Exploration of the countryside is slow, and nothing new is found. Sure, there are a lot of prety panorama's and some nice waterfalls, but nothing else interesting. What is indeed nice to note is that people report seeing a drone takeoff and later return from the earlier found concrete facility.

People are send to the North, where reputedly more colony pods should have landed. They managed to make it through and find the settlement without problems. It belongs to house Argonian. You could have used the radio equipment in the pods though.

House Argonian

A large mining operation is set up. Several tunnels are dug into the mountain side, and the rich ore is extracted and delivered in the town. Equally important are the goods going the other way, loads of timber and supports for the mines. All in all, within a few weeks you have any efficient mining operation set up.

On the other side of the colony fields are being plowed and prepared for planting.
Construction of the wall is well underway, though the iron ore mine is way to far away to be incorporated in the wall. The fields have also been left outside.

There's a large supply of stone, iron and wood avaible, and enough food to last us a few months. Setting up a crude ironworking facility is possible, but an energy shortage might cause problems soon enough. While the Hydroponics system has a seperate powersupply, which will last it a few months, the colony pods don't have this luxury, and will run out soon.

Your men manage to find 3 other settlements. There's a small settlement composed out of 3 colony pods to the North. To the west, another colony pod has been seen. Those moving too the East have also found a pod, but it was completely abandonned and looted.

Last but not least are represenatives of those who call themselves the followers of the Machine god, which apparently has a settlement to the South. You found them just outside the settlement.

The Lawmakers

The hunt goes exceptionally well, and over the days lot's of meat is brought into the camps. Snakes, reptilians and other beast, all at least as large as a grown male. While we can kill them easily thanks to our ambushes and weaponry, a straight on attack would be dangerous, especially with our energy reserves dwindling. As such, some have taken to develop other combat methods. While most easily fail, the most stupid one managed to succeed. One soldier succesfully jumped onto a giant lizard, and wrestled it into submission. It's currently kept in a primitive cage.

Cutting the pod apart to make makeshift tools goes well, and soon a basic supply of tools is secured. It's only enough for a good 50 men, or hundred if they share, but it should do.

Setting up the traps proves difficult. A few traps are constructed, but most are rapidly destroyed when the large wildlife from the forest marches through.

Lots of primitive huts are constructed, filling the open space in the forest with ease. Thanks to their roofs made from leaves, they are decently camouflaged in the forest environement.

Royal Marines Incorporated

Construction of basic factory workshops proceeds as planned, and soon they are up and running.

The factories are quickly manned, and production of metal axes is swiftly finished.

Construction of a water filtration machine is easy. The system put into place uses several filters to extract water from the river, then runs the result through another series of filtrations systems before boiling and recondensing it. The water is then stored into the now redundant oxygen and  rocket fuel tanks, after these have been cleaned.

One village is found, from what the chopper can see, it's made up from just one colony pod, and the people around it are unarmed.

You set up a small farm on some of the town square's, but it's immedialty clear that it will never be enough to feed everyone. Nevertheless, there's nothing you can do but try.(( Also, what sort of plants are you trying to plant.))

You send a radiomessage on several different frequencies. You don't get an immediate response, but it should have been heard by a wide range of people. However, with some ingenuity they know also know your location.

While the staff manage to get a crude electric engine working, it still contains several major flaws before it can be used. (Strength vs weight/ size, energy consumption, heat production, energy storage)

An urgent matter arises though, several of the people who have been working in the forests have come back home with a strange disease. They feel letharhic, have fevers and throw up frequently. Red dots on their skin suggest insect bites. On another note, what appears to be a small mechanical drone is rapidly approaching from the south west.

Neptune's Hand

Our hovercrafts suprise the settlement, and after a short fight all resistance is broken. The enemy appeared to have nothing but basic stun guns used for calming wildlife, so there were no casualties on our side. We managed to loot a fair bit of food, and some boxes filled with seeds. Nothing else interesting was found, so we gathered some  firewood and lighted the single colony pod on fire. The smoke was visible for kilometers around.
(+1 turn supply of food, +seeds, +stun guns,+ 100 female slaves)

The attack on the second settlement is equally succesfull. The psychological effect of the smoke, the radio rumours and the impact of several railgun shells nearby their fields (our targetting system appears to be badly calibrated) were enough to make them surrender. They offer you everything they have in food(except that what they need for themselves) as well as some of their riches. Attacking them directly would be more problematic. The settlement is made up from at least 5 colony pods, and they do appear to have real guns.
(Surrender offer: 1.5 month food supply, +600 wealth)

Creating the guns proves problematic, especially the production of ammunition. For now most weapons work electric, with only the minority requiring bullets.

The farms are growing well, and the harvest should come next month.

4 choppers, all heavies and 50 royal marines are to go to the village and inform them that they are welcome to join me in the town, if they refuse soldiers are to restrain them and bring them to me by force if required and to strip all resources down to the last food ration from the village and bring it back with them making several trips if necessary, including dismantling buildings and the pod.

100 support staff and 500 civilians are to continue working in the factories.

Devote 135 support staff and 2500 civilians to planting and expanding the farm land. Plant seeds for wheat, corn, potatoes and any possible vegetables, they are to plant as much of the open ground in the city as is possible or until they have enough planted to sustain a population of 10000. ( I know I only have 8000 I'm planning ahead. )

Devote 5 support staff to studying the power facility to look for ways to increase it's output and learn how to build more generators

100 support staff and 1000 civilians are to use stored metal to cover the defensive wall in a metal skin.

100 support staff are to design and build a prototype automated defense turret using energy based weaponry.

100 support staff are to continue work on electronic engines.

Quarantine the infected in an unoccupied building and have 25 support staff with medical training monitor them and attempt to treat the disease and create a vaccine for it, they are to capture bugs as required for testing.

All infantry are to strip two more pods for metals and equipment and have it turned into raw material.

All factories are to be used to produce mesh face masks and gloves for my entire population, 10 APC ( tracked ) 10 transport choppers capable of carrying 30 people each but no engines until electronic engines are ready to go, medical equipment to be sent to the staff dealing with the sick men and enough tables and chairs for my entire population to be placed within the pre existing buildings.

10 support staff and 250 civilians are to divert some water flow to the fields as they are planted to design an irrigation system to increase farming yield.

3 Pods are to be converted into 2 factories and 1 storage facility for armored vehicles of all kinds by 425 support staff and 100 royal marines.

All infantry are to strip two more pods and have them converted into raw materials.

4 choppers and 5 heavy tanks are to block the drone approaching and attempt to make contact or drive it off, once done choppers return to base and tanks join the forces heading out to the village.

All remaining tanks are to maintain positions on entrances into town. they are to be shut down until such time as something approaches the town to conserve fuel.

All marines are to begin searching for a source of stone and metal in the area around the city along with all snipers.

4 choppers are to survey the entire island looking for native creatures, other colonies, and any sources of raw materials or other towns or cities that have been constructed by drones or that pre date the drones.

At the end of this turn everybody present is to receive 2 extra rations of food and water rationing is to be canceled now that we have a stable source of water, everybody is to be gathered together in a series of large buildings for a large communal meal to improve morale and I am to give a speech to every group in turn praising the hard work and dedication of all my citizens, any new residents are welcome to attend but will be monitored if force was required to bring them in.

If electronic engines are completed and made fully operational factories are to produce and install them in every single armored vehicle I possess and to build recharging station within the storage facility once all other production is completed.

Send heavy tanks to join the infantry marching to the village, choppers are to follow the drone until it has passed by my city, if it enters the city and attempts to do any damage or make any changes of any kind choppers are to destroy it.
If it is peaceful 4 choppers and 8 light tanks are to form a perimeter around it and I will attempt to make contact.

To the settlement activities Director, Engineer Second class Douglas Adams:
Well, in response to the seeming problems with the fabrication of firearms, perhaps it would be prudent to use the replicator to build the parts needed for a true factory, in piecemeal, of course.  Further, I would ask that we continue our ventures in farming, and we should start to plant as soon as possible.  As for the digging and quarrying, lets see if we can't find some of those ores in the area, and lets continue to expand the settlement inside the mountain, and shore up what needs to be shored up with the stone we mined previously.  Radio the settlement of House Argonian to inform them that these are envoys to their settlements, as well as asking for the formation of a peace treaty, along with the possibility of introducing a trade agreement.
We also need a long term power supply, since the generators in the pod and shuttle could be failing soon, so why don't we ask the Argonians if they could help us with that, as well as drawing up plans for a steam engine, since we have an ample supply of both wood and water.  Also, lets use the radios to contact any other settlements, and approach any that will allow us to, and see if anyone finds that drone that lifted off.  The one that shot at us will be left alone for now.
As for the building, I would advise sending a small volunteer scout force into it to determine it's purpose, and if it's any use to our colonization efforts.

P.S.  As for the message we received from these 'Royal Marines', inform them that we received the message, but do not reveal our identity or our location until we are able to get some envoys in there, from the name we can infer that these are the mercs that were on the Unity, so having good relations with them would give us a strong military ally, and the possiblity of being able to expand our sphere of influence far beyond this one continent soon that expected.  We shall arrange to have a team of envoys sent over there to asses the situation.

250 continue quarry
300 mine out more housing
200 start to plant crops
50 design factory
50 design steam generator
5 start to engage diplomatic relations with House Argonian/contact these Royal Marine's shumcks/search for other colonies (ask about mysterious drones showing up, it/they may have come from the facility we spotted
25 at Argonian settlement to stay as envoys (if they allow it)
10 to attempt infiltration of concrete building
Have the rest pitch in where they can

Mark Dixon's Journal
"Everything looks good, our little settlement expands and still we got no real problems.Slaves becoming more and more obedient, I think they understood that they'll not survive in the jungle without us. Speaking of slaves, that Girl, Maya. She is... smart. I never expected that female can be so interesting to talk. She gave me some nice ideas in reorganization how to reorganize our little society. And she is right, slaves aren't tough enough and deserve a rest."

50 soldiers, 100 male slaves, 200 female slaves - Make bows, arrows and throwing spears

50 soldiers, up to 100 female slaves - Offer some women to become huntresses in exchange for some privileges (right to choose a husband (or have none), better food, better house, right to carry a bow\spear. But they should know attempt to run away or use weapons against masters will end in horrible death. ) then start training them with occasional practice

50 soldiers - guard the camp

100 soldiers - Hunt more, try to find some reptilian eggs. Begin slowly switching to bows\spears, using real weapon in extreme situations

300 female slaves: cooking, various housework,  smoking excess meat for storage

400 female slaves: Rest and "entertain" soldiers

50 soldiers - create 10 scouting groups armed with mix of assault rifles, bows, spears and laser guns. Give them some smoked meat and send them in all direction for a month long trips. They should look mostly for new sources of food and potential threats

Mix:
Start spending booze to recharge laser guns
Gather informations about slaves' skills
Monitor sings of pregnancy, pregnant will get special treatment

Begin construction of a trio of windmills inside the walls, they shall be a source of power for the fledgling civilization
Devote 400 more people to the mining operations
Man all existing operations, and structures with the necessary workers.
Get a census of the people who do not have work in the existing operations or facilities.
Welcome the new arrivals with open arms, explain that the drones are remnants from Earth, have an escort of twenty militia follow these envoys to ensure their protection and ensure that our technological secrets are kept secret.
Plant the fields 3/4ths food, and 1/4th cotton.
Create irrigation channels from the river to the farmlands, then build a small dam at the channel entrance to control the influx of water.
Build the ironworking facility outside of the walls then knock down a section and expand the walls to contain the facility
Have our brightest minds begin researching into advanced mining equipment and techniques.
